5: Chapter 5 Tonight, I Will Not Sleep

Sun Ning planned to have Shang Rou focus on industry. Since he chose to walk this path, he had to eliminate certain sensitive things. For example, domestic finance. Moreover, he knew that only tangible work could build a strong nation.

His current company, aside from accumulating capital quickly, was of no help to his career and meaningless to the current nation.

At the time, Shang Rou had felt quite dejected when Sun Ning asked her to go to Hong Kong. She had only said, "I'll consider it," and nothing more came of it. Yet today, Sun Ning's unintentional mention struck a chord in Shang Rou's heart.

Shang Rou snuggled into Sun Ning's arms, listening to her sweetheart apologize repeatedly. He even declared that he wanted her to return to Heyang with him. Her heart couldn't help but overflow with happiness.

"You stinky little brother, I thought you were going to abandon me just after getting what you wanted."

Seeing Shang Rou looking so pitiful, which clearly didn't fit her usual temperament, stirred Sun Ning's desire again, even though he had just stopped. However, the beauty before him was clearly unable to endure any more conquest. Sun Ning could only recite a mantra of clarity to himself while comforting his beloved.

"Senior Sister, how could I ever abandon you? I love you too much to ever do that."

"It was my lack of consideration that hurt your heart."

One sentence—just this one sentence—allowed the emotions Shang Rou had suppressed for years to erupt.

"Mm... Sun Ning, I've waited for years, and finally, I've heard you say those three words."

"I love you, I love you so much, and I will be yours forever."

Having released her emotions, Shang Rou lay in Sun Ning's arms, sobbing continuously.

Sun Ning didn't know that from the moment Shang Rou first saw him, she had been deeply impressed by his handsomeness. Added to that was the fact that Shang Rou was the youngest daughter in her family and the junior sister in their martial arts sect. When such a younger "little brother" appeared, she naturally wanted to get close to him. Over time, she was deeply attracted by Sun Ning's confidence, humor, and cheerfulness. Later, Sun Ning invited her to partner with him, allowing her to showcase her value and realize her dreams. At the same time, she fell more and more in love with this capable man. However, because of the age gap, she had always suppressed her feelings, not daring to express them. It wasn't until Sun Ning said he was going to the grassroots level that she was finally able to let it all out.

Sun Ning was different; he simply liked beautiful women. Especially a super-beauty like Shang Rou. It was the first time he had seen a woman with such a perfect figure and intellectual temperament, and he was smitten. At the time, he had wanted to make a move, but for certain reasons, he hadn't spoken up. He also understood the kindness Shang Rou had shown him. Furthermore, Shang Rou was a candidate for a wife that he recognized in his heart. Gentle, generous, tactful, and knowing how to handle situations. Mainly, he was afraid that if he pursued Shang Rou, he would anger his most respected Master and Mistress, which was why he hadn't made any extra moves.

Today, just because Sun Ning was leaving Beijing, the two of them were afraid of losing each other and regretting it, which led to this affectionate moment.

Hearing Shang Rou's passionate confession, what else did Sun Ning need to say? He pulled Shang Rou into a tight embrace and kissed her. His hands grew firmer, wishing he could merge Shang Rou into his very marrow. He only stopped when Shang Rou couldn't breathe and protested with loud whimpers.

"Senior Sister, Sun Ning really wants to turn you into my blood, my flesh, and my marrow."

"Let us never be separated for a lifetime."

"Sun Ning, take me."

When emotions were at their peak, there was no need for too many words. And so, it was a sleepless night.

The next day, Sun Ning got up early to exercise as usual. In this life, ever since his rebirth, he had paid attention to physical exercise to avoid the accidents of his past life. By the time he returned and finished showering, Shang Rou had also woken up.

Seeing Sun Ning fresh out of the shower, she couldn't help but throw herself into his arms. Her legs wrapped around Sun Ning's waist. The most critical part was that Shang Rou was wearing Sun Ning's shirt. Those "assets" of hers actually managed to stretch Sun Ning's shirt to the point where the buttons were restless. What man waking up in the morning could handle such temptation?

However, Shang Rou had been severely injured last night, so Sun Ning didn't dare to make any other moves. He could only warn Shang Rou resentfully: "Sister Rou, be careful or I'll get worked up and you'll be the one to pay the price!"

This sentence came through Sun Ning's gritted teeth. It indirectly showed just how frustrated he was at that moment.

Shang Rou was startled and quickly retreated to cover herself with the quilt. "You... don't come over here, I'm hurting all over right now."

"You... you get out."

Sun Ning gave Shang Rou an ambiguous smile and teased, "I'll let you off for now." He closed the door behind him and went to prepare breakfast. Before long, Shang Rou came out after washing up. She was still wearing that same white shirt, which remained incredibly tempting.

"Senior Sister, come over and have breakfast. I made Five-Red Soup; it's good for nourishing your energy and blood."

"Damn you, Sun Ning, go to hell."

Sun Ning's teasing words caused Shang Rou to break her composure. How could someone be so bad? He was truly wicked to the bone. Time passed quickly amidst their flirtatious banter. After changing her clothes and sitting at the dining table, Shang Rou said abruptly, "Sun Ning, I've made up my mind. I'll go to Hong Kong in a few days."

"Be good, let's not go. You can earn money in the mainland just the same."

Although the two couldn't exactly be called newlyweds, they were deeply in the throes of passionate love. Sun Ning wouldn't let Shang Rou go to Hong Kong. He hadn't had enough of her yet. Right now, he wished he could keep her attached to his belt.

Besides, as a man with grand ambitions, Sun Ning wouldn't let Shang Rou move her household registration to Hong Kong. This wasn't regional discrimination, but a difference in political systems. When one reaches a certain position, a husband and wife are a single entity. If the wife's household registration is in a place that operates under a different system, who could that be hidden from? These would all be leverage left for future political enemies.

However, if Shang Rou didn't move her registration, her physical presence there wouldn't be of much use. The people there were spoiled for certain well-known reasons. They stuck together and were xenophobic; it certainly wouldn't be easy for Shang Rou to take root alone. It was still the beginning of the new century, not after 2019.

"Sun Ning, listen to me."

"I know you want me to go to Hong Kong to set up a base in the United States, and our company in the mainland is indeed detrimental to your development."

"We will go to the United States stock market and focus on earning dollars."

"Using the United States' money to invest in technology to develop industry—this is the path you've always wanted to take."

"If I stay in Beijing, or even go to Heyang, there are too many restrictions. Those people abroad won't sell us technology."

"I want to be able to help you in the future."

Sun Ning fell silent after hearing this. Shang Rou was right; letting her develop in Hong Kong was an important turning point for Sun Ning to build his business empire. Only by going to Hong Kong could Sun Ning feel at ease letting Shang Rou go all out. If Sun Ning wanted to develop in politics, his foundation had to be stable. Some things could not be touched, even though the shareholder's name was his father's. When he held a low position, anything was fine. Once he reached a certain position, these things would become deductions. Which of the top leaders was easy to fool? This was the reason why Sun Ning chose to discuss it with Shang Rou after deciding to leave Beijing.
