119: Chapter 119 Tearing Open the Passage, the Remnants of the Asura
At the center of the teleportation array, golden Formation patterns lit up layer by layer.
Wang Pingan stood on the Formation platform, his Divine Thought connecting to the Divine Kingdom.
In the Martial Dao Holy City, twenty thousand frontline soldiers looked up simultaneously; Wang Shan gripped his crimson flame saber, and Wang Mu opened the wartime dispatch manual.
A new round of battle was about to begin.
Wang Pingan watched the spatial passage forming before him and raised his hand to press the mission coordinates.
The one hundred thousand square kilometer Asura race fragment was officially locked.
Teleportation Formation patterns lit up beneath Wang Pingan's feet, space twisted and overlapped, and the Grade A Sequence badge completed its final verification with the Asura fragment coordinates.
Three breaths passed, the teleportation hall faded away, and the pulling force of the Divine Kingdom passage sent his Divine Thought into a strange world.
A dark red sky pressed down over the wasteland, and the cracked earth stretched into the distance; between the crisscrossing fissures, congealed blood clots and broken weapons were visible everywhere.
The wind swept across the crimson plain, sand and soil laden with the stench of blood slammed against the passage entrance, and tattered military flags hung on the desolate mountains, their original patterns long since indistinguishable.
His Divine Thought spread outward; there were no cities within a hundred miles, only low fortresses built of bones and black stones scattered about.
This land once belonged to a Tier 3 Deity. Though the main god had fallen many years ago, the fragment's Law still operated underground, maintaining a broken order of slaughter.
Countless fluctuations of Qi and blood gathered in the depths of the wasteland, and chaotic footsteps crunched over gravel, pointing straight toward the Divine Kingdom passage along dozens of mountain paths.
The academy's military department had cleared the core of the fragment, but they had not slaughtered all the alien races. The Asura Remnants left behind had survived and multiplied to this day by relying on blood rivers and blood pools.
They waited for new prey, relying on hunting intruders to fight for flesh, weapons, and the blood Qi needed to Cultivate. There was absolutely no room for negotiation between the two sides.
On the black stone fortress closest to the passage, an Asura scout raised a bone horn, and the deep, resonant sound reverberated for a hundred miles across the wasteland.
The surrounding fortresses responded one after another, a vast amount of dust kicked up in the crimson valley, and tens of thousands of Asura Remnants rushed out of their hiding places.
These Asuras were a zhang tall, their crimson skin covered in battle patterns, and their door-sized blood blades were hung with dried scabs of blood.
The vanguard raised shields, the center held blades, and the rear dragged stone crossbows and siege hammers. Their charging Formation was well-organized, without a single chaotic roar.
Their military Formations advanced and retreated with discipline; these alien races still retained the war Legacy from the era of the Tier 3 Deity, and the academy's records were true.
Even without the command of a god, they could still divide military ranks based on Bloodline and mobilize through department leaders, their level of organization far surpassing ordinary alien remnants.
The foremost Asura legion had already crossed the mountain pass, their heavy footsteps cracking the ground, and their blood blades clashing against each other, forming a rhythm of war drums that suppressed the Divine Soul.
More Asuras detoured along the desolate mountains on the flanks, preparing to block both ends of the passage, while thousands of archers climbed the highlands, aiming their heavy crossbows at the entrance.
Before the armies had even engaged, the encirclement had already closed, and their coordination was as smooth as flowing water.
Wang Pingan controlled the pace of the passage opening, his Divine Thought reaching back along the Asura military Formation, searching for high-level auras deep within the army.
Over a dozen powerful Qi and blood auras were entrenched in the rear Formation; the surrounding Asuras voluntarily cleared a space, and no one dared to step within thirty zhang of those commanders.
Nine of the auras were approaching the Golden Core and Martial Ancestor level, while the remaining ones were still climbing, their roots of power digging straight into the broken Law underground.
These Asura commanders did not possess a complete high-level Foundation; they relied on blood pools and fragment Laws to maintain their Realm, and would fall if they left this place.
But within the Asura fragment, they could mobilize the earth's blood Qi, and the power they erupted with would be no weaker than ordinary Golden Core or Martial Ancestor Cultivators.
An Asura commander wearing a bone crown stepped onto a war chariot, pointed a blood spear forward, and barked a short command.
The vanguard accelerated, tens of thousands of Asuras raised heavy shields, formed into three sharp-cone military Formations, and charged straight at the spatial passage.
The stone crossbows in the rear were raised simultaneously, and grindstone-thick crossbow bolts were dragged into the crossbow slots by several Asuras, blood-colored Formation patterns lighting up section by section along the arrow shafts.
The first round of crossbow bolts flew over the army, striking toward the passage with a dull, wind-breaking sound. Before the arrowheads even arrived, the air wave had already sent gravel flying.
Wang Pingan raised his hand, and the Divine Kingdom entrance opened wide. Nine sets of Tier 2 defensive Formation diagrams operated first, and a layer of Formation curtain closed along the outside of the passage.
Hundreds of heavy crossbow bolts slammed into the Formation curtain, blood-colored Formation patterns constantly eroding the defensive line, and the debris from the shattered arrow shafts carpeted the area in front of the entrance.
The Formation curtain shook several times before stabilizing, and the Divine Kingdom border Formation towers took over, channeling the impact force into the eighty thousand square kilometer earth vein.
The bone horn sounded again, the stone crossbowmen reloaded their arrows, and the vanguard, taking advantage of the fluctuation in the Formation curtain, had already approached within five miles of the passage.
The entrance bore the pressure without issue, and Wang Pingan's Divine Thought descended upon the Martial Dao Holy City, a divine oracle sounding simultaneously in the minds of the twenty thousand frontline soldiers.
"The Asura Remnants have arrived; form up outside the passage. First, defend the entrance, then dismantle the enemy army."
As the oracle fell, Wang Shan drew his crimson flame saber, struck his shoulder armor heavily with the back of the blade, and strode into the Divine Kingdom passage.
The twenty thousand Xianwu Heavy Armored Legion followed closely behind, their heavy military boots stepping across the spatial Formation patterns, their second generation nether-bone xuan armor reflecting the dark light of the sky.
Three thousand shield bearers led the charge, dark iron heavy shields standing before them, the soul-cleansing bone patterns and Qi and blood conduction Formations on the shield faces shining in harmony.
Blade soldiers and spear soldiers were arrayed in the rear, the Formation Maintenance Team carried Formation Plates as they wove between them, and the Artillery Battalion set up heavy cannons on the inner side of the passage.
Wang Mu stepped onto a temporary Formation platform, the wartime dispatch manual suspended before him; the positions of the vanguard, Qi and blood consumption, and the status of the Formation Plates were all funneled into the manual.
The Asura vanguard saw the Human Race legion appear and accelerated their charge again, the giant shields at the very front of the sharp-cone Formation glowing with blinding blood light.
The distance between the two armies closed rapidly, and the Asura heavy crossbows flew over the heads of the vanguard, slamming one after another into the not-yet-fully-closed Xianwu army Formation.
Wang Mu slashed his command flag down, three hundred Spirit Gathering Formation Plates opened simultaneously, and Spiritual Qi poured back along the xuan armor Formation patterns into every heavy shield.
Wang Shan stood behind the shield Formation with his blade, his gaze crossing the battle line, locking onto the three Asura sharp-cones at the very front.
"Shield bearers, take your positions! Back rows, press your shoulders! Whoever dares to let the shield wall open a gap, you'll be carrying pulse-suppressing stones for ten years when we get back!"
Three thousand dark iron heavy shields slammed into the ground in unison, their edges locking together, and the back-row shield bearers pressed their shoulders and backs hard against the front row, ramming the military Formation into a thick iron wall.
The Immovable Wisdom King Army Formation unfurled, the three thousand shield bearers' Qi and blood connected, and the soul-cleansing bone patterns condensed the Battle Intent of twenty thousand men to the very front of the battle line.
The Asura vanguard did not slow down, hundreds of zhang-tall Asuras raised their blood blades high, using the momentum of their charge to slash at the shield wall.
The blood blades crashed down, a teeth-grinding sound of metal friction tearing through the wasteland. The Formation patterns on the shield faces lit up in large areas, and the Qi and blood impact was channeled backward layer by layer along the military Formation.
The ground beneath the front-row shield bearers cracked, many of them sinking half a chi into the soil with their knees, but not a single groan of pain came from within their armor.
The three Asura sharp-cones slammed into the shield wall, several hundred heavy shields at the front were forced back a few steps, but the entire defensive line remained seamless.
The Asura rear army continued to push, the alien races in the front row pressed tightly against the shield faces, unable to wield their blood blades, so they simply rammed against them with their shoulders and backs.
Wang Shan swept across the battle line, his crimson flame saber slashing forward. The long spears and battle blades hidden behind the shield wall struck out like vipers.
Thousands of long spears thrust out through the shield gaps, piercing through the Asuras' chests and abdomens. The blade soldiers followed closely behind, specializing in striking the sword-wielding arms and knees and legs.
The foremost Asuras fell in swathes, but the rear rows continued to push forward regardless. Corpses were caught between the shield wall and the military Formation, and blood poured back along the fissures in the ground.
An Asura centurion leaped up, stepping on the corpses of his kin, and slashed down at the shield bearer's head with both hands, the blood patterns on the blade connecting into a complete killing Formation.
Wang Shan did not move. A Martial Master in the shield Formation held his shield up horizontally, and the Qi and blood of the fifty armored soldiers behind him poured into his armor in unison.
The blood blade struck the shield face, and the rebound force sent the Asura centurion flipping into mid-air. Three long spears took the opportunity to pierce through his torso.
The corpse crashed back into the Asura military Formation, the alien offensive stalled for a moment, and the Xianwu shield wall took the opportunity to push forward three zhang.
Wang Mu adjusted the Spirit Gathering Formation Plate, splitting the frontal Spiritual Qi into two paths to stabilize the battle line that was encountering flank attacks.
The Asura legion that had detoured around the desolate mountains killed their way to both flanks, thousands of blood blades hacking at the corners of the military Formation, attempting to tear open a gap from the Formation nodes.
The Formation Maintenance Team braved the impact to frantically replace the Formation Plates, blade soldiers rotated and filled positions in groups of fifty, and not a single point on the entire line was lost.
A young maintenance soldier had just embedded a Formation Plate into the soil when an Asura battle axe crossed the shield edge, slashing straight at his shoulder and neck.
A veteran next to him raised his shield, knocking the battle axe off course. The young maintenance soldier didn't even look back, gripping the Formation Plate with both hands, and pressed the final spirit pattern into the earth vein.
The Formation node lit up again, and the flank shield wall closed. Three hundred blade soldiers marched forward in unison, slaughtering all the Asuras that had broken into the gap.
Wang Pingan sat high in the sky, his Divine Thought covering the battle line. The Foundation forged over two hundred years was fully revealed in every instance of filling positions and rotating.
Having experienced the poisonous lands of the Black Swamp, the exhaustion of the Green Abyss, and the Death Qi of the bones, and having endured the heavy pressure of Soul Power for years in the Shura Field.
Although the charge of tens of thousands of Asuras before him was fierce, it could not shake the military orders in the slightest, nor could it provoke any greed for merit or rash advancement.
The Asura vanguard charged continuously for half an hour, corpses piling up to the waist of the shield wall, and the three sharp-cone military Formations had their edge forcibly broken.
Wang Mu controlled the pace of the advance, his command flag directing the rotation of the shield bearers. The wounded withdrew along the internal passages of the military Formation, and the Medical Cultivator Camp immediately took over to check for hidden injuries.
Among the first batch of three hundred shield bearers who retreated, eighty-seven had suffered bone injuries, yet not a single one had dropped their weapon when withdrawing from the Formation.
The substitute shield bearers stepped into the bloody footprints of their comrades, raised their shields to fill the gaps, and the width of the entire battle line did not decrease in the slightest.
The bone horn in the Asura rear Formation changed its tune, the first wave of charging troops split to both sides, making way for the even thicker second military Formation behind.
Wang Mu perceived the change in the enemy Formation, his command flag pointing straight at the Artillery Battalion. The Cultivators guarding the heavy cannons unlocked the seals and calibrated the coordinates of the wasteland.
Wang Shan held his blade horizontally to suppress the eager vanguard, not allowing the legion to pursue, only pushing the battle line forward five zhang.
"We've already eaten the first piece of meat they sent over; the hard bones behind haven't arrived yet! Whoever dares to disrupt the Formation now, I'll deal with you first!"
Behind the Asura army, over a dozen commanders stood up in unison, their powerful Qi and blood kicking up dust, and a series of roars rippled across the crimson plain.
The first wave of the charge was thwarted, and the Asura commander in the distance let out a deafening roar. Wang Shan rubbed the hilt of his blade with his large palm, staring at those Golden Core-level prey, and grinned.
