50: Chapter 50: Meeting Up, Creating Distance

Just as Ross was driving the tank treads formed by the Hand of Vines, moving forward smoothly yet steadily,

meanwhile, mid-air in the core area, accompanied by the flash of a silvery-white space crack in an instant,

two figures suddenly fell out from the outside mine tunnel.

At this moment, both of them were still in a dazed state.

Neither of them had expected that just as they were preparing to leave the mine tunnel in a hurry,

hoping to wait for the academy wizards to come support them outside the cave, their feet would step into empty air and fall into a space crack.

At this time, Edmund was clearly a bit more awake than Vera.

He immediately adjusted his position to the bottom, then hugged his younger sister Vera, acting as her human cushion.

Right behind Edmund himself, the casting effect of the Iron Armor Spell was also pushed to its maximum by him.

With a loud crash,

the shell of the Iron Armor Spell produced a massive impact when it came into contact with the ground.

At this moment, Edmund's magic power was also rapidly depleting.

Because he bore the weight of two people on his body and fell from mid-air, the massive kinetic energy generated during this period would mean certain death if he were a mortal.

Fortunately, as a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice, this bit of impact was still within an acceptable range for him.

It was just that some cracks appeared on the dark golden armor originally formed by the Iron Armor Spell.

The impact force of falling directly from mid-air was still too great, and right now, Edmund's own consciousness was a bit groggy.

However, Vera on top of him received less impact due to the protection of her older brother Edmund, and her consciousness quickly cleared up.

"Brother, are you alright?"

Vera looked at the current state of her brother, whose expression was dim as he collapsed on the ground.

As she spoke, she hurriedly pulled out some potions from her body and poured them into Edmund's mouth.

"It's nothing, just got a bit disoriented by this damn space crack."

Looking at his younger sister's flustered appearance, Edmund quickly comforted her.

Then he got up and stood.

He felt somewhat speechless in his heart. He had originally thought that this commission would allow him to protect his younger sister.

He hadn't expected accidents to occur one after another.

But fortunately, neither side suffered any injuries, which was the greatest fortune amidst misfortune.

But at this moment, the two of them seemed to have not noticed anything unusual around them.

And just as the two were communicating, in this core area, some red-eyed monsters had already been attracted by the loud noise.

Hissing, bizarre sounds

traveled toward where the two were located.

...

On his unhurried journey, Ross had also casually eliminated some Hyenas and Walking Corpses.

But it didn't amount to much anyway; after all, there didn't seem to be many miners who got lost after entering the mine tunnel.

As for the Hyenas that preyed on rotting corpses, they weren't particularly numerous either. Ross had wiped out a large portion of them along his hurried path.

Some scattered ones might have already fled back into their nests.

Finding them again wouldn't be easy, and it would easily waste Ross's traveling time.

At this moment, Vera and Edmund encountered quite a bit of difficulty.

The two had attracted these giant monsters with red pupils and long fangs growing in their mouths.

The strength of these monsters was roughly at the Wizard Apprentice stage.

But there were quite a few of them, nearly reaching twenty.

At this time, the two of them were coping rather with difficulty.

If there were only three or five of them, it wouldn't pose much difficulty for the two.

But these monsters had reached over twenty, forming a scale.

Although Edmund was a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice, in terms of total magic power, he was somewhat higher than Ross and Vera.

However, in terms of the number of Spell Models mastered, he was clearly inferior to Ross.

Currently, he had only mastered two Spell Models: the Iron Armor Spell and the Hand of Magic.

At this moment, not only did he have to protect his younger sister, but he also had to deal with attacks from all around; both of them were getting overwhelmed.

Just as the two were flustered and had reached a juncture where magic imbalance was beginning to appear,

a fireball emitting extreme danger suddenly descended.

It was the Magic Flame.

Ross saw the dangerous plight of Vera and Edmund from afar and immediately released the Magic Flame filled with fire elements.

It wasn't that Ross didn't want to use the Void Magic Flame cast with the higher-power void element.

Rather, although the Void Magic Flame had stronger effects and power,

for Vera and Edmund who were besieged by monsters, it was hard to observe and easily caused friendly fire.

However, Ross's attack was extremely effective.

The spell filled with the scorched scent of fire elements dealt no small amount of damage to these monsters.

And Ross also very easily attracted the aggro of these monsters.

It was also at this moment that Ross hurriedly gave a wink to Vera and Edmund.

Ross signaled them to quickly leave the monster encirclement and then rendezvous.

"These monsters... have no pupils, only eyes glowing with red light. They also have huge, foul-smelling fangs growing at their jaws. Just as I guessed, this is a group of Ghouls."

When Ross mistakenly entered this wasteland and encountered the state of the first Walking Corpse as well as the dug-up graves, he had been guessing whether they were these evil spirit lives.

Ghouls were ugly in appearance, a kind of evil spirit monster living in deserts or wastelands that could transform into giant beasts.

They could usually also transform into scavenging Hyenas.

Then they would roam in tombs, the wilderness, or places where corpses appeared. They would loot graveyards and then disturb the peaceful sleep of the dead and departed.

Those Hyenas encountered on the road were, of course, purely ordinary animals.

Of course, it wasn't ruled out that they were descendants of these Ghouls with degraded bloodlines, but the two shared a common point: both retained cruel and scavenging characteristics.

They would gnaw the prey's corpse clean, sometimes leaving not even bone dregs behind.

Humans bitten by them would form Walking Corpses with collapsed consciousness under the infection of their bloodline and magic power.

If there was timely medical treatment, it would be fine, but under long-term influence, they would become Walking Corpses.

That was the reason why Ross hadn't encountered a single normal miner all the way here.

These miners had all been bitten and infected by this group of Ghouls.

If these Walking Corpses were modified over a long period, new Ghouls might still be born among them.

Ross watched as Vera and Edmund were trying to break out of the encirclement.

They also put some distance between themselves and the Ghouls.

"This way, there is space for battle. I won't have to keep holding back."

Ross muttered in his heart.

Yes, during this period, Ross had been suppressing his magic power.

Then he used the Magic Flame driven by the fire element to attack the Ghouls.

Although these evil spirit lives were still fearful of the Magic Flame driven by the fire element,

for Ross, this wasn't the maximum power his Magic Flame could achieve.
