14: Chapter 14 The Storm Is Brewing
Chapter Fourteen: The wind before the storm
The grand drama of social death that I directed has come to a close.
To me, the mountain-shaking, sea-like roars of laughter on the playground were no less than a grand symphony.
I circled high in the sky, looking down at Zhang Wei, who was fleeing in a sorry state like a mad dog, my heart filled with the satisfaction of an artist completing a masterpiece.
Especially that fleeting, breathtakingly beautiful smile at the corner of Lin Qingzhi's mouth made me feel that it was all worth it.
To be able to win a smile from the Empress, I, a tiny little mosquito, am probably the first in all of history, right?
However, this proud and happy mood did not last long.
Zhang Wei, who had been nailed to a pillar of shame, did not find a hole to crawl into as I had expected. Instead, he hid in a deserted corner, pulled out his phone, and dialed a number.
His face, distorted by extreme shame and indignation, was clearly visible through my Compound Eyes.
It was filled with malice, madness, and a desperate, reckless ruthlessness.
"Hello? Bro! It's me!" His voice was hoarse with anger, filled with a hysterical tone.
"Do me a favor! Help me teach a woman a lesson! Right here at our school! Yes! A bitch named Lin Qingzhi! I want her to regret it! I want her to get on her knees and beg me! I want her to know the consequences of offending me!"
His roars, like the most vicious curses, carried on the wind and reached my ears without missing a single word.
The pride and joy in my heart were instantly replaced by a wave of icy chill.
I snapped my gaze toward the other side of the playground, at that white figure who was still quietly reading, unstained by the dust of the world.
An unprecedented fury erupted from the depths of my soul!
This suicidal piece of trash—it's one thing to seek his own death, but he actually dares to target Lin Qingzhi?
Does he think he is just facing an ordinary, cold school beauty?
He has no idea that the one he is trying to lay hands on is a peerless Empress who once reigned over the world and could decide the life and death of billions with a single thought!
Although, this Empress is currently still in the "Novice Village" leveling stage.
No, I must tell her this news!
This is no longer a small-scale prank; these scumbags truly dare to use lethal force!
I didn't linger any longer. With a flap of my wings, I turned into a black line nearly imperceptible to the naked eye and flew rapidly toward Lin Qingzhi's direction.
When I landed on the bench in front of her, the bell for the end of physical education class just happened to ring.
Lin Qingzhi closed her book, stood up, and prepared to return to the dormitory.
She seemed to sense my presence, and her gaze lingered on me for a moment. Deep within those cool eyes, there seemed to be a faint, almost imperceptible hint of a smile.
Clearly, she was somewhat satisfied with my performance just now.
But I'm in no mood to claim credit right now!
I anxiously flew around her in circles, letting out a "buzzing," urgent warning sound.
"Hmm?" Lin Qingzhi's delicate brows furrowed slightly as she looked at me with some confusion.
She thought I was asking her for a "reward."
I was spinning in circles with anxiety; the language barrier really is the greatest obstacle!
How should I tell her?
I had a sudden flash of inspiration and dove toward the corner where Zhang Wei had just made the phone call, then quickly flew back and repeated this action in front of her.
I also tried to use my [Vibration Perception] ability to emit a rhythmic vibration wave into the air, mimicking the tone of the word "danger."
This was a new ability I had just acquired, and I didn't quite know how to use it yet, but I couldn't care about that now.
At first, Lin Qingzhi only thought I was being a bit unusual, but when she saw how restless I was and how I repeatedly pointed in the same direction, a touch of solemnity flashed through her wise phoenix eyes.
She was no ordinary young girl.
She possessed the soul of an Empress and thousands of years of experience.
She knew very well that I, an Exotic Species that had already displayed high intelligence, would never behave this way without reason.
She looked in the direction I was signaling. Although Zhang Wei had long since left, with her sharp Spiritual Sense, she could still capture the lingering traces of malice and killing intent in the air.
Her expression instantly darkened.
That spring-breeze-like smile that had just surfaced vanished without a trace, replaced by a coldness akin to ten-thousand-year-old ice.
"Is it that ant again..." she whispered to herself, her voice devoid of emotion. "It seems I have been too merciful to him."
She understood!
I felt a surge of joy; it seemed my performance wasn't in vain.
Lin Qingzhi didn't linger, stepping out with her long legs toward the dormitory.
Her pace was still composed, but the aura around her had become colder and more dangerous than ever before.
I followed closely behind her, acting as her most loyal aerial guard.
Back at the dormitory, Zhao Xiaoya hadn't returned yet.
Lin Qingzhi didn't read or cultivate as usual. Instead, she walked to the window and quietly looked down at the campus below, her eyes deep, thinking about who knows what.
An oppressive feeling of a gathering storm enveloped the entire room.
I knew that she, like me, was waiting for the storm to arrive.
But just waiting isn't my style.
My current strength is fine for dealing with some mutated Little Bugs, but facing humans—especially social thugs who might also be Awakened Ones—I'm still too weak.
Although my mouthparts are hard, they might not necessarily pierce through their clothes and skin.
My Nerve Toxin is useful, but the dosage is too small. For giant humans, the effect would likely be greatly diminished.
I must become stronger!
I opened the System Panel and looked at the enticing string of numbers on it.
[evolution points: 64]
This is my largest fortune to date!
It's time for a transformative evolution!
I cast my gaze toward the dazzling array of the evolution list.
This time, I'm going to spend all my points where they count most!
A real battle is about to come.
And I must be fully prepared.
