Chapter 207 185: Golden Needle Hemostasis
Tong Guangsheng was lying on the ground motionless, and Shu Yuanhang was urgently treating his wounds. Tong Guangsheng probably fell from above by accident, and several wounds were bleeding. Due to the low platelet levels and coagulation defects in leukemia patients, this situation is feared most, as once bleeding starts, it's difficult to stop.Shu Yuanhang had an emergency kit with him, but it lacked hemostatic drugs, so he could only rely on compression to stop the bleeding. The urgent task was to stop the bleeding; if it couldn't be stopped, even if they successfully reached the foot of the mountain, the prospects would be grim. Shu Yuanhang pressed gauze against Tong Guangsheng's head, trying to stop the bleeding.Xu Chunliang saw that the bleeding didn't improve, and took out his needle pouch.
Shu Yuanhang looked at Xu Chunliang in surprise. Although he studied Western medicine, he had some understanding of Chinese medicine. He just didn't understand why Xu Chunliang would use acupuncture in such a situation. With the patient's condition so serious, did he really think acupuncture could solve the problem?
Xu Chunliang didn't care about his gaze; he couldn't just watch Tong Guangsheng bleed to death. Today, I'll let you see what genuine Chinese medical skills are.
Xu Chunliang drew out a filiform needle, first targeting the Shenmen.
The Shenmen acupoint is located on the Heart Sutra of the Hand Shaoyin, situated at the wrist, at the ulnar end of the line on the palm side of the wrist, in the depression on the radial side of the flexor carpi ulnaris tendon.
Shen means spirit, and men means gate. The qi and blood within the acupoint are the external transmission of the qi from within the heart meridian, with identical properties to the qi and blood of the heart meridian, serving as the mind's qi.
The qi and blood of the heart meridian are discharged to the body surface through this acupoint, creating an eruptive effect, hence it is also called Rui Zhong.
Xu Chunliang selected the position near the flexor carpi tendon, inserting the needle perpendicularly with a twisting method. The tip of the needle pierced the skin and immediately encountered elastic resistance, indicating it had reached the ligamentous layer. He swiftly penetrated the ligament layer, stimulating the palmar branch of the ulnar nerve.
During the needling procedure, he held the needle handle with the thumb and middle and index fingers of his right hand, rotating and twisting back and forth. He employed a technique of slow lifting and rapid insertion to enhance the draining effect, thus accelerating the discharge of qi and blood from the heart meridian. Once a large amount of qi and blood from the heart meridian is discharged, it will relieve the pressure on the blood vessels, helping to slow the outflow of blood.
After needling each Shenmen acupoint for one minute, he switched to the He Gu acupoint.
The He Gu acupoint, commonly known as the Tiger's Mouth, represents a cross-motion of qi and blood within, like autumn winds sweeping leaves. Belonging to the Hand Yangming Large Intestine Meridian, this acupoint is on the back of the hand, between the first and second metacarpal bones.
The filiform needle is directly inserted into He Gu. After a brief prick of pain, it quickly transitions to a sensation of soreness and distension, and then rapidly spreads upwards along the meridian to the elbow and shoulder regions. Acupuncture at He Gu is also a common treatment for nosebleeds, and, supplemented with acupuncture at the Taichong acupoint, can rapidly lower blood pressure.
Initially unconscious, Tong Guangsheng began showing reactions, and the bleeding from the head wound started to subside.
Xu Chunliang unfastened Tong Guangsheng's belt, lowered his pants, and finally chose to needle the Ji Men acupoint.
Ji refers to an earthen sieve, a vessel for transporting materials, and men means gateway. The operation and transformation of spleen-earth substances occur at this acupoint. The wind from the cuspate of moist clouds at the Blood Sea acupoint becomes a powerful force upon reaching the Ji Men, driving the spleen-earth substance to flow onward, carried out like goods by an earthen sieve.
The Ji Men acupoint is located on the inner thigh, on the line connecting the Blood Sea and Chongmen acupoints, including the Spleen Meridian of Foot Taiyin, the Yinwei Meridian, and the three paths of the Spleen Meridian of Foot Taiyin.
The purpose of Xu Chunliang's acupuncture at Ji Men is to halt the transformation of spleen-earth substances, stopping the wind from the Blood Sea acupoint—water covers earth, spleen-earth stabilizes, and bleeding naturally coagulates.
Xu Chunliang used a quick-insertion technique, penetrating vertically to break through the skin and fat layers, reaching the fascia lata, where obvious resistance was encountered. Slowed advancement and rapid withdrawal techniques were applied there. Acupuncture at Ji Men can treat various human dysentery symptoms, such as women's dysmenorrhea, functional uterine bleeding, men's nocturnal emissions, and also possesses emergency hemostatic functions.
At this point, the wounds on Tong Guangsheng's body had stopped bleeding. If Shu Yuanhang hadn't seen it with his own eyes, he wouldn't believe this guy stopped his father's bleeding with just a single thin needle. Compared to this, his own bandaging and compression hemostasis seemed utterly low-end.
Tong Guangsheng slowly opened his eyes: "I'm... okay..."
Xu Chunliang heard Mei Ru Xue's anxious cries for help; it seemed they still hadn't contacted anyone else. The rain was getting heavier.
Shu Yuanhang said, "We must get him to the hospital as soon as possible. His temperature is very high."
Xu Chunliang looked up at the cliff; it seemed the only way was to carry Tong Guangsheng up.
Shu Yuanhang said, "I'll carry him up."
Xu Chunliang glanced at Shu Yuanhang. Shu Yuanhang was probably under 1.75 meters tall, whereas Tong Guangsheng was a tall man at 1.82 meters. With Shu Yuanhang's build, it would be too strenuous.
Xu Chunliang said, "Let me do it. Do you have a rope?"
Shu Yuanhang nodded. He had just witnessed Xu Chunliang's rock-climbing skills, which were certainly no less than his own, and his strength was probably much greater, too.
Xu Chunliang suggested that he climb up first, then drop the rope down, and he could use a belt to bind Tong Guangsheng to himself.
Shu Yuanhang dismissed this plan. The cliff was fifteen meters high, and it was strenuous enough for one person to climb, let alone with someone on their back. He intended to climb up first, secure the rope tightly, and then help Xu Chunliang rescue his father together.
Xu Chunliang agreed to his plan.
Shu Yuanhang climbed the cliff barehanded, and Mei Ru Xue hurriedly came over when she saw him get up: "How's the situation?"
Shu Yuanhang nodded to her: "Let's get him up first, then we'll talk."
He found a sturdy tree, tied the rope securely, and then rappelled down to the bottom of the cliff.
Xu Chunliang hoisted Tong Guangsheng onto his back, weighing a solid 180 pounds, plus his clothes soaked by the autumn rain, totaling nearly 200 pounds. If it weren't for Xu Chunliang, others might not have been able to bring Tong Guangsheng up.
Shu Yuanhang was confident in Xu Chunliang's physical strength to handle it, so he tied his father onto Xu Chunliang's back. He advised Xu Chunliang that he would climb alongside, and if he felt his strength waning, he should definitely speak up.
Xu Chunliang smiled and said, "With the safety rope, there's no problem." Then he looked up at Mei Ru Xue and said, "Xiaoxue, I'm coming up!"
Mei Ru Xue paused, as if this was the first time he called her that. She bit her cherry lips and said, "Be careful!"
Xu Chunliang reached the edge of the cliff, and Shu Yuanhang handed him his gloves, "Put them on!"
Xu Chunliang nodded and put on the gloves. Shu Yuanhang climbed alongside him on the left, keeping in sync with him. He had no safety rope, and his palms were already bloodied from the rough rocks, with autumn rain seeping into the wounds, causing intense pain.
Halfway up, Tong Guangsheng opened his eyes, turned his neck, and saw his son not far away. His chapped lips moved as if to say something but ultimately remained silent.
Shu Yuanhang noticed his low spirits and shouted, "Stay strong, I still have questions for you!"
Tong Guangsheng pursed his lips and buried his face in Xu Chunliang's neck. Xu Chunliang felt two lines of warm tears flow across the back of his neck.
With Tong Guangsheng on his back, Xu Chunliang reached the top without incident, though his physical strength was greatly depleted.
Mei Ru Xue finally contacted other rescue personnel. Wang Jinwu arrived on the scene with over a dozen employees from Xianhong Farm. Upon seeing the state of Tong Guangsheng, Wang Jinwu could no longer contain his anger and punched Shu Yuanhang hard, "What have you done? He's your father!"
Shu Yuanhang was knocked down on the muddy ground by the punch. Mei Ru Xue stepped in to stop Wang Jinwu, "Now is not the time to assign blame. Let's get President Tong down the mountain first."
Zhang Haitao's team also arrived. They brought a stretcher, and together everyone got Tong Guangsheng onto it, deciding to take the north slope down the mountain since the south slope, while shorter, was steep and slippery, risking further accidents.
As everyone departed one by one, Xu Chunliang approached Shu Yuanhang, extended his hand to him. Shu Yuanhang wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with his left hand, extended his right hand to grasp Xu Chunliang's, and, with his help, got up and swiftly caught up with the team ahead.
Mei Ru Xue patted Xu Chunliang on the shoulder, "Shall we go too?"
Xu Chunliang pointed to the way they came. They chose to descend from the south slope. By the time Xu Chunliang and Mei Ru Xue returned to the hospital, Tong Guangsheng had not yet been brought in. Xu Chunliang received a call from Wang Jinwu, informing him they decided to send Tong Guangsheng to Dongzhou overnight, asking Xu Chunliang to help contact Changxing Hospital.
Xu Chunliang thought it over and decided to accompany them, after all, Tong Guangsheng was kind to him and was Gao Xinhua's old comrade.
Mei Ru Xue agreed with his decision, asking Xu Chunliang to keep her updated.
Xu Chunliang called Gao Xinhua and explained Tong Guangsheng's situation. Gao Xinhua immediately contacted the Hematology Department's head, Yao Zemin.
They arrived at Changxing Hospital at 11:30 PM, where Gao Xinhua was waiting. Tong Guangsheng had regained consciousness by then.
When Yao Zemin, the Hematology Department head, was about to examine Tong Guangsheng, Shu Yuanhang handed over a treatment plan he'd drafted on the way, "Please follow this plan."
Yao Zemin was unsure who this young man was, thinking it arrogant for someone so young to give him treatment advice.
Shu Yuanhang understood his doubts about his abilities, calmly saying, "This plan was provided by Asia's top hematology expert, and the patient is my father."
Yao Zemin glanced over the plan, recognizing its legitimacy at a glance, saying he would carefully consider it.
Alone, Shu Yuanhang went to the vending machine in the hallway to figure out how to make a purchase.
Xu Chunliang approached, scanning to buy two bottles of water, handing one to Shu Yuanhang.
Shu Yuanhang accepted the bottle, "Thanks!"
Xu Chunliang noticed his hands were covered in scars, "Go to the emergency room for some treatment, I heard you're a pretty good thoracic surgeon, reliant on these hands for work."
Shu Yuanhang twisted open the bottle and drank half of it in one go, "Who told you that?"
Xu Chunliang replied, "If you don't want people to know, don't do it."
Shu Yuanhang revealed a slight smile, "Makes a bit of sense."
