359: Chapter 359 Hundred Herbs City, Hundred Knowledge Pavilion
After the light of the teleportation array dissipated, Chu Sheng and Jiuer landed on a strange piece of land.
All around was an open plain, and in the distance, the silhouette of a city appeared faintly in the twilight.
Chu Sheng looked up at the sky, then glanced around at the surrounding environment, quickly running through the current situation in his mind.
His current identity was too sensitive.
The attention from Wendao Palace, the pursuit from Heavenly Sword Pavilion, the mark from the Wanfo Sect, and the aftershocks from the old Dragon's side.
If he appeared in a Human Race city in the Central Region in his true form, he would likely be recognized within three days.
He thought for a moment, then turned to look at Jiuer, his tone carrying a hint of negotiation: "Your clothes are loose, may I hide inside?"
Jiuer glanced at him, her gaze lingering on him for a breath, as if confirming whether he was serious.
Chu Sheng had already taken a step ahead and cast a Shrinking Technique, his figure shrinking by a size, his entire aura restrained to the extreme, like an inconspicuous stone.
Then he turned sideways and nimbly slipped into Jiuer's wide robe, pressing against her side.
It was soft and thick, carrying a faint fragrance, warm and hot.
Jiuer looked down at him, as if wanting to say something, but didn't say it aloud.
A moment later, she just sighed softly, her tone carrying a hint of helplessness: "I really can't do anything about you."
She didn't shake him out, nor did she adjust her posture, simply letting him stay pressed against her as she continued walking towards the city.
Chu Sheng pressed against Jiuer's waist, able to feel the subtle movements as she walked.
He stayed quietly, not speaking much, nor moving.
As she walked, Jiuer sorted through the current situation in her mind.
She had now realized that revenge was not something that could be accomplished in a day.
The Snake King, the old Dragon, and those old accounts of the Fox Clan—each one required sufficient strength to settle.
She could no longer be like before, pinning all her hopes on a single adventure.
She also knew clearly that she was no longer that helpless person without support.
Thinking of Chu Sheng still pressed inside her robe, her footsteps paused slightly, then returned to their normal rhythm, as if unaffected at all.
The city gate was not far ahead, and the plaque above the gate was inscribed with three large characters—Baicao City.
There were guards at the city gate checking people entering and exiting, but it wasn't strict; most were just given a glance and let through.
Jiuer walked through the city gate with a normal expression, and the guard's gaze lingered on her face for a moment before moving away.
Chu Sheng felt her enter the city and relaxed his vigilance slightly, but still did not come out of the robe.
The streets inside the city were much livelier than outside; shops lined both sides, and lanterns had already been lit, illuminating the entire street.
Jiuer was not in a hurry to find a place to stay, but instead observed the surrounding environment first.
She saw a fairly large restaurant on the street corner, a three-story pavilion with a gold-leaf sign hanging at the entrance, and the guests coming and going were dressed quite unusually.
She adjusted her pace slightly and walked towards that restaurant.
There were quite a few people sitting in the first-floor hall of the restaurant, including Loose Cultivators, merchants, and a few Cultivators wearing uniform attire sitting in the corner talking in low voices.
When Jiuer walked in, the noise in the hall seemed to be gently suppressed by something.
Several gazes turned towards the doorway in unison.
A waiter who was wiping a table looked up, the rag in his hand stopping in mid-air.
The table of Cultivators in the corner also stopped talking, and someone's wine cup stopped at their lips without being put down immediately.
A moment later, someone whispered something, but the sound did not travel far.
Jiuer ignored those gazes, simply walking to an empty seat by the window and sitting down, casually placing a Spirit Crystal on the table, which made a crisp sound.
The light of the Spirit Crystal glowed with a warm, gentle luster under the candlelight, clearly of high value.
Everyone's gaze shifted from her face to that Spirit Crystal.
At this moment, a drunken figure in the corner stood up.
It was a stout middle-aged man with disheveled clothes and a flushed face, looking as if he had already drunk quite a bit.
His cultivation was not low, in the Palace Building Realm, which was already considered a person of some weight in such a city.
He swayed towards Jiuer's table, grinning, smiling very casually: "This young lady, you look very unfamiliar. First time in Baicao City? Would you like your big brother to accompany you for two drinks?"
His tone carried a kind of practiced relaxation, as if he were used to striking up conversations in such occasions.
Jiuer did not look up, nor did she answer.
She just raised her eyes and looked at him indifferently.
That glance could not be considered sharp, nor could it be considered oppressive; it didn't even have any obvious change.
But the drunkard's footsteps stopped.
He stood by the table, as if suddenly realizing that he was standing in a position he shouldn't be.
The smile on his face slowly faded, like a candle flame blown out by the wind.
His lips moved, but no sound came out.
Immediately after, his knees seemed to be gently bumped by something, bending uncontrollably, his body sliding down, and he knelt by the table.
His voice carried obvious panic: "I... I'm sorry."
He didn't say anything more, keeping his head down, as if he had just woken up from a short but profound dream.
A moment later, he stood up, staggered back to his own table, and after sitting down, never lifted his head again.
The atmosphere in the hall returned to normal within the next few breaths, but the traces of that brief interruption still remained.
Jiuer withdrew her gaze, as if nothing had happened.
She looked at the waiter who had been standing beside her for a while, and asked in a flat tone: "Where can I buy information in the city?"
The waiter hurriedly replied: "Replying to... replying to you, Miss, there is a Baixiao Pavilion in the west of the city that specializes in buying and selling information. Are you new here?"
Jiuer nodded and pushed that Spirit Crystal over.
"Lead the way."
"Alright, Miss... no, Senior."
