Chapter 29: Done Deal
Chapter 29: Done DealCamila’s hand trembled as she held the file. She tried to keep her expression neutral, but the effort was futile.with every line she read, her composure cracked further, her knuckles whitening around the edge of the paper.
Ethan, on the other hand, leaned back, enjoying her reaction. He was unsure about the terms at first but now he was sure of it, that was exactly the lifeline Camila needed right now.
Written in the file was just two simple clauses that he was ready to be negotiated but it seemed they were the perfect two clauses.
Clause one stated that Drake Systems’ infrastructure would be full acquired by OmniTech Corp. That included every liability, within two days of acquisition.
This meant that whatever Drake systems was owing Avance, would be handled by OmniTech.
Camila’s breath hitched.
The weight she’d been dragging behind her for months, causing her sleepless nights, would be lifted just like that.
But it was the second clause that fully shattered her composure.
Clause two stated that she would remain as the Director of Operations for the newly acquired infrastructure, with full managerial control and a guaranteed five-year contract under OmniTech Corp.
When Drake Systems was first put up for sale, Camila had resigned herself to walking away completely. She thought she would sign the papers, hand over the keys, and disappear from the tech world—bitter, broke, and forgotten.
That was honestly why she’d turned down so many offers.
Most buyers just wanted the infrastructure or it’s location since it was predicted to be the next prime real estate location.
No one cared about the years she poured into building it, or the sacrifices she made keeping it alive when the debts started stacking up. They saw value in the metal, not in her.
But this?
This was completely out of her expectations.
Camila stared at him, still unsure if this was all just a big prank. "You know, you could hired a whole new team and started fresh. You know that, right?"
She waited for Ethan to chuckle, withdraw the file, and reveal his real offer—the one that would expose his true intentions and give her a reason to kick him out like the others.
But—
"I do." He nodded.
"Then... why?" she asked again, her eyes narrowing now, searching his expression. "What do you hope to gain by making an offer that holds no advantage for you?"
Ethan didn’t answer immediately.
He simply leaned back in his chair, the faintest smile appearing his lips.
"Let’s just say," he said slowly, "I believe in backing the right people."
It was a lie, well, not entirely. Camila was brilliant, a fact proven by how well Drake Systems was trusted. But the real reason was more of a strategic decision.
She knew both the network and the systems. More importantly, she had the loyalty of the remaining staff, people neither Ethan nor Lillian had time to vet or train from scratch.
Especially with so little time he had left.
Keeping her in charge meant a seamless transition. It meant Sentinel would be on perfect track for launch.
Camila watched him closely before sighing. No matter how she looked at it, the offer looked like one that only someone naive could make.
But Ethan looked anything but.
"If you need time to think —" before Ethan could complete his words, Camila had already reached for the pen.
Ethan paused mid-sentence as she uncapped it with a soft click, before bringing it close to the paper.
This was an opportunity she was sure wouldn’t come again.
Without the slightest bit of hesitation, she signed her name on the file.
When the pen left the paper, she stared at her name for a long moment, almost disbelieving she’d written it.
Ethan gave a small, approving nod before he simply closed the file slowly and placed it back in his bag.
"I’ll have the legal team send the finalized documents today. Transition starts tomorrow," he said as he stood. "Welcome to OmniTech."
The legal team was one of the few departments Lillian had already finalized.
She’d handpicked a small group of sharp, no-nonsense contract lawyers during her first week.
They were people she’d personally vetted, interviewed, and negotiated with based on her instincts.
Ethan hadn’t questioned her choices. In fact, he trusted Lillian’s instincts in that area more than his own—after all, in the future, she was known as Midas for a reason.
Camila nodded, her mind still slightly dazed from how fast everything just moved.
Normally, she’d have taken a day or two to think through a decision of this scale, maybe even consulted her team.
But for a reason unknown, she decided to trust the kid and in turn, this OmniTech Corp he worked for.
Ethan extended a hand, before saying, " once again, welcome to OmniTech Corp."
Camila hesitated for a moment before extending her hand, clasping his. "Well, here’s hoping I don’t make you regret it this offer."
"I’m counting on it," Ethan replied, before releasing her hand and turning toward the door.
But before he could step out the door, he heard Camila’s whisper.
"...Thanks."
Turning his head lightly, Ethan gave her a light smile. "Don’t thank me yet."
And with that, he stepped out into the morning sun, letting the door close softly behind him.
"That went a lot better than I expected," Ethan muttered to himself before walking to his car, all that was left to do now was finalize the deal and port Sentinel to the servers before launch.
Sliding into the driver’s seat, Ethan took out his phone, ready to inform Lillian about the server acquisition when it suddenly let out a ding.
Instead of a message, it was an alert he setup incase Google tried messing with Sentinel’s demo.
Although, the alert came in a lot earlier than he expected. He expected them to take at least two weeks before they tried replicating Sentinel.
Well, given its capabilities, it didn’t come as much of a surprise.
With a smile, he opened CryptCall and sent an animated sticker to Amelia.
Childish as it was, he knew she would figure that he saw what they were up to.
With a mischievous smile, he closed the app and opened his contact list, calling Lillian.
Meanwhile Camila stood in the kitchen, still watching the door. Not once had she actually expected to sell her company when she just started it, but at least this was better than just handing it to Avance.
She moved back toward the living room and began stacking the scattered folders into a neat pile.
Her phone suddenly rang and lit up with the name, Lana.
"Well, let’s see what she has to say for herself."
