2. Image of Zhen Gua, Awakening and Rebirth: In the 'I Ching', lightning corresponds to the 'Zhen Gua'. The hexagram of Zhen Gua shows one Yang line emerging from beneath two Yin lines, symbolizing Yang Qi rising vigorously from underground, hence it is thunder.

Symbolic Meaning: Thunder represents vibration, Awakening, fear, change, and rebirth. It tears through the silent sky, awakens dormant beings, and possesses powerful might and vitality. Just as spring thunder awakens hibernating creatures, it heralds the beginning of a new cycle of life.

3. Manifestation of Heavenly Dao's Power, Punishing Evil and Promoting Good: In Daoist mythology and folk beliefs, lightning is deified, becoming a tool for the Heavenly Dao to administer rewards and punishments.

It represents the ultimate power of judgment of the supreme Law of justice in the Universe, as in "thunder and lightning strike down evil, Heavenly Dao is impartial." This is not simple superstition, but rather the ethicalization of a physical phenomenon, used to warn people to follow the Heavenly Dao and do good while avoiding evil.

Metaphysical Essence Definition: Lightning is the ultimate external manifestation of the violent conflict, union, and balance of the two fundamental energies of Yin and Yang in the Universe under specific conditions. It is a powerful and revelatory natural phenomenon produced by the dynamic operation of the 'Dao'. It is both destructive and life-giving, embodying the majesty of the Law of the Universe and the endless creativity of life.
