98: Chapter 98 The Thunderous Fire Dragon Makes its Debut
Exclamations of surprise erupted along the city wall.
"My god! What is that?!"
"It's so fast! It won't make it in time, it's finished..."
"This beast sacrificed itself just to cover its teammates. Well done!"
"Wait, isn't that the one from the Rongrong Team?"
Many people recognized the Lava Salamander and let out sighs of regret.
Some looked toward the adjacent Green Wind and Earth battle groups, only to see the members of those groups wearing excited smiles. The leaders of both groups were making summoning gestures, but they were doing so very slowly, clearly having no intention of saving the Lava Salamander.
That mass of shadow was a giant eagle with a wingspan of over thirty meters. Its body was covered in greenish-gray feathers as sharp as blades. As it descended, its pair of curved, sharp talons looked like several giant hooks stabbing toward the Lava Salamander.
"It's over..."
The Doll Girl's body went limp, and she nearly collapsed to the ground.
She could already see the image of the Lava Salamander being torn to shreds in her mind.
Suddenly, the sky turned a faint shade of red.
The Doll Girl looked up to see a massive, scorching red meteorite falling from high altitude. Its speed was even faster than the giant eagle's, and as it fell, its volume expanded until it was as large as a mountain.
"What is that?!"
Many people stared at the sky, falling into a state of dazed shock.
The leaders of the Green Wind Group and the Earth Group were stronger and had sharper senses. They felt a massive threat from the meteorite and, without a second thought, summoned their respective beasts.
The Green Wind Group Leader's beast was a Green Wind Leopard. It had greenish-gray fur and was as large as a bull. Where it landed, the bricks and stones shattered, and fierce winds rose in all directions.
The Earth Group Leader's beast was a Di Yuan Python. Its entire body was grayish-white with a rocky texture. Though it was incredibly heavy, the city wall didn't suffer the slightest damage when it landed; instead, the wall seemed to become even more solid.
As soon as the two beasts appeared, they immediately landed outside the city. With a shake of their bodies, they both grew to about ten meters in size, drawing excited cheers from many rogue Beast Tamers.
However, the brows of the two leaders remained tightly furrowed.
"In Ningyang City, the only one capable of emitting Fire and Earth Elements is that dinosaur," the Earth Group Leader said in a heavy voice.
"But it should be dead... This meteorite is different from the previous Lava Balls," the Green Wind Group Leader murmured.
The grudge between the two and the Rongrong Group went back a long time. They knew Commander Rongrong's beast almost better than their own. Seeing this meteorite, she was the first person they thought of.
Looking at the Rongrong Group's beast that was about to be killed, the Green Wind Group Leader wavered for a moment. But that brief hesitation caused him to miss the opportunity to save the beast.
By now, the giant eagle had closed in on the Lava Salamander, and the meteorite had closed in on the giant eagle.
Inside the City Defense Bureau, some powerful individuals were prepared to act, but they suddenly stopped, choosing to watch and see what happened.
BOOM—
A massive explosion rang out.
The Flaming Meteorite struck the giant eagle. The impact of the diagonal descent sent the eagle crashing backward, its hook-like claws merely grazing the Lava Salamander's back as it passed.
"S-Saved?" The Doll Girl blinked, reacting to the sudden turn of events, and immediately shouted, "Quick! Get back here!"
The Lava Salamander had been scared witless by the close call. It didn't need her reminder; it turned tail and bolted.
As it ran, its back suddenly split open, spraying blood. It was a bloody mess, but the Lava Salamander didn't care about the pain; at this moment, it only wanted to run back to its master's side.
The Doll Girl gripped the city wall, her pretty face tense and her heart pounding. she didn't dare imagine what would have happened if that fireball had arrived a second later—even 0.1 seconds later, the Lava Salamander would have died right there.
Before the Lava Salamander could return, the giant eagle crawled out of the crater. Enraged, it turned its gaze back to the Lava Salamander, took flight abruptly, and dived toward it.
Sensing the movement behind it, the Lava Salamander was so terrified its soul nearly left its body. It wished it could grow a few extra legs.
Just then, red light reflected from the sky once more.
The giant eagle looked toward the sky and saw only seven tiny red dots. Then, the dots grew larger...
Those were seven Flaming Meteorites!
Screee!!!
The giant eagle's feathers stood on end, and it flapped its wings frantically to flee. But no matter where it flew, the Flaming Meteorites followed it.
Very quickly.
The first meteorite fell, striking the giant eagle and then exploding. A terrifying heatwave swept over the city wall, and the shockwave of the explosion scattered in all directions. People were knocked down, and beasts were overturned. The Lava Salamander was so close that it directly used the high heat to melt itself into the ground, avoiding the fate of being blown away.
Boom, boom, boom...
The second, the third... until the seventh meteorite fell.
The entire city wall shook. People and beasts were knocked over in a chaotic mess. It was unknown how much time passed before the vibrations subsided and the aftershocks dissipated. The air smelled of scorching, and every breath made one's throat feel dry.
People scrambled up from the ground and looked out. Two hundred meters away from the city, a scorching fireball was embedded in a giant crater. The giant eagle's wings were at the edge of the crater, twitching slightly.
"What incredible power!"
"Who on earth is it? Is there such a powerhouse in the city?"
People were beyond shocked.
Just then, someone shouted, "Look at the sky! It's coming!"
Everyone looked up.
A red figure spiraled down from high altitude. Long tail, four claws, dual wings, red scales...
Everyone saw it clearly. It was a giant flying dragon they had never seen before. There was vaguely a person on the dragon's back, and those with sharp eyes even spotted a fish.
Suddenly, a thunderous cheer erupted from the crowd: "It's the Commander! The Commander is here!"
The members of the Rongrong Group easily connected this brand-new creature and the powerful flames with their long-absent Commander.
The leaders of the Green Wind and Earth battle groups exchanged a glance, their expressions simultaneously becoming solemn.
"Did she really succeed?" the Earth Group Leader asked, filled with uncertainty and alarm.
The Green Wind Group Leader sighed. "I'm afraid... she did."
He knew that he had chosen the wrong side this time. Originally, his neutral stance had allowed the Green Wind Group to thrive and grow rapidly.
But he had been too impatient. Thinking the Rongrong Group was doomed, he had wanted to use this beast tide to reposition himself, even standing idly by when the Rongrong Group was in danger.
Now it seemed he had made a wrong move.
The Sky-Shattering Fire Dragon descended from the sky. Zhang Erniu, carrying the Golden Scale Bubble Fish, landed on the city wall. The members of the Rongrong Group immediately swarmed around her.
"Commander!"
"Commander, the evolution really was a success!"
"Waaaah... the Lava Salamander almost died."
"Congratulations, Commander!"
Everyone chattered away incessantly. Some also sized up the Golden Scale Bubble Fish, curious about where this little thing had come from.
It looked... quite delicious.
With the death of the giant eagle and the dissipation of the shockwaves, the terrified and fleeing monsters began to reorganize, approaching the city wall once more. Within the rolling thick smoke in the distance, several massive figures flickered in and out of view.
Several powerful auras mingled together as they approached the wall. The Green Wind Leopard let out a cautious low growl, while the Di Yuan Python flicked its tail and reared up half its body.
The Sky-Shattering Fire Dragon landed in front of them, flapping its wings and shaking its body. Instantly, wild winds rose, and sand and stones flew everywhere.
"ROAR—"
A deep, powerful roar echoed in all directions. Compared to the Sky-Shattering Fire Dragon, the Green Wind Leopard and the Di Yuan Python looked like mere underlings.
"Boss, what do we do next?" the Doll Girl asked.
The other members of the Rongrong Group were rubbing their hands together, eager for a big fight.
Zhang Erniu pointed at the Golden Scale Bubble Fish and said to everyone, "Kill the monsters, seize the demon cores, and give all the demon cores to it to eat."
"Huh?"
Everyone was stunned.
The Golden Scale Bubble Fish didn't understand. Being watched by so many people, it just made gurgling Bubble sounds.
Hmm?
How did I get here?
Where's Master?
Where did he go?
