7: Chapter 7 Iron Order Wasteland
Above the desolate earth, Icarus hovered in mid-air. A pale blue holographic projection slowly unfurled over the plains ahead, complete with everything from frameworks and pipelines to storage zones and distribution ports.
This was the ultimate achievement of Dyson Sphere technology—the ultimate template that turned concepts directly into reality. With a single blueprint, an entire industrial zone could be summoned from the void.
Eight Construction Drones flapped their wings and flew out like nimble dragonflies, dancing lightly above the virtual image formed by the blueprint. With a gentle tap on the coordinates of the virtual projection, they locked in the positions. In the next moment, pre-fabricated Negentropy Furnaces, sections of standard-specification high-speed Conveyor Belts, Tesla Towers, and Assembling Machines leaped out from the spatial warehouse within Icarus, landing precisely where the blueprint designated.
Each warp-delivery gently displaced the air, stirring up imperceptible ripples of airflow. As the drones' construction frequency climbed and the delivery speed reached its peak, a continuous, soft wind field formed within the blueprint's range, sweeping over metal skeletons and newly formed frames, producing a fine humming sound.
To Icarus, this was the sound of order growing robustly.
Conveyor Belts snapped together section by section, quantum splitters and Sorters interfaced instantly, and storage arrays, power interfaces, and logistics ports were calibrated at the same moment. There was no construction sequence, no waiting period—everything was a finished product, and every step was simply a matter of taking its place.
On the horizon further away, vast fields of Wind Turbines already covered the wilderness like a mechanical forest. Massive blades rotated at a constant speed in the thin atmosphere, converting the planet's own weak wind energy into stable current. This was transmitted through Power Transmission Towers into Tesla Towers, providing an inexhaustible source of basic power for Icarus's global construction.
Icarus slightly adjusted its posture, its optical lens scanning the land that was being completely rewritten by its presence.
Supermarkets, turbines, Conveyor Belts, refineries...
Everything was being 'written' into reality at its own unique and unquestionable rhythm.
In just a moment, a complete, closed-loop, and ready-to-use finished building supermarket and an Interstellar Logistics Station took shape on the wasteland.
It was a precisely placed industrial heart, prepared to provide an uninterrupted supply of 'finished buildings and supplies' for the infrastructure of the entire star sector—referred to as the 'Supermarket' for short.
After completing the core construction, Icarus began to deploy defenses layer by layer around the manufacturing base. The eight Construction Drones moved like precise worker bees between the preset defense nodes. Gauss Machine Gun Towers leaped out from folded space, their electromagnetic rails emitting a low hum as they charged; Missile Defense Towers followed closely behind, their Implosion Cannons reflecting a cold metallic luster in the sunlight.
Conveyor Belts and Tesla Towers were connected simultaneously, the energy network extending toward the defensive array like nerves. As each defense tower took its place, the corresponding ammunition production lines were already starting up within the building supermarket—electromagnetic slugs, high-explosive warheads, and interceptor missiles. All supplies flowed at a constant speed on the Conveyor Belts, stored into small storage bins via Four-way Splitters, waiting for the moment they would be needed.
When the last Implosion Cannon finished calibration, the pulse of the entire base finally settled into stability.
The breathing of steel, the whispers of Conveyor Belts, and the silent vigil of the defense towers merged into a single, cycling polyphony.
Icarus slowly increased its flight altitude, its optical lens sweeping over the base it had woven with its own hands.
A new record refreshed in the system log:
Defense Array Deployment: Complete.
Current Threat Level: Low.
Suggestion: Allocate surplus computing power to—Oil Exploration Protocol Optimization.
Icarus hovered quietly in mid-air, its optical lens looking deep into the wasteland.

Exploration Mission Initiated
The eight Construction Drones detached from the construction sequence and switched to exploration mode. They scattered like a mechanical swarm, radiating outward from the base to scan. Multi-spectral sensors plowed across the desolate surface, analyzing the mineral composition, geological structure, and potential hydrocarbon deposits of every inch of soil.
Icarus's core processor rapidly computed the exploration data stream. Coal reserves were sufficient, iron veins were clear, and it even detected rare element nodes—but as for oil, none was found.
A cold conclusion popped up in the system log:
[Geological Age Analysis: Planet age approximately 4.5 billion years. Theoretical probability of organic sedimentary layers: 97.3%. Actual detection result: Zero.]
The Construction Drones continued to sweep across the wasteland at high speed as Icarus continued to analyze the geological data. While the failure to find oil was constantly refreshed in the log, a backup plan had already begun executing in its core processor—re-evaluating the value weights of all detected resources.
Just then, an abnormal metallic reflection on the horizon, thirty kilometers away from the base, caught its attention.
[Non-natural structure detected. Scanning...]
Four of the eight Construction Drones immediately turned and flew toward the reflection point at high speed. Icarus hovered in the air, receiving real-time images from the front through the data link—
The metallic wreckage was half-buried in the dirt like a forgotten behemoth. Where the rust had peeled off the armor plating, a symbol was revealed: a ring of precisely interlocking gears surrounding a hollow skull. A trace of confusion flashed through Icarus's logic module. In its database, gears represented machinery, transmission, and civilization; a skull represented organic matter, death, and fragility. Yet here, these two things were combined.
Scattered around the wreckage were charred shell casings, broken weapon parts, disorganized mechanical structures, and green slime splashed onto the metal, all telling the story of a brutal battle.
On this planet now, at least three different 'civilizations' had once fought here—the one that worshipped the skull, the one that bled green blood, and... the Dark Fog that had followed it here.
[Biological residue detected: Unknown organic compound. Gene sequence analysis: Highly unstable, abnormal mutation rate.] Icarus's core processor began to heat up slightly. [Warning: Large-scale biological activity detected. Quantity: Estimated 170-250 individuals. Distance: 8 km, approaching.]
Almost at the same moment, another data stream flooded into the system.
[Engine vibration detected. Frequency: Standard internal combustion engine. Quantity: 3 units. Distance: 5 km, Bearing: Northwest.]
Icarus instantly shifted into a tactical assessment state. Its optical lens turned toward the northwest, and through the thin atmospheric disturbances, the silhouettes of three tracked vehicles gradually became clear.
