187: Chapter 187 Returning to the Train, Wiping Out the Remaining Evils!
Lin Xiao swam toward the direction of the Astral Express for a short while.
He noticed wisps of blue blood appearing in the seawater, growing increasingly dense.
Then, he saw the doomsday train lying across the sedimentary layer.
The carriage walls were undamaged, and the membrane covering the surface remained perfectly intact.
But, on the roof, in the corridors, and outside the doors...
Merfolk Berserkers were everywhere.
They were burlier and stronger than the ordinary Imperial Guard.
Their eyes were blood-red, and a thin layer of blood mist drifted around them.
These Merfolk, who had been injected with large amounts of source essence, were currently attacking the Astral Express and its passengers in a frenzy.
Lin Xiao did not slow down.
He moved at high speed through the seawater, crashing straight into the area where the Berserkers were most concentrated.
The dark red patterns on his battle axe flowed wildly.
In an instant, three heads flew high into the air.
Following closely with a second swing, two Berserkers were sliced in half at the waist.
Those Merfolk Berserkers, who required several people working together to handle, were completely powerless before Lin Xiao.
Alternating between his battle axe and gauntlet claw, every one of his slashes landed precisely on the joints and neck connections, and every thrust targeted vital spots.
The explosive power from his 96 points of Constitution made his speed so fast that the Berserkers couldn't even react.
In just about a minute, Lin Xiao carved a bloody path through the frenzied tide.
From Carriage 11, he hacked his way all the way to Carriage 07.
"Wanwan!"
His voice echoed through the corridor.
"Xiao Lin, we're over here!"
Jiang Wanwan's voice came from the connection of Carriage 7.
Lin Xiao fought his way toward the sound.
He saw Wen Yiran standing in the gangway, the string of her Composite Crossbow still vibrating.
Tian Xiwei stood behind her, the black mist swirling around her [seal ring] several times denser than usual.
Xu Shan and Zhou Jun stood back-to-back at the very front; further ahead was the corridor of Carriage 06.
Both of their weapons were stained with blue blood.
Xu Shan's Giant Hammer had already been smashed out of shape.
Zhou Jun's face was pale, a sign that his mental energy was on the verge of exhaustion.
It was clear how intense the battle had been.
As for Chen Pingan.
He had already reached the middle of the Carriage 06 corridor.
The corpses of many Merfolk Berserkers lay around him, gradually being swallowed by the floor.
Chen Pingan gripped his dao tightly; several bleeding wounds marked his body, but his gaze remained resolute and his sword hand steady.
A Berserker flanked him from the side, pouncing toward him.
Chen Pingan's reactions were sharp; he sidestepped the attack while thrusting his dao forward.
The blade sliced in from the Berserker's armpit, precisely cutting through the gaps in the spine.
In an instant, that massive body seemed to have all its strength drained away, collapsing limply to the ground.
The rest of the Berserkers continued to swarm forward.
Just as Chen Pingan was about to strike again, a heavy battle axe flew past him, carrying a terrifying momentum as it smashed into the front of the corridor.
Before those Merfolk could even make a move, they were torn to pieces by the axe blade.
A surge of shadow energy enveloped the battle axe embedded in the pile of corpses, then yanked it back, sending it spinning through the air.
Chen Pingan turned to look.
Lin Xiao had already reached his side, reaching out to catch the returning [calamity bane].
"Well done."
Lin Xiao patted Chen Pingan on the shoulder.
The sleeve of his missing arm fluttered in the breeze, but the man standing there was straighter than ever.
Chen Pingan was stunned for a moment.
Then, he grinned, unable to hide his excitement: "Brother Lin, you're finally back!"
"Leave the rest to me," Lin Xiao replied simply, then charged forward with his axe.
With the rank one big shot joining the fray, the tide of battle reversed instantly.
A figure glowing with red light shuttled from the front of the train to the rear.
In less than ten minutes, the skull of the last Merfolk Berserker was split open by the battle axe, and its body fell into a pool of blood.
The Astral Express finally grew quiet.
Lin Xiao put away his battle axe and led everyone back to his territory.
The door to Room 07-01 was pushed open, revealing a complete mess inside.
The furniture was damaged, and there were several cracks in the walls.
The tempered glass window was completely shattered; if not for the hull coating, seawater would likely have flooded in.
Lin Xiao repaired the damaged facilities and furniture, then took off the tattered [deep sea aria] set, rummaged through his storage box for the Level 3 individual pieces he had swapped out earlier, and put them on one by one.
Although they lacked powerful set bonuses or underwater breathing, they were at least intact and could handle unexpected situations.
He checked the repair requirements for the Level 4 set.
stardust crystal shards, Scrap Steel, General-purpose Plastic...
Except for the crystal shards, he had most of the materials.
He could have used pleasure tokens to make up the difference, but since he had already done a repair once, his tokens were nearly depleted.
He decided to set it aside for now.
Lin Xiao sent a message to Xiao He, then sat down on the sofa and let out a long breath.
Although his high Constitution meant he wouldn't exhaust himself so quickly,
After running back and forth for several hours, he still felt physically and mentally drained.
The three women sat around Lin Xiao.
Wen Yiran placed her Composite Crossbow on the coffee table and rubbed her aching fingers.
Tian Xiwei leaned against her, closing her eyes to recover her mental energy, clearly exhausted as well.
Jiang Wanwan, however, didn't stay idle; she poured several glasses of coconut juice, handing one to Xiao Lin and distributing the rest to her sisters.
Chen Pingan, Xu Shan, and Zhou Jun also walked in, stripped off their gear, and collapsed onto the carpet.
Xiao He followed behind them, carrying a large basket of things in his arms.
"Brother Lin, corn!"
He placed the basket on the coffee table.
Then, under Jiang Wanwan's guidance, he ran to the kitchen counter by the door and started roasting the corn.
Soon, golden-brown corn brushed with maple syrup and honey was delivered to everyone's hands.
"Brother Lin said there's enough for everyone!"
Xiao He distributed the food without stopping.
Lin Xiao picked up a fragrant ear of corn and took a large bite.
It was sweet, soft, and had the charred aroma of charcoal fire.
The physical exhaustion gradually faded away in the warmth of the food.
Lin Xiao rested for a moment, listening to Jiang Wanwan, Xu Shan, and the others describe the previous battle on the Astral Express.
Suddenly, he looked up slightly.
The the queen had returned.
The ship's hull slowly hovered above the Astral Express, the current stirred by the ship kicking up large clouds of white sediment.
Through the window, figures could be seen on the deck.
Fan Sinian was waving his hand, directing the brothers to disembark, while Fang Yuan stood at the stern, tallying the supplies on deck.
Those were all pieces of equipment stripped from the Merfolk corpses.
At the same time, the sound of rapid, dense footsteps came from the corridor.
A slender figure was the first to appear at the entrance of the territory; before even standing steady, she shouted urgently:
"Lin Xiao! Was Cang Ming killed by you?"
Jing Hua gripped the doorframe, panting for breath.
Water was still dripping from her short hair, and she had changed into a new set of Bio-Armor, but the fatigue on her face could not be hidden.
Those purple pupils stared fixedly at Lin Xiao, as if confirming something unbelievable.
