136: Chapter 136 My Sister's "Anti-Socialite" Social Life
The air in the dormitory froze.
Young Master Li, Wang Zhe, and Zhang Yuan were like puppets hit with a pause button, staring fixedly at Chen Muyang.
Every word on that appointment letter was like a red-hot branding iron, searing itself onto their retinas.
"Huaying Media... the new boss?" Young Master Li's voice was dry, and the patek philippe on his wrist felt incredibly heavy at that moment.
The lighter in Wang Zhe's hand fell to the floor with a "clatter," but he didn't even notice.
Zhang Yuan even slid straight down from the upper bunk, almost twisting his ankle.
Chen Muyang didn't pay them any more mind, picked up the student ID card on the table, and turned to leave.
"As for the orientation party, handle it yourselves."
The door closed gently, cutting off the three petrified roommates.
...
Imperial Capital Academy of Arts.
Chen Nianyao had chosen the oil painting department; she liked staying quietly in the studio, filling canvases with color.
She was wearing a simple white T-shirt and jeans, her hair tied into a bun, with a completely bare face. In an art academy where everyone vied to outshine each other, this attire was simply a breath of fresh air.
"Hey, are you a freshman this year?" A senior wearing a puff-sleeve dress and full, exquisite makeup walked over with a warm smile on her face. "I'm Sun Qian from the junior year. You look a bit lonely by yourself, so let me add you to our academy's sisterhood group chat."
Chen Nianyao didn't suspect anything; she thanked her and scanned the QR code to join the group.
The group was called "Imperial Capital Socialite Reserves," and it had over two hundred members.
As soon as she entered, the screen was flooded with various messages. It was either location tags for afternoon tea at SKP or photos of car keys with big logos on the steering wheels, occasionally interspersed with a few selfies at art exhibitions, captioned with incomprehensible art commentary.
Chen Nianyao scrolled a couple of times, found it a bit boring, then tossed her phone aside and continued painting.
After a while, the group suddenly quieted down.
The senior named Sun Qian sent a picture in the group and tagged everyone.
It was an orange Hermès Kelly bag, placed on a chair in a high-end restaurant, photographed with great style.
Sun Qian: "Sisters, the new Kelly 25 has arrived! Starting this week, we're taking turns sharing the cost to take photos! Same old rules: one day per person, five thousand deposit. No water allowed, no scratches allowed. Violators pay the full price!"
The group immediately became lively.
"Wow! Sister Qianqian is amazing! You even managed to get this!"
"I'll go first! I happen to be meeting an investor tomorrow!"
"I'll take Wednesday! I'm going to take it to a private cocktail party!"
Chen Nianyao looked at her phone screen and blinked.
Sharing the cost?
Her understanding of this term was still limited to the level of buying bubble tea with someone else to get the second cup at half price.
She seemed to have seen this bag in her mother's walk-in closet; there were several in different colors. Her mother said it was quite convenient for carrying paintbrushes and paints because it was durable.
She thought for a moment and typed a line in the group.
Chen Nianyao: "Senior, is this bag a group buy? My mom says the quality is okay. If we buy a lot, can we get a discount?"
The group plunged into dead silence again.
After a full half-minute, someone cautiously sent a question mark.
Sun Qian's avatar flashed, and she sent a string of ellipses followed by a voice message, her tone filled with barely suppressed anger: "This new junior, what do you mean? Who are you being sarcastic with? Buying a lot? Do you know how hard it is to buy this bag? Why don't you try buying one and let me see?"
Chen Nianyao was bewildered by this sudden hostility.
She was just asking a simple question.
She looked at the screen, thought about it seriously, and then typed her reply.
Chen Nianyao: "Oh, I just wanted to get them as joining gifts for my roommates and some of the aunts at my dad's company. If I need a hundred, about how long would I have to wait? Can I get a discount?"
"Boom!"
The group completely exploded.
"A hundred? Is she crazy?"
"Bragging without even thinking! Is she playing us for fools?"
"Who added this person? Kick her out immediately! It's disgusting!"
Sun Qian's private message also popped up, her words even more intense: "I don't care whose daughter you are, you're too green to act high and mighty here! If you're poor, just say you're poor; nobody will look down on you. But puffing yourself up to look bigger than you are just makes you look ridiculous!"
The next second, a system notification popped up at the top of the screen.
【You have been removed from the group chat by the group owner】
Chen Nianyao looked at the darkened chat interface and scratched her head in confusion.
She still couldn't figure out what she had said wrong.
...
In the afternoon, by the campus lake.
Chen Nianyao found a patch of grass and prepared to sketch.
The grass was a bit damp, and she didn't want to dirty her pants. So, she casually took her pink Hermès Constance bag off her shoulder, placed it under her very naturally, and sat down on it.
Not far away, Sun Qian was walking over with a few of her little sisters, chatting and laughing. They had just returned from a boutique, and everyone's face was brimming with vain satisfaction.
"See that? It's that country bumpkin." One girl pointed at Chen Nianyao's back and sneered, "That's the one who said she wanted to buy a hundred Hermès bags."
Sun Qian snorted coldly and was just about to make a few mocking remarks, but her gaze froze.
She stared intently at the pink square bag underneath Chen Nianyao's bottom.
That H buckle, that luster of the leather, those perfect stitches...
"Th-that bag..." Sun Qian's voice was trembling, her finger pointing at Chen Nianyao, "Is... is that a real Constance?"
The few girls also crowded over to look, and when they saw the full view of the bag, everyone gasped.
They had just seen the same model in the boutique; the price after the required additional purchases was seven figures.
And now, this luxury item worth an apartment was being used by its owner as a moisture-proof mat without a care in the world.
This kind of shock was more intense than any verbal showing off; it directly shattered all the dignity they had built up through sharing costs and renting.
Sun Qian's face turned from red to white, and she felt like a clown.
Just as she was so ashamed and angry that she wanted to find a hole to crawl into, her phone in her pocket rang.
She took it out to look, and it was a push notification for entertainment news.
Sun Qian tapped on it, and the moment she saw the headline clearly, the trace of shame on her face was immediately replaced by a malicious sense of pleasure.
She walked quickly to the sisters who were still gossiping and flashed the phone screen in front of their eyes.
"What's so great about her? So what if she's rich?" Sun Qian's voice was sharp and excited. "Look! Her family is in trouble! It's all over the internet, saying her dad is a nouveau riche involved in organized crime!"
