Chapter 185 The employees didn't curse me to die, but instead wished me wealth.
This was the first time Ling Yue had come to the Company since the Company incident ended.
Last time, the place was still empty and cold.
In just two months, all the soft furnishings were in place, and all rooms and equipment were in use.
As soon as she stepped through the Company doors, a wave of cool air instantly dissipated the heat clinging to her skin; the comfortable temperature left Ling Yue very satisfied.
She took a deep breath, smelling the aroma of coffee wafting from the drink station in the atrium.
She saw people working in the reading room, with snacks and iced Americanos by their sides.
Someone was moving through the open-plan office area with a laptop, seemingly having encountered a problem; the group of people he had gathered were all huddling around the screen to analyze data.
Someone was sitting in the lounge area near the drink station, rotating a neck stiffened from long hours of looking down while doing chest expansions to soothe back discomfort.
Others were shooting hoops in the recreation room, brows furrowed—unsure if they were worried about the score or pondering a problem that troubled them.
She also saw someone walking in the back garden while on the phone, making occasional small gestures as if arguing a point with someone.
Everyone was busy with their own tasks; compared to her first visit, the place felt much more alive.
The Company was surrounded by greenery inside and out, a scene full of vitality.
“President Ling?!”
Among the hundred or so people in the Company, those who recognized her could be counted on one hand.
Ling Yue turned back to look at the person who called her and recognized her immediately. “You're that little sister from the front desk.”
“It's me, President Ling. I'm so sorry! The message I received said you were coming at three, and it's only two now, so we went to the garden to tidy up the lawn. Um... the cleaning lady is on leave today, so we were helping out where we could. That's why there was no one at the front desk to receive you. It won't happen again!” she explained in a panic.
Ling Yue glanced at the ID badge on her chest. “Wu... Lian, don't be nervous. I don't bite.
Just do what you need to do. Relax a bit; I'm just looking around.”
Wu Lian quietly let out a breath. “President Zeng said to notify her as soon as you arrived, so...”
Ling Yue interjected, “I'll go find her myself in a bit.”
After saying that, she paused. “Where is her office again?”
“On the second floor to the left, the third room from the end is President Zeng's office.” Wu Lian pointed upstairs.
Ling Yue made an 'OK' gesture and turned into the first-floor lounge.
She entered the room, and before long, a series of sighs of relief sounded outside.
“So she's President Ling? Our Company's only boss?” Receptionist B was full of curiosity.
Receptionist D said, “She's really pretty.”
Wu Lian's heart swelled with pride, feeling the satisfaction of someone whose recommendation was finally appreciated. “Isn't she stunning!”
Receptionist C clicked her tongue. “Sister Wu, I was wrong. At first, I thought you were just sucking up to the boss when you praised her in front of us.” She looked excited. “I never expected she'd really be this young! Beautiful and rich—where's the justice?! God is definitely playing favorites.”
“She seems quite easy to talk to, not putting on airs as a boss. I thought I was going to get scolded, but she told us to relax. Sure enough, there are perks to having a young boss!” Receptionist D shared her thoughts.
Wu Lian pulled them along toward the restroom while continuing her pitch:
“When I first came for the interview, there was nothing here. There were only a few people in the Company; it was almost starting from zero.
Back then, as a receptionist, I did all sorts of odd jobs and sometimes worked overtime. President Ling saw how hard we were working and gave out a 100,000 yuan red envelope. I even got several thousand.”
“The boss has a conscience... But our Company's benefits really deserve a thumbs up. I hope the boss keeps making money so she can maintain these benefits!” Receptionist B secretly hoped.
Receptionist C nodded in agreement. “Just the 800 yuan meal allowance, 500 yuan transportation allowance, 1,000 yuan housing allowance per month, the 18-month salary, and the highest-tier 'six insurances and two funds'—anyone who didn't know would think I'd joined a state-owned enterprise.
I don't even dare tell my relatives or friends how good the benefits are, for fear that some jealous person might ruin it for me.”
“What else is there to say? I wish the boss a fortune. Only if the boss has meat to eat will we have soup to drink,” Receptionist D said with sincere wishes.
They gradually walked away, their voices disappearing around the corner.
In the lounge, signs for silence and no food were posted on the door.
Ling Yue took a look around inside and found signs of use on the massage chairs and single beds, which meant the lounge was serving its purpose.
Zang Lanyi leaned against the doorframe with her arms crossed, head tilted, her ear toward the outside of the lounge.
When Ling Yue finished her walk around, she saw Zang Lanyi acting and looking like a 'thief.' “What are you doing?”
Zang Lanyi made a fist and pointed her thumb outside. “They're talking about you.”
“It's normal. When they see the big boss for the first time, they're bound to discuss a bit,” Ling Yue said dismissively.
Zang Lanyi winked and said, “Don't you want to know what they're saying?”
“A-Lan, I've noticed you've become quite the gossip lately,” Ling Yue teased her.
Zang Lanyi thought secretly, 'Like boss, like subordinate.'
But she remained stubborn. “Just say if you want to hear it or not.”
“If I say no, could you even hold it in?” Ling Yue looked at her with amusement.
Fine.
Couldn't hold it in.
Zang Lanyi admitted defeat and recounted what Wu Lian and the others had been discussing to Ling Yue.
“Not bad. It shows I'm a pretty qualified boss. The employees didn't curse me to death but blessed me to get rich instead. That's great!”
Ling Yue thought back to her days of being a corporate slave.
When she worked overtime every day without pay, or when promised benefits vanished and the boss manipulated the staff, she had cursed the boss's entire family more than a few times.
Anyone who's been a corporate slave knows.
When employees wish for you to get rich, it means you're a very successful boss!
Oh my, Ling Yue's ego really swelled.
With a grand wave of her hand, she threw an arm around Zang Lanyi's shoulder. “I'm in a good mood. Come on, I'll buy you a drink.”
There were three staff members at the drink station, with a total of eighteen drink options ranging from cold to hot, and from coffee to milk.
“I'll have a Hand-Smashed Lemon Green Tea.” After ordering hers, Ling Yue looked at Zang Lanyi. “What about you?”
Caught in a similar state of confusion as Zang Lanyi were the three staff members at the drink station.
Wait, who is this?
Is she new?
I didn't see HR bring her around for an introduction.
“I'll have a Mango Shaved Ice Cream, please. Thanks.” Zang Lanyi finally made her choice.
The three staff members exchanged looks, thinking she might be a client.
They quietly prepared the two drinks.
Eating and drinking along the way, they arrived at the second floor.
Compared to the relaxed atmosphere on the first floor, the second floor was much busier.
Everyone had work in their hands; the arrival of strangers didn't even make them look up.
Zeng Ru had just finished a meeting and noticed it was already 2:40.
She had just stepped out of the conference room with her phone, preparing to go downstairs to greet Ling Yue.
To her surprise, she saw a familiar face wandering the hallway with hands in pockets as soon as she stepped out.
“President Ling.” Zeng Ru stepped forward and caught sight of the drink in Ling Yue's hand. “I'm sorry, I was in a meeting. Why didn't you have someone notify me when you arrived?”
“The Company is all set up, and it's my first time here, so I'm just looking around,” Ling Yue replied.
Zeng Ru made a gesturing motion. “Your office is on the third floor. You probably haven't seen it yet, right? Shall I take you up to have a look?”
Oh right, she was someone with an office now!
Ling Yue became interested. “Let's go.”
