Chapter 68: One word, elegance
Ling Yue didn't take this little episode to heart.
Six o'clock in the afternoon.
The banquet began admitting guests; based on the principle of privacy, no media would be present.
The venue was the Qushui Hall.
The venue had been decorated to resemble a massive, dreamlike crystal palace.
Ling Yue wore a new Chinese-style blue and white strapless long dress. Her hair was loosely pinned up, blooming like a flower at the back of her head, with a few strands hanging down, hinting at a hazy beauty when caught by a breeze. Paired with rounded pearl earrings on both sides, it outlined the graceful lines of her neck.
Her temperament was graceful.
One word: Elegant.
Ling Yue was a new brand client, so logically, her seat should have been further back.
However, she was also a VVIP client of Dali Group, to which Hangzhou Mansion belonged, so Dali Fandi naturally treated her as an honored guest.
Considering this relationship, the organizers moved Ling Yue's seat forward.
She arrived beside the regional president of Dali Group, seated at the main table, directly facing General Manager Zhang Ya, the president of Chaumet's Greater China region, as well as Chaumet headquarters staff and designers.
It was a seat for distinguished guests.
This seat adjustment was clearly worthwhile. The astonishing financial power Ling Yue displayed at this high jewelry exhibition, while not obvious on the surface, actually made her a member of the brand's top client list, and her ranking on this list was even among the best.
It meant that...
From now on, whenever Chaumet held any banquet or jewelry show, Ling Yue would be a guest of honor among guests of honor.
Not to mention a mere main seat at a city exhibition, even if she went to Chaumet headquarters to attend a banquet, she would have to sit at the main table.
A middle-aged man, nearly sixty, with graying temples but an imposing manner, personally pulled out the chair for Ling Yue.
"Hello, Ms. Ling. I am Zheng Sen, the regional president of Dali Group in Hangzhou." After settling Ling Yue in, he slowly sat down beside her and began to chat with her casually, "Are you accustomed to the upgraded suite, Ms. Ling?"
Ling Yue brushed the stray hair from her forehead, "It's very nice. Do you know which brand the table in the tea room is from?"
The table in the back garden where she kept plant nutrients wasn't very good-looking, and Ling Yue wanted to buy one to replace it.
"Does Ms. Ling like it?" Zheng Sen asked with a smile.
Ling Yue nodded.
The corners of Zheng Sen's mouth lifted slightly, "I will have my assistant send you the information later."
"Thank you."
Zheng Sen had come on official business; everyone present was a potential client, and it was necessary to build good relationships.
After chatting with Ling Yue for a few moments, he went to find others.
At this time, a few appetizers were served. The portions were very small, almost only a mouthful each.
Ling Yue noticed that her food was different from everyone else's.
The manager who served the meal took the initiative to explain, "We heard that you are unwell, so your food has been specially prepared by the head chef. The ingredients are gentle, so please feel free to eat."
How thoughtful.
"Thank you." Ling Yue smiled and nodded at him.
The manager bowed with one hand behind his back and the other placed below the second button of his suit, then slowly retreated.
She was just feeling a bit hungry.
Ling Yue finished the appetizers in a few bites.
The food was warm, mild in flavor, crispy in texture, and tasted average.
The orchestra's music suddenly paused and then switched to a more grand piece.
Ling Yue saw the people opposite her standing up one after another.
General Manager Zhang Ya personally led the staff and celebrities to toast the people at the main table one by one, and soon she arrived in front of Ling Yue.
"This is Ms. Ling."
Ling Yue also noticed that her introduction had no prefix.
When introducing others, they would always add something like, 'This is the president of such-and-such group'.
After General Manager Zhang Ya finished speaking, the line of people behind her all crowded around Ling Yue, raising their glasses to her.
"Hello, Ms. Ling, my name is He Xin. It is a pleasure to meet you." The person speaking was a household-name, A-list, long-running film and television star!
It was estimated that everyone from the elderly in their seventies and eighties to ten-year-old children knew her name.
She was ten thousand times better-looking in person than on the big screen!
The white one-shoulder slim-fitting evening gown elevated He Xin's temperament even further, and her light makeup highlighted her superior bone structure.
Even if all the lights in the world went out, she would still stand above the crowd, shining and bright!
Previously, people always attacked her for being fat.
In reality, she was incredibly thin; she was truly a great beauty with temperament!
Ling Yue didn't chase celebrities, but she quite liked He Xin.
She picked up her champagne glass filled with warm water.
Clink—
The two glasses touched with a pleasant, crisp sound.
Afterward, several other celebrities whom Ling Yue recognized and could name came over to introduce themselves.
She had been bored recently and had binged-watched many TV series, in which they had appeared.
They must be quite popular.
Ling Yue muttered to herself, but outwardly she smiled and responded to each of them.
After the toasts, General Manager Zhang Ya gave a short speech.
Afterward, it was the atmosphere-friendly eating segment.
Looking around, only a small number of people were eating; most were socializing.
Ling Yue had just put the only piece of beef on her plate into her mouth when He Xin walked up to her side.
"Ms. Ling, I would like to toast you." She said with a polite and appropriate smile.
The flickering candlelight reflected in her ink-black, deep eyes, casting a soft glow over her.
Being in the entertainment industry, she worked diligently at acting and never participated in any variety shows; fans and audiences said she was aloof.
Only she knew that it was precisely because she had ambition that she cherished her reputation and would not easily risk mistakes.
Just now, she had clearly noticed the goodwill Ling Yue had shown toward her.
She had entered the entertainment industry at the age of ten and had been struggling in it for twenty-five years.
She was too good at reading people.
She could distinguish between affection for 'objects' or 'tools'.
And what was pure appreciation.
Ling Yue was clearly the latter.
Ling Yue took a sip of warm water.
She suddenly remembered a TV series that He Xin had finished airing a while ago, "I really liked 'The Envoy of Nanan', which you acted in, Ms. He. It was courageous and resourceful, and you brought out the core of the character."
"This was my first drama since switching to long-form series." One could hear her satisfaction with herself in He Xin's words.
The recent winter in the film and television industry had affected her greatly; it wasn't that no one was asking her to act, but rather that there were basically no good film scripts.
She had to switch to TV dramas.
As soon as the news was released, hundreds of scripts piled up on her desk, and 'The Envoy of Nanan' was the only one that interested her.
Low pay? It didn't matter, she acted in it anyway!
The broadcast results were indeed a huge hit that transcended circles, taking the dual crown of television stations and platforms.
It even climbed to third place on the platform's annual chart. Even if one pulled out the data for all the hit film and television dramas of the last three years, not a single one could compete with 'The Envoy of Nanan'.
The success of the long-form drama meant that her new career path had been established.
Ling Yue suddenly remembered something, "Ms. He, could you give me an autograph?"
Zheng Sen raised an eyebrow and laughed on the side, "Ms. Ling also likes Ms. He's work?"
"Yes." Ling Yue nodded.
When she was a child, she often watched the movie channel with Ling Guofu. Some classic movies were played back and forth dozens of times, and she could say she grew up watching He Xin's movies.
He Xin was flattered, "It is an honor to have Ms. Ling's appreciation. I have some posters and postcards in my car, and I will arrange for my assistant to deliver them to your room later."
Zheng Sen took a sip of champagne, lost in thought.
As a celebrity, He Xin had reached the top tier.
She had great international fame, high commercial value, and was easy to get along with.
The key was that Ling Yue liked her.
Ling Yue's spending power was surprisingly impressive, exceeding his expectations.
If the company's annual gala could invite He Xin, there was a high probability that Ling Yue would attend.
He needed to note down the preferences of this VVIP, Ling Yue, and report them, along with her substantial financial resources, to his superiors.
