13: Chapter 13 The Green Snake's Revenge
He spent a whole day leaving the scent of his own Demonic Qi across the entire mountain.
This was his mountain.
His. Own. Mountain!
In this world, he could be considered a respectable snake with property and a job.
He wished he could use his tail to place a top hat on his head and tie a necktie around his seven-inch mark.
After Xu Qing finished smugly patrolling his mountain, visiting every Snake Cave once,
he wanted these slack-off snakes, who were still sleeping during the day, to see their respectable snake Senior.
"Ahem, revenge. Revenge is a serious matter."
Xu Qing took a glance at his mountain and dove into the river.
Unlike the last time he fled downstream,
this time he was heading upstream for revenge.
In high spirits, Xu Qing wished he could open his snake mouth and shout, "Thirty years on the east bank, thirty years on the west bank; do not look down on a poor Green Snake!"
The speed of swimming upstream was a bit slower.
Xu Qing swam for a long time before reaching the mountain where the Toad Spirit lived.
Xu Qing activated Concealment and approached the mountain.
Although he wasn't afraid of the Toad Spirit, it would be bad if the Toad Spirit led a whole mountain of Yao to swarm and attack him.
After all, if you can win with a group, why fight one-on-one?
Xu Qing decided to first feign weakness to lure the Toad Spirit out and then kill it.
No sooner said than done.
A short while later.
A green snake was rushing down the mountain with a giant Toad Spirit right behind it.
The Toad Spirit was croaking loudly in anger.
That Green Skin Snake had gone too far, provoking it time and time again.
Even if Uncle Toad could endure it, Aunt Toad could not!
"The plan is a total success!"
Xu Qing realized that this toad might be a hot-headed fellow.
After all, the memory of it chasing him across a dozen mountains last time was still fresh.
The two of them, one in front and one behind, soon reached the foot of the mountain.
Xu Qing quickly dove into the water.
Seeing Xu Qing trying to pull the same trick again, the Toad Spirit's warts trembled with rage.
It also dove into the water quickly; this time, no matter what, it was going to slaughter this Green Skin Snake.
Both were incredibly fast, and they soon passed three mountains.
Xu Qing saw that the distance was about right; no other Yao should be able to catch up now.
He stopped, using his Water Control skill to float on the surface, and turned to face the toad not far away.
Seeing the Green Skin Snake stop, the toad grew wary and also stopped, staring at Xu Qing from a short distance.
"Now is the moment of your downfall, Toad Spirit!"
Xu Qing stared at the Toad Spirit, his round pupils elongating into vertical slits as he locked his gaze on it.
[Ding! Proficiency requirements met.]
[Divine Ability: Insight LV3 upgraded to Insight LV4.]
[Yao Beast] Water Toad
[Dao Cultivation] 98 Years
[Skills] Water Control LV2, Toad Venom LV3, Poison Gas LV3, Tongue Whip LV3, Detection LV1, Leap LV2, Self-Healing LV1
[Divine Ability] Great Strength LV2
"The Divine Ability Insight has leveled up!"
Xu Qing was somewhat excited; his effort in using Insight on every Yao on his mountain to accumulate proficiency hadn't been in vain.
Insight LV3 could only see Dao Cultivation, but not skills.
Seeing the Toad Spirit's skills clearly, Xu Qing decided to take the initiative.
"Super Wind Blade!"
With a flick of his tail, a massive Wind Blade split the water's surface and slashed toward the Toad Spirit.
The Toad Spirit hopped lightly on the water, and a whirlpool appeared to meet the Wind Blade.
The two collided and both dissipated.
The Toad Spirit took the opportunity to lash out its long tongue, which shot forward like a bullet.
A green light glowed deep within the pupil of Xu Qing's left eye.
With a 'puchi' sound, the tongue stopped in mid-air as if it had hit a wall.
Xu Qing seized the chance to spit out a blast of Green Flame.
The Green Flame enveloped the Toad Spirit's tongue, spreading toward the root and threatening the toad's body.
Startled, the toad ignored the pain in its tongue and dove underwater, pulling its tongue back into the river.
Demonic Fire LV3 couldn't burn underwater yet; it merely sizzled and went out.
Both had Water Control skills, so Xu Qing couldn't use Water Control to gain an advantage over this toad.
He let out a hiss and dove into the water, closing in on the toad.
Then, the toad actually opened its mouth and spat out ink-black Poison Gas. The gas quickly saturated the surrounding river water, and within moments, a section of the river turned black.
"Holy crap!"
"Where's your sense of fair play?!"
Xu Qing swam desperately toward the surface; the pungent smell of the surrounding poison was almost enough to knock him out.
Xu Qing didn't dare underestimate the toad's LV3 Poison Gas and tried his best to swim away.
However, the toad resolutely lashed out its tongue, wrapping it around his slender waist and pulling him back.
"Wind Blade!"
Xu Qing immediately used a Wind Blade to sever the toad's tongue.
But the toad had already pulled him back a distance, and the foul-smelling poisonous water submerged him.
I'm going to be poisoned to death! I'm going to be poisoned to death!!
His head soon felt dizzy.
But...
Aside from his scales hurting a bit, it seemed... not that serious?
He could hold out for a while. Had he overestimated the Toad Spirit?
Could it be that the Spider Spirit's toxin from last time had increased his hidden poison resistance?
He hoped the System could display his resistances.
"Croak! Croak!"
Seeing its usually infallible Poison Gas fail, the Toad Spirit grew a bit panicked.
Besides poison and Water Control, its only other attack was its tongue.
Now the poison was useless, Water Control was useless, and its tongue had even been partially cut off.
How was it supposed to fight?
Run, it had to run.
Xu Qing wasn't about to give this toad a chance to escape. He lunged and coiled around it, tightening his grip loop by loop.
He felt humiliated.
He had finally come for revenge, only to almost fail miserably.
It was such a disgrace to the snake race.
He kept tightening his body, constricting deep into the toad's flesh.
Indeed, Wind Blades may come and go, but Constriction is forever.
The toad struggled violently at first, but its movements soon weakened.
After all, under the crushing force of Great Strength LV3, its Great Strength LV2 simply wasn't enough.
[Ding! Toad Spirit killed.]
[Dao Cultivation +10, evolution points +10]
[Obtained: Toad Poison Core]
[Toad Poison Core]: The toxin core of a Toad Spirit. After Fusion, there is a chance to comprehend the skill Poison Gas LV1.
[Proficiency requirements met.]
[Water Control LV1 upgraded to Water Control LV2.]
"Poison Gas LV1!"
Xu Qing was quite excited.
He had been coveting a poison skill for a long time.
As for the upgrade to his Water Control skill, while he was happy, he really wanted to play with poison!
He could still remember the fear of being dominated by the spider's venom.
Xu Qing ignored the toad's corpse and quickly swam away from the area contaminated by the toxin.
After all, toad really wasn't his thing.
"Time to find a place to see if I can get that Poison Gas skill."
Diving into a hollow tree, he coiled up and began to fuse the Poison Core.
A dark green, diamond-shaped crystal appeared before him.
Wisps of dark green vapor drifted from the crystal and merged into his body.
[Ding! Obtained skill: Snake Venom LV1.]
[Snake Venom LV1]: When triggered, it can cause a stun effect.
[Ding! Sharp Teeth LV2 upgraded to Poison Fangs LV2.]
[Poison Fangs LV2]: Can inject [Snake Venom LV1].
[Ding! Obtained skill: Poison Gas LV1.]
[Poison Gas LV1]: Can release a small area of Poison Gas formed by [Snake Venom LV1].
Xu Qing stared at the panel with glowing eyes, incredibly excited.
He had finally obtained the poison skills he had been dreaming of.
As long as he leveled up Snake Venom, in the future, wouldn't he be able to poison a whole crowd just by waving his tail?
Then evolution points, Dao Cultivation, and System rewards would all come pouring in.
He wouldn't even have to lift a finger.
"Jie jie jie!"
The tree hollow was filled with joyful laughter.
