5: Chapter 5: Fire in the Hole!
Outside the hundred-meter-tall steel walls of Magic City Base City, the land was barren. The Professionals coming and going were all stained with the thick scent of blood.
There were also many powerful Professionals dragging the corpses of large monsters slowly across the ground.
Lu Yuan stood at the city gate, watching this scene with some curiosity. For the first time in over a decade, he was stepping into the wild in this manner.
Lu Yuan knew very well that the most important thing right now was to level up. Summon more Magic Pets, and choose more Hextech Runes.
However, he definitely couldn't level up all by himself.
"Sister Bai Zhi, are you there?"
With this thought in mind, Lu Yuan called out softly into the air. Shortly after, a graceful figure approached from the distance.
The person was about twenty-five or twenty-six years old, wearing a white qipao, with a slender waist and a curvaceous figure. Her snow-white long hair draped over her shoulders, and her temperament was cold and mysterious.
Bai Zhi, Level 39! A Summoner! Her talent was extremely high; she would be considered a top-tier genius in any faction.
Yet City Lord Lu Feng had her protect Lu Yuan. His mother and grandfather had also each arranged a guardian for Lu Yuan, and they were all even more powerful than Bai Zhi. From this, one could tell just how doted upon Lu Yuan was.
Bai Zhi was also followed by four powerful Professionals.
"Sister Bai Zhi, I need an area to level up. Do you have any recommendations?" Lu Yuan asked.
Bai Zhi pondered for a moment and said, "Young Master, there are three major beginner leveling areas outside the city: the Spider Cave, the Twisted Jungle, and the Verdant Grasslands. Which area would you like to go to?"
"Which one levels up the fastest?"
Bai Zhi's willow-leaf eyebrows furrowed slightly. "The Spider Cave, but it is also the most dangerous."
The Slime was the lowest-level Magic Pet, with attack power nearly equal to zero. Let alone the Spider Cave, it probably couldn't even defeat the monsters in the Verdant Grasslands.
"Don't worry, my Slime is very powerful." Lu Yuan was firm.
The Slime cried. 'Master, please don't drag me into your bragging. I'm clearly done for! Spiders are the natural enemy of Slimes; believe me, if we encounter one, I'll die on the spot. Master, you don't want to lose your cute Slime, do you?'
Bai Zhi did not approve of Lu Yuan's choice either. The monsters in the Spider Cave did indeed offer the highest experience points, but the beginner Professionals of Magic City had long since marked this place as a restricted zone. Because even a powerful Legendary class would find it very strenuous to kill those spider monsters. However, rookie Professionals were prone to making such erroneous judgments. That was exactly why she existed.
To be honest, Bai Zhi hadn't expected the Young Master to be so keen on grinding monsters to level up after summoning a 'Slime' Magic Pet. Unfortunately... no matter how hard the Young Master tried, he couldn't change the weakness of the Slime.
Bai Zhi waved her hand, and the four powerful Professionals hidden in the crowd behind her gathered around.
Half an hour later, Bai Zhi brought Lu Yuan to the entrance of the Spider Cave. The entrance was pitch black and deep; one could vaguely hear the sound of spiders crawling inside, and the air was filled with a damp, fishy stench that was heart-palpitating.
The four elite Professionals got off the vehicle first and quickly advanced in a defensive formation. Bai Zhi summoned a Griffin Magic Pet with blue feathers to protect Lu Yuan by his side. It was magnificent and imposing, and the Slime was scared to tears immediately.
"Master, did you see that? This is what a real combat-type Magic Pet looks like! I'm just an accessory."
Lu Yuan slapped it on the head. "Shut up. In a moment, you will know just how powerful you are." Slime: ...
Bai Zhi had already made a plan. "Young Master, later, the four of them will clear the path in front, beat the monsters encountered to low health, and let you finish them off. I will protect you closely while also imparting my Summoner insights to you."
Lu Yuan's eyes lit up, and a satisfied smile appeared on his face. "Sister Bai Zhi is still the most thoughtful; I'll listen to you then." Was there anything more satisfying than having experience fed directly into one's mouth?
"Alright, let's go in. Stay alert." As soon as Bai Zhi finished speaking, swish—in the darkness, a pair of scarlet eyes suddenly lit up, and then a spider larger than a washbasin pounced over. [Dark Spider] [Level: LV2]
"Attack." Bai Zhi gave the order. The Earth-type Mage immediately raised his hand, and several stone spikes instantly rose from the ground, precisely binding the Dark Spider's legs and firmly restraining it in place.
Immediately after, a Warrior cautiously slashed at the spider's shell. Bang! -235! The Dark Spider slammed heavily onto the ground, its HP dropping by more than half instantly.
"Young Master, now you can have the Slime go up and finish it off. Remember, when a Summoner fights, you must first summon your Magic Pet to take position, and you must stand in an absolutely safe area to avoid injury." Bai Zhi reminded him, feeling a bit worried at the same time. Even if this Dark Spider was already heavily injured, the Slime probably couldn't kill it, right?
Lu Yuan, however, was not worried at all. He calmly walked over, tore off a small piece of the light-blue body from the Slime, and threw it directly at the Dark Spider. ???!!!
"Young Master, what are you..." Bai Zhi and the other four Professionals were stunned. They had absolutely no idea what kind of move this was.
The restrained Dark Spider was also confused, looking in disbelief at the food delivered right in front of its face. Is this human stupid? Seeing that it was injured, he specifically brought it something to eat.
The Dark Spider's sharp mouthparts snapped open, instantly tearing that piece of Slime to shreds. Lu Yuan snapped his fingers. "Fire in the hole!"
Before the words had even faded, boom—! A violent explosion rang out, engulfing the entire Dark Spider. -564! A damage number floated up slowly. The Dark Spider, which was already heavily injured, was blown to pieces, flesh and blood flying everywhere. Instant kill!
[Ding! Killed Level 2 Dark Spider, gained +3 EXP!]
Bai Zhi froze in place, her eyes widened to their limit. This, how is this possible? What happened? What skill was that explosion just now, and how did the Dark Spider die? And the damage was way too high, wasn't it? 564! A Level 1 Professional's damage is usually around 10 points, right? But this Slime caused 564 damage directly? How is that possible? This is too crazy! Not to mention this method of cutting off a piece of one's own Magic Pet and throwing it out to Self-destruct? What kind of god-tier move is this?
Even the involved party, the 'Slime', was stunned. 'I, I killed that spider?' The next moment, its small eyes burst with great light. It puffed up its body, put its hands on its hips, and laughed arrogantly. 'So I'm this powerful... Let's see you all look down on me now. Now you know how powerful I am. Master, do it again! I want to keep blowing things up, I'll blow all the monsters to death!'
The corners of Lu Yuan's mouth lifted slightly. When he blew up his old man earlier, he had been guessing. Was there a bug? Every piece of 'Slime' that Split off from the Slime's body could trigger the 'Dive Bombing' effect when it self-destructed. This bug would push the Slime to a height it didn't belong to!!
