264: Domain Lord Selection
The Star Domain Palace.
The three Domain Envoys below respectfully gazed at the somewhat aged figure above, listening intently to the Domain Lord's instructions, showing themselves to be extremely eager to learn.
“I didn't expect the Primal Demon Louse to be so powerful. Even Li Ren suffered its toxic attack. I fear our Star Domain will face another catastrophe!”
“One appeared tens of thousands of years ago. I didn't take it seriously back then, which allowed the Primal Demon Louse's strength to increase rapidly, causing immense damage to the Star Domain.”
“However, after this battle, my Origin has been damaged, and I have very little Divine Power left. It is impossible for my body to sustain itself much longer, which is why I cultivated the four of you—to take the authority from my hands and guard this pure land, the Star Domain!”
The Domain Lord's body was hunched, like an old man nearing the end of his life.
“I will accelerate the original plan. I had wanted to wait a bit longer, but now... some things must be moved up!”
“Send down the order: the Star Domain will select a fourth Domain Envoy to fill the temporary vacancy.”
“At that time, one Domain Lord will be chosen from among the four of you, and the entire Star Domain will be under his control thereafter!”
The Domain Lord gazed hopefully at the three people below, all of whom he had personally promoted.
Although they came from different Star Systems, their talents were all top-notch.
“The problem with the Primal Demon Louse cannot be ignored any longer. If any of you can resolve this disaster, then I will add some extra bargaining chips for him during the upcoming assessment period.”
The three exchanged glances, said nothing, and simply bowed their heads lower.
The Domain Lord sighed softly, then said, “Alright, you may leave.”
“Guard your respective Regions well, do not give the Primal Demon Louse any opportunity, and spread the news. I will hand over the position of Domain Lord within the shortest possible time.”
“Yes, Domain Lord!”
Watching the backs of the three as they left, the Domain Lord sighed lightly.
“In the end, can one truly escape the cycle of fate?”
“Li Ren, I know you are ambitious and crave success, quite unlike your outwardly gentle demeanor, but you were truly too careless this time. Not only did you lose your life, but you also created a powerful enemy for the Star Domain!”
The Domain Lord pulled open the lapel of his robe; his body was already empty inside, with only residual Divine Power circulating on the exterior to maintain his bodily functions.
“The Primal Demon Louse's talent is truly terrifying!”
“My Divine Power can no longer advance; I can only abdicate and yield to a worthy successor!”
The Domain Lord looked at the constantly flowing Nebula inside the palace, densely packed with all kinds of Stars.
“It is time for me to let go!”
...The three who left the palace quickly regained their former authority.
Po Jun was robust, measuring well over three or four meters tall. His wide robes still couldn't conceal the bursting muscles on his body, and he radiated an exceptionally savage aura.
“I can't believe that fellow Li Ren was killed. Now there are only three of us competing, so things will be much easier!”
Ning Guang was much more slender compared to Po Jun, a typical beauty.
Her long, loose hair draped behind her, unadorned, yet it made anyone who saw her linger.
“Po Jun, have you forgotten the Domain Envoy who is about to be promoted?”
“How many years have we been following the Domain Lord? Why do you still approach matters with such an attitude?!”
Ning Guang's voice was like the soft echo of a spring, enchanting listeners.
“Hmph!”
“Ning Guang, do you really think a newly promoted Domain Envoy will pose a threat to us?”
“Furthermore... haven't you considered making this Domain Envoy one of us? We have known each other for so many years and understand each other thoroughly. Perhaps we can pretend in front of the Domain Lord...”
“I think... we can drop the act now!”
Po Jun snorted coldly, his hair flying up as waves of Divine Power surged around him.
“Oh dear... our most pressing task right now should be helping the Domain Lord select the fourth Domain Envoy, not bickering here. The Domain Lord just made his intentions clear; why are you already starting to argue?”
Domain Emissary Jue Xin was relatively plump and only a little over a meter tall, looking as if he might burst the clothes on his body at any moment.
He pulled out a pile of strange, faintly glowing Crystal Stones from the void and stuffed them directly into his mouth, chewing them noisily.
“Domain Emissary Jue Xin, that was when the Domain Lord hadn't decided when he would relinquish power, and... our strength wasn't sufficient!”
“But now, I see the Domain Lord's condition getting worse; I fear the damage from the Primal Demon Louse is still deteriorating. Since there is only one position for the Domain Lord, we are rivals. You don't need to be hypocritical here!”
A Spatial Rift opened before Po Jun, and he stepped into it.
“It's best to use whatever methods you have sooner rather than later, otherwise, there won't be another chance!”
Po Jun's deep voice still echoed, but Ning Guang and Domain Emissary Jue Xin's expressions remained unchanged.
As if... all of this was perfectly natural!
“Sister Ning Guang, are you leaving too?”
Domain Emissary Jue Xin watched Ning Guang take a step, and a palace pulled by several Golden Dragons arrived to greet her, radiant with flying rosy light and dazzling splendor.
“Domain Emissary Jue Xin, from now on, we are rivals!”
“Don't call me 'Sister' like that anymore. When the time comes... I won't hold back!”
Ning Guang flew toward the Divine Firmament Palace, and soon, pulled by the Golden Dragons, she vanished into the Interstellar Space.
“Oh dear... this is troublesome.”
Domain Emissary Jue Xin revealed his broken teeth and chuckled strangely.
“Li Ren, it's good that you died!”
“Now there's one less competitor. The Domain Lord position is mine for sure!”
Crunch!
Domain Emissary Jue Xin stuffed another handful of Crystal Stones into his mouth, chewing rapidly, his expression becoming increasingly sinister.
“Everyone's gone, so I should be going too!”
Domain Emissary Jue Xin had no grand procession; he simply floated quietly in the void.
“Po Jun and Ning Guang will likely try their hardest to push their subordinate Divine Kings into this position, but I will do the opposite. If we hold a public selection, not only will I receive the Domain Lord's praise, but it will also ensure fairness and rationality in the matter.”
“At that time... Po Jun and Ning Guang will either try to win that person over or treat them as an enemy, and I will sit on the mountain and watch the tigers fight.”
Domain Emissary Jue Xin leisurely rolled along, radiating the light from the Crystal Stones he had just eaten.
“Heh heh... maybe the Domain Lord will even assess this!”
“As for the Primal Demon Louse, Li Ren was killed, so a lone Divine Emperor going there would be no different from seeking death. This path is closed to everyone.”
“From now on, it's every person for themselves!”
