27: Chapter 27 Shang Rou with Her Words Removed

Ever since Shang Rou transformed from a young girl into a young woman, she had started to develop a quirky personality.

In front of Sun Ning, she had lost that air of intellectuality.

She had evolved from a big sister figure into a little sister.

The two of them got into the car; Sun Ning didn't state a destination, and Shang Rou didn't ask, as the car drove straight towards the Peking University staff quarters.

That was their tacit understanding.

Since Sun Ning was in the capital, it was only right and proper for him to pay his respects to Elder Shang.

This was about honoring his mentor, and it was also an act of filial piety!

Shang Rou understood Sun Ning just as well as Sun Ning understood Shang Rou.

In this era, the capital had not yet become the "Capital of Congestion."

The vehicle quickly drove into the small courtyard.

According to Sun Ning's knowledge, his mentor's wife would be home at this time.

After retiring, the old lady spent her days in leisure and contentment.

As for Elder Shang, it was hard to say where he was; if he was working as a teacher at the school, he would insist on returning home for meals and rest.

If he was at the State Council or other departments, he generally wouldn't return at noon.

Before Shang Rou could even park the car, Sun Ning leaped out and ran towards the house.

He shouted loudly, "Mentor's wife, is the food ready? Little Sun Ning is about to starve to death!"

Hearing the commotion outside, the mentor's wife walked out of the house.

Her tone was filled with doting affection as she said, "You little monkey, why didn't you say something before coming? I could have prepared what you like to eat in advance."

Before Sun Ning could speak, Shang Rou took over the conversation: "Sun Ning said he wanted to give you and Elder Shang a surprise."

The only response Shang Rou received was a kind yet disdainful roll of the eyes.

The old lady simply ignored Shang Rou, grabbed Sun Ning's arm, and walked into the house.

After closing the door behind her, she went into the kitchen to prepare a meal.

The old couple had been extremely displeased ever since Shang Rou went into business.

In their value system, a girl having a stable job and getting married early was a blessing.

They believed that if a girl went into business, she would become wild, and her heart would become wild too!

Just as they had feared, after Shang Rou started her business, she was still unmarried at thirty.

During that time, the old couple had worried themselves sick over her marriage.

Yet, she absolutely refused to go on blind dates.

Before they could even finish worrying about their daughter's marriage, who knew that she would move her residency to Hong Kong without a word, insisting on becoming some kind of big capitalist.

It made the old couple so angry they almost cut ties with their daughter.

That day, Sun Ning had comforted the old couple on the phone for nearly two hours.

Just as Sun Ning was sitting on the sofa eating fruit, Shang Rou finally entered the front door like a timid young wife.

The aggrieved look on her face was something else.

In that instant, Sun Ning understood why Shang Rou had insisted on returning to the capital from Hong Kong; it turned out she wanted him to coax the old couple.

If she hadn't been with Sun Ning, she probably wouldn't have been able to enter this house today.

Sun Ning subconsciously looked towards the kitchen and lowered his voice, "What's the situation? They still haven't forgiven you?"

"What do you think? It's not like you don't know how stubborn they are."

Hearing Shang Rou's words, Sun Ning couldn't help but laugh.

His response was a sharp pain in his soft flesh.

"Still laughing? I came here today to ask for your help. Elder Shang almost stripped the 'Shang' name from me."

"It would be better if he did. If he took it back, you could change it to 'Sun's Rou.' Let's see how he takes that back! At most, he could only take back the 'Rou' character."

The strength of the pinch on his waist increased a few notches, and she said bitterly, "You only know how to take advantage of me."

The only answer Shang Rou got was a burst of loud laughter.

Just then, a resonant voice came from outside the door: "Sun Ning, you're back?"

The two people, who were busy flirting, stood up instantly upon hearing this voice, ready to greet him.

"Yo, who is this? Where did this wild girl come from? Did she come to my house to beg for food?"

"Dad..."

When Shang Rou heard this, she immediately activated her charm offensive. The tone of that "Dad" was drawn out, even carrying a slight tremor.

"Don't call me Dad. I'm not your dad; you're my dad, you're my great-aunt."

This sentence was clearly filled with immense resentment.

However, there was no real anger in his tone anymore; it was more of a complaint.

Sun Ning knew it was his turn to step in.

Shang Rou had traveled thousands of miles to come back, and she still had to work hard to cater to him.

What was it all for?

It certainly wasn't for the back pain she'd have the next day.

What she wanted was for the father-daughter and mother-daughter relationships to be mended.

He quickly stepped forward to support his mentor, "Mentor, are you still angry with Senior Sister?"

"Senior Sister is just trying to realize her dreams. In the future, you'll be the father of a female tycoon with assets worth hundreds of billions."

"By then, Senior Sister will also be a great entrepreneur who revitalizes the country through industry."

"She will hold countless job positions and numerous high-end industries in her hands."

"In this way, she can also contribute to the country's development, right?"

Since his mentor was against Senior Sister moving her residency to Hong Kong, he had to find another way to persuade the old man from a different angle.

What was Elder Shang's job? He was a member of the national think tank; could he not see through Sun Ning's scheme?

But he did indeed need a step to climb down.

How could he really be angry with his own daughter? He doted on her too much.

The only thing he wasn't sure about was whether Shang Rou's company could develop to the extent Sun Ning described.

Once an enterprise reached a certain scale, its impact was immense.

The employment it generated and the taxes it paid were of major benefit to the country.

Furthermore, with Shang Rou moving the company to Hong Kong, she could achieve better development once some restrictions were lifted.

Elder Shang accepted the step Sun Ning offered him.

He forgave Shang Rou with a "humph."

However, he reached out and twisted Sun Ning's ear.

"I finally understand. So, Rou Rou, this girl, was instigated by you!"

"I was wondering, this girl doesn't have that kind of ability to earn hundreds of millions in a few years."

"So you're using your Senior Sister to pave the way for your own future, aren't you?"

"How did I not notice that you were such an official-seeker?"

Sun Ning cried out in pain, hoping the old man would spare him.

But it had little effect. Sun Ning hurriedly said, "Mentor, you taught us that knowledge without action is a sickness."

"Your disciple is simply following your teachings and striving to achieve the unity of knowledge and action."

"Humph, glib-tongued!"

Finally, the high-pressure atmosphere completely dissipated, and Shang Rou had survived the ordeal.

As for the mentor's wife, she was actually easier to coax than the mentor; the household mainly depended on the mentor's attitude.

After this small interlude passed, Shang Rou seemed to remember the real business.

She hurriedly asked Sun Ning, "Tell me, why did you come back to the capital? Don't tell me you want to be a deserter."

Hearing Elder Shang's question, Sun Ning inwardly slandered him.

If he were to be a deserter, the first person to break his legs would be Elder Shang.

There was no other reason; Elder Shang's expectations for him were simply too high.

Don't look at how he sighed about him entering the system earlier.

But he still held expectations for Sun Ning's way of taking a different path and doing economy in a down-to-earth manner.

This could also be considered as putting his philosophy into practice.

Sun Ning hurriedly explained, "I came to the ministry to see if I could request some funding. The school in the township where I work is truly dilapidated."

As he spoke, Sun Ning took many photos out of his briefcase and showed them to Elder Shang.

While looking at them, he explained where the school was, how many students there were, and so on.
