71: A marriage between relatives
Li Cheng had left, and He Yongliang's anger flared up.
He could not accept it; the hope of securing the project from Li Cheng had been directly shattered right before his eyes!
This was his best opportunity to enter the ranks of the wealthy!
"How on earth did you offend President Chen?"
He walked up to He Ting and roared, his anger uncontrollable.
"I didn't know he was the President Chen of the group..."
He Ting said, sounding somewhat aggrieved.
"If you didn't know, couldn't you have asked? You ruined everything, do you understand?"
He Yongliang grew even more furious.
He Ting was left with her head spinning from the scolding.
At that moment, her spoiled temper flared up as well.
"Blaming me?"
"If it weren't for me, would you be able to live the life you have today?"
He Ting flung her hand away in agitation, her voice turning shrill.
In her eyes, the fact that their family had reached this point was entirely due to her contributions and her efforts!
As long as she could satisfy her desires and her vanity, He Ting could ignore the mockery from others behind her back.
On the contrary, those voices would instead serve as nourishment for her desires, making her feel even more satisfied.
But being scolded by He Yongliang at this moment was something she truly could not tolerate!
As a father, enjoying everything brought about by his daughter selling herself for glory, did he even have the right to scold her?
"If you're so capable, why don't you go accompany those old men yourself?"
He Ting's voice reached a piercing volume, fueled by irrational anger.
This caused the bank employees who were about to finish their shifts to poke their heads out, looking on with expressions of eager gossip.
He Yongliang felt the blood rush to his head from being yelled at.
His old face flushed crimson, yet he was unable to retort.
As a father, he was indeed a complete failure.
But now was not the time to dwell on such old scores; he had to get to the bottom of the matter.
He softened his expression slightly, noticing the staff in the bank who were staring in their direction.
"Let's go back first!"
"We'll talk when we get home!"
He said in a low voice, then pulled He Ting toward the car.
On the way home, the atmosphere inside the car was stiflingly silent.
He Yongliang drove, his mind racing to come up with a strategy.
Ten minutes later, he suddenly spoke up.
"Send a message to President Li right now."
"What should I say?"
"Just talk to him about some bank business."
He Ting nodded, then pulled out her phone and sent a message to Li Cheng.
"President Li, besides funds, would you like to learn more about trusts and the like?"
After pressing the send button, He Ting felt a bit nervous.
After the message was sent, He Ting breathed a sigh of relief when she didn't see a red exclamation mark.
"Thank goodness, I haven't been blocked..."
If she had been blocked by Li Cheng, she truly would have been beyond tears.
However, after ten minutes passed, Li Cheng still hadn't replied.
This was well within He Yongliang's expectations.
But the fact that Li Cheng hadn't blocked He Ting meant that things hadn't completely reached an impasse, and there was still a chance for a turnaround...
Just as a glimmer of hope welled up in He Yongliang's heart, He Ting, sitting beside him, suddenly let out a cry of alarm.
"What's wrong?"
He Yongliang turned his head to look at her, feeling somewhat nervous.
He saw that on He Ting's delicate face, an extremely ugly expression had emerged.
"President Li... he has redeemed the deposits transferred to my account, as well as a portion of the funds."
Looking at the operation time displayed on the client manager's backend, it was immediately after she had sent the message to Li Cheng that he had executed the operations.
He Ting was on the verge of a breakdown!
If it weren't for the fact that a portion of the funds were in a lock-up period and couldn't be redeemed, she was certain Li Cheng would have cashed them all out without hesitation.
This was even more painful than being blocked!
He Yongliang's heart also sank, and his expression became incredibly heavy.
The attitude revealed by Li Cheng's actions was clear: he was completely severing ties with them!
"President Li hasn't blocked you, which means there's still a glimmer of hope..."
He Yongliang comforted himself, while also trying to comfort He Ting.
However, no sooner had he finished speaking than He Ting, sitting beside him, said with a deathly pale complexion.
"I've already been blocked..."
He Yongliang: ...
He Ting felt deep regret.
Why did she have to be so stubborn and insist on sending that message to test Li Cheng?
If she hadn't sent the message, she wouldn't have seen that red exclamation mark; at the very least, she could have kept lying to herself...
Before long, the two arrived back home.
He Lan, who was home alone, was somewhat surprised to see them return.
"Weren't you accompanying President Li for dinner today to confirm the project?"
No sooner had she finished speaking than she noticed that her husband's face was terrifyingly dark, and her daughter wore an expression of utter despair.
"What's wrong?"
"Did the project fall through?"
He Yongliang did not answer; instead, he stared at He Ting and began to question her.
"First, tell me how you met that President Chen, and how you came to have a grudge against him?"
He Yongliang knew very well that the reason Li Cheng was being so tight-lipped was ultimately because of that President Chen.
As long as they could smooth things over with President Chen, all their problems would be solved!
He Ting opened her mouth, but for a moment, found it difficult to speak.
After glancing at her mother, she took a deep breath and slowly recounted how she had met Chen Qiu.
He Yongliang had prepared himself, but upon hearing He Ting's account, his eyes still widened in utter shock.
"You went on a blind date with President Chen?"
"And you thought he was some loser pretending to be rich, so you mocked him?"
He Yongliang felt as though his brain was about to short-circuit.
"Then why did you take the initiative to go find him at noon..."
"I thought he had found out where I worked and had come to pester me. I was afraid that if President Li saw him, he'd be unhappy, so I thought I'd go over and chase him off with a scolding..."
In fact, President Li was unhappy when he saw it.
It just wasn't in the way He Ting had imagined...
He Yongliang's vision went black, and he felt his temples throbbing.
He had not expected the situation to be this absurd.
If... if only He Ting hadn't been so arrogant and domineering when she went on that blind date with Chen Qiu, the outcome would likely have been completely different!
Perhaps President Li would even be the one fawning over them!
"But how did you end up on a blind date with someone like President Chen?"
He Yongliang asked, puzzled.
He Ting looked toward her mother, He Lan.
He Lan, who was still completely lost, was dumbfounded by her daughter's gaze.
"When have I ever introduced you to such a big shot..."
"Mom, it was that Maternal Aunt who introduced him..."
"Huang Hui?"
He Lan froze, an expression of disbelief suddenly rising in her eyes.
"You're saying the person Huang Hui introduced you to on that blind date last time was President Li's direct superior?!"
As she spoke, He Lan felt her breath hitch, her expression dazed.
"Didn't you say the other party looked shabby..."
He Ting was filled with regret.
That was a truly wealthy family!
The opportunity she had chased her entire life had been foolishly squandered by her own hand!
"He Lan, Huang Hui is that cousin of yours, right?"
He Yongliang asked in a low voice.
"Yes... wait, when she introduced him, she said that Chen Qiu was her nephew, right?"
He Lan's eyes lit up; having suddenly remembered something, she quickly spoke up.
As soon as the words left her mouth, both He Yongliang and He Ting's expressions brightened.
If they were relatives, then things would be easy to handle!
After all, there was no deep-seated grudge between Chen Qiu and He Ting, just a verbal conflict.
Since Chen Qiu was Huang Hui's nephew, they could also claim a familial connection!
Moreover, Huang Hui had been so enthusiastic about playing matchmaker for Chen Qiu; their relationship must be excellent!
When the time came, they would have Huang Hui act as an intermediary to explain things and put in a good word; wouldn't that make everyone happy?
"Call Huang Hui, quickly!"
A glimmer of light returned to He Yongliang's eyes!
He Ting's face was also filled with anticipation.
She thought of Xu Jia, who had been standing beside Chen Qiu today.
Xu Jia was merely Chen Qiu's junior high classmate, yet she could make Bank Manager Feng show her such deference.
And she, she was now Chen Qiu's relative!
Once her Maternal Aunt stepped in and the two sides reconciled, who knew, they might even become even closer through marriage!
