185: Red Flame Dragon
It wasn't just Lin Chen who felt shocked; some of the classmates who had woken up felt the same way.
Cities also had walls, but they were nowhere near this tall or imposing. Even the walls of the Imperial Capital and the Demon Capital, known as centers of prosperity, barely reached a hundred meters.
But here, a hundred-meter-tall steel wall was only guarding the teleportation square. How immense must the actual city be?
"Roar~~~". A deafening beast roar sounded, and everyone involuntarily looked toward the direction of the gate.
They saw a massive red dragon, over ten meters long, fly in from outside, hovering above their heads and letting out a roar toward the crowd.
A scorching aura surged across the entire teleportation square, but aside from this group of New Students, no one seemed afraid.
He even heard a veteran soldier yelling upwards, telling the creature to quiet down and not make too much of a fuss.
"Is that? A Crimson Flame Fire Dragon!" Lin Chen's pupils constricted. He immediately recognized this Spirit Beast; it was a truly rare Dragon-type Spirit Beast, belonging to the Fire Dragon species.
Standing atop the Crimson Flame Fire Dragon was a figure. They were too far away to see clearly, but a loud, booming voice could be heard.
"All New Students participating in Military Training, stand up immediately and follow me to the training grounds."
"Those who have not yet woken up shall be carried by their classmates. If anyone fails to arrive at the training grounds on time, 10 points of military merit will be deducted from every student in that class!"
As soon as these words were spoken, the expressions of everyone present changed instantly. Someone spoke up, intending to refute, but they were met with a deafening dragon roar.
"I am not negotiating with you. This is a military order! The moment you stepped onto the teleportation array, your Military Training began! Everyone, form ranks and move out!"
The officer shouted, then ignored the bewildered crowd, directly steering the Crimson Flame Fire Dragon and flying away.
Some quick-witted students hurriedly hoisted their classmates onto their backs and chased after them.
"Hurry! Bring everyone along, don't miss anyone! If you can't carry them, summon your Spirit Beasts!" Lin Chen and the others reacted immediately, calling out to their surrounding classmates.
Everyone in Cultivation Class One was a Breeder, unskilled in combat. There were still more than a dozen people who hadn't woken up yet, not to mention those who had just woken up and were still dazed.
Lin Chen couldn't be bothered to waste words on these people. He immediately instructed others to summon their Spirit Beasts to carry them, then chased after the main group ahead.
"Lin Chen, what's going on? What just happened?" Du Feiyu followed Lin Chen, clutching his head, looking completely bewildered.
He had just woken up and hadn't even remembered who he was before he was nearly roared unconscious again by the Crimson Flame Fire Dragon overhead.
"That must be the Military Training instructor, telling us to gather! Hurry up, we don't want to lose military merit before Military Training even begins!"
Lin Chen said helplessly, pulling him forward and running.
Shen Congwen, who was beside them, even summoned his Active Ape. The Active Ape carried two classmates, one in each hand, following them, while Shen Congwen himself carried a Girl on his back.
"Is everyone here? Don't leave anyone behind! Everyone will lose military merit if we do!" Zhang Qiang's shout came from not far away.
Teacher Xu hadn't appointed a class monitor, saying they would wait until they returned from Military Training, but it seemed this wasn't a wise decision right now.
Since Cultivation Class One lacked coordination and management, things inevitably seemed chaotic. Lin Chen shook his head upon hearing Zhang Qiang's shout; such vague instructions were useless.
Thinking of this, Lin Chen slowed his pace and shouted to the people around him:
"Everyone in Cultivation Class One listen up! Dorm leaders, start counting your people to see if anyone is missing!"
Hearing him, the others immediately had a direction for action. The dorm leaders took the lead, checking whether the members of their respective dorms were present.
They were all New Students who had just met, many having only seen each other once the night before. Asking him to count them would be impossible; the dorm leaders were much more familiar with their members.
Soon, reports confirmed whether the occupants of each dorm were present. Lin Chen vaguely remembered the dorm numbers for the boys and Girls and confirmed no one was missing, but two Girls from Dorm 402 had failed to follow the group.
"The rest of you keep moving forward. Shen Congwen, come with me to find them. Du Feiyu, you carry Yi Yang!"
Lin Chen immediately said this, instructing Shen Congwen to hand the Girl on his back to someone else. The two of them ran against the flow of traffic, back toward where they had come from.
"Lin Chen, we won't fall behind, will we?" Shen Congwen looked at the surging crowd and asked nervously.
"Don't worry. That instructor only said to arrive on time, but he didn't specify exactly how long 'on time' is. We just need to arrive at the Military Training location along with the main group!" Lin Chen explained.
This trip was clearly a test of their adaptability, obedience, and teamwork. If the time limit were truly that strict, none of these New Students would likely pass.
Hearing Lin Chen's explanation, Shen Congwen relaxed. As the two ran back, they realized that the Psychic-type Spirit Beasts hadn't just carelessly dropped them onto the square.
Everyone had been deliberately placed along the sides of the road, which prevented the anticipated stampede as people ran and walked.
"Chirp~~~". The call of Morning Dew came from the sky. They had found the two Girls. Lin Chen immediately pulled Shen Congwen and hurried over.
"You're awake?" Seeing the two Girls sitting by the roadside clutching their heads, Lin Chen and Shen Congwen looked delighted.
"You?" One of them raised her head, looking at them with confusion.
"We'll explain on the way. Right now, we have to get to the gathering point. If we're late, the entire class will be punished!" Shen Congwen said, pulling the two Girls up from the ground.
"Hey!" The dizzy Girl wanted to curse, but she saw Shen Congwen immediately hoist the still-groggy Girl onto his back.
"She's yours, let's go quickly!" Shen Congwen finished, then ran forward with the Girl on his back.
Lin Chen shook his head helplessly. He wasn't as bold as Shen Congwen, so he patted the Girl beside him.
"Let's go first! I'll explain on the way!"
"Oh, oh!"
The Girl started running alongside Lin Chen. Only then did she notice the stream of people around her were all New Students just like them, and they were running toward the distant square gate.
Seeing the look of surprise on her face, Lin Chen finally explained what had happened earlier. After hearing it, the Girl's face flushed slightly.
She hadn't expected her physical fitness to be so poor that she had been unconscious for so long. She even needed her classmates to come back and retrieve her.
But soon, she realized that she had actually been abandoned by her roommates? Thinking of how close they had been, like best friends, for the past few days, she immediately felt a surge of anger.
"What's wrong?" Lin Chen looked at the Girl beside him, his expression puzzled.
Why was she shy just a moment ago, but now suddenly full of resentment? He hadn't done anything, had he?
These Girls really are hard to figure out!
