5: Death is not just the end of life!

"Teacher, please don't scare me!" Jiang Luo lunged forward, his hands trembling frantically as he tried to check Lin Yan's breathing, but his fingertips shook so violently that he could barely touch the faint stream of air.

Lin Yan's eyelids struggled to flutter. His murky eyes reflected Jiang Luo's flushed face. The corners of his mouth seemed to try to pull into a smile, but only a faint, airy sound escaped: "Good... good disciple..."

"Teacher, your disciple has not yet been able to take you away from this place of trouble. You must hold on!"

Jiang Luo tried to climb up, but his wrist was tightly gripped by Lin Yan's withered hand. The strength was as weak as a feather, yet it held him motionless.

"Don't..." Lin Yan's voice was so light it seemed it would be scattered by the wind. "Listen to me... Being able to take you as a disciple is my pride. In the future, when I am gone, remember to take good care of yourself."

"Teacher—!!" Jiang Luo's tears fell onto the back of Lin Yan's hand, but the scalding teardrops could not warm that cold patch.

Lin Yan's hand slowly fell. The last look he gave him held both gratification and relief, before it completely lost its luster.

"Teacher—!!!"

The heart-wrenching cry hit the wall, but could no longer summon an answer.

Lin Yan, fallen!

Jiang Luo's gaze was dull. Feeling the body in his hands gradually growing cold, he still found it hard to accept this outcome.

Although Lin Yan had been his teacher for only a short six days, in those six days, Lin Yan could be said to have held nothing back, teaching him all his skills without reservation.

He had long treated Lin Yan as his own father. Now that his teacher had left him, he would have no more kin in this foreign land.

"Teacher, rest assured, your disciple will avenge you!"

Jiang Luo stepped forward to tidy up his teacher's appearance, his gaze carrying a hint of sternness.

"Amethyst Winged Lion King, Old Dog Yun Shan, neither of you will escape!"

After burying his teacher in the cliff cave, Jiang Luo was in no rush to seek revenge against the Amethyst Winged Lion King immediately.

At this moment, he had only just advanced to Dou Huang. The Amethyst Winged Lion King's strength was at least at the three-star Dou Huang level. He had the fire qilin flying template, so surpassing the Amethyst Winged Lion King would take no more than a day.

...

"Finally here. I hope the things inside won't disappoint me." Xiao Yan rubbed his hands, his eyes filled with a hint of anticipation.

He walked into the cave first.

Looking at the pitch-black cave, Xiao Yi Xian hesitated for a moment. A moment later, she stomped her foot, bit her silver teeth, and followed.

She had discovered this cave first, so she couldn't let Xiao Yan get the better of it.

Coincidentally, Xiao Yan had come to the Magical Beast Mountain Range for training. He met Xiao Yi Xian on the way, and the two hit it off, immediately coming here together to hunt for treasure.

However, when they walked inside the cave, what rushed towards them was not the expected dampness of being sealed away for ages, but rather a faint trace of Life Qi.

"Why do I feel like someone has been here?" Xiao Yan's internal alarm bells rang loudly.

"What, are you afraid someone will jump out from inside?" The teasing voice of Yao Lao rang in Xiao Yan's ear.

Being looked down upon by his teacher, Xiao Yan's face darkened. He would absolutely not admit that he was afraid.

"Rest assured, although it is unusual inside, after my Divine Sense investigation, this is a graveyard and there are no living people, unless that corpse comes back to life... At the critical moment, I will naturally take action."

Although one couldn't rule out the possibility of there being a zombie inside, Yao Lao was, after all, a person who had seen the world; how could he be scared by a mere corpse?

"I hope so." Xiao Yan gathered his courage and continued forward.

Both of them were on edge, constantly wary of sudden danger, but fortunately, until they reached the end of the cave, they encountered no danger.

At the end of the cave, what came into view was a huge stone chamber. The stone chamber looked somewhat simple and empty.

"It really is a tomb chamber. Judging by the structure of this stone chamber, it has at least a thousand years of history!" Yao Lao analyzed confidently.

A thousand-year-old tomb!

Xiao Yan couldn't help but be shocked. This ordinary-looking tomb actually had a thousand years of history. Didn't that mean the treasures inside would be extremely precious?

After all, things that could be passed down for a thousand years would surely not be ordinary items.

Xiao Yan's heart immediately became hot with anticipation.

However, when he shifted his gaze to the center of the stone chamber, his eyelids couldn't help but twitch.

A thousand-year-old zombie, it wouldn't jump out, would it?

"Xiao Yan, why do I feel like this stone coffin looks newly built?" Xiao Yi Xian looked at the stone coffin in the distance, feeling a chill run through her entire body.

"That can't be, right?" Xiao Yan barely managed to squeeze a smile onto his face.

Because they were far away, they could not see the corpse in the stone coffin.

"Then you go over and take a look, see if that person just died." Xiao Yi Xian pushed him forward.

"You want me to go alone?" Xiao Yan's expression changed.

"You're a big man and you won't go, do you expect me, a weak woman, to go?" Xiao Yi Xian's willow brows furrowed slightly.

"Fine." Xiao Yan knew he couldn't win the argument, so he simply braced his courage and went over to investigate.

"A fresh corpse!"

When he got close, he looked up. Inside the stone coffin lay a withered old man, who looked like he had died just recently.

Xiao Yan's face immediately became extremely ugly. This was not some thousand-year-old tomb; they had all been deceived!

Facing this result, Xiao Yi Xian's pretty face also changed.

A tomb burying a freshly dead corpse meant that someone had arrived here a step before them.

"Teacher, do you think that person might be nearby?"

Disturbing someone's elder—if they were discovered, wouldn't they be treated as a tomb-robbing gang? They would probably be in big trouble then.

"I can sense a trace of Life Qi in the air." Yao Lao let out a soft exclamation, lost in thought.

Xiao Yan was almost scared enough to turn and run, as if he had done something wrong.

Yao Lao was quite helpless regarding his behavior. "With me here, you can set your heart at ease. Even if we are discovered, I can safely take you back."

Having received his teacher's assurance, Xiao Yan breathed a sigh of relief. Even if the person who came was a Dou Huang expert, he could fight them.

"Tomb of Lin Yan!"

Leaving the stone coffin, Xiao Yan looked at the four large characters on the tombstone and couldn't help but click his tongue in secret.

"Teacher, do you know what this person's strength was when he was alive?"

Being able to be buried here, the person's background was likely not small.

"Judging from the aura emanating from the corpse, this person was likely a Peak Dou Huang expert when he was alive, but he died from his injuries because he was severely wounded!"

Peak Dou Huang!

To be able to severely wound a Peak Dou Huang expert, wouldn't that person's strength have to be a Dou Zong?

Since when did the entire Jia Ma Empire have a Dou Zong?

Xiao Yan clicked his tongue. The Jia Ma Empire actually had a Dou Zong; he was truly ignorant.

It was just a pity that such an expert had fallen here.

However, this did let him witness the cruelty of the Fighting Qi Continent.

A Peak Dou Huang expert just croaks like that.

"This level is not something you can come into contact with yet. If you have time, you might as well look around to see if there are any valuable burial objects."

Yao Lao's voice also pulled Xiao Yan back to reality.

Dou Huang was too far away from him. With this spare time, it would be better to consider how to raise his cultivation.

After all, the Three-Year Agreement was still waiting for him.
