4: Chapter 4: The Secrets of a Wealthy Family - The Perfect Buyer Takes the Bait!
Closing his laptop, Lin Zhe drank the rest of his coffee in one gulp.
He left, hailed a ride-sharing car, and headed straight for Wutong Mountain.
Half an hour later, the car was stopped halfway up the mountain.
The driver turned his head, his expression somewhat apologetic.
"Buddy, the area up there is private property. Cars with our license plates aren't allowed in. You'll have to get off here."
Lin Zhe pushed the car door open, his feet hitting the asphalt road.
Not far away was the gate to Aokang Sanatorium.
The black wrought-iron gate was tightly shut, flanked by walls over three meters high topped with electric fencing.
Four security guards in black suits stood at the entrance, standing straight and wearing earpieces; they looked even more professional than bank security escorts.
Lin Zhe looked at the security guards from over twenty meters away.
Words were floating above all four of their heads.
[Retired Special Forces Soldier] [Monthly Salary of 30,000] [Mortgage Slave] [Combat Mastery]
Lin Zhe withdrew his gaze, abandoning any plans to force his way in or pretend to sneak in.
The opponents were retired special forces soldiers; trying to force it would definitely result in him being pinned to the ground and crushed.
He walked to a large banyan tree opposite the gate, where he could clearly see every car entering and leaving.
Wait.
It was a clumsy method, but it was the only one he had for now.
The passive trait [Composed in Danger] began to take effect.
In the past, squatting by the roadside on such a hot afternoon would have made him restless within ten minutes.
But now, he felt his mind was clearer than ever, and his patience was surprisingly good.
A black Maybach drove up from the foot of the mountain and slowly stopped in front of the iron gate.
The car window rolled down, and the driver handed over a black card.
The security guard took it, swiped it, and the iron gate slowly slid open to both sides.
Lin Zhe stared at the rear window; the glass was covered with privacy film, so he couldn't see anything.
But he could see the traits.
Behind that privacy glass, several lines of bright red text were floating.
[Terminal Stomach Cancer] [Agonizing Pain] [Assets of 8 Billion] [Countdown: 32 Days]
Lin Zhe's breath hitched.
Assets of 8 billion, with only thirty-two days left to live.
This was absolutely an excellent buyer.
But he couldn't reach the person in the car at all. The Maybach had no intention of stopping and drove straight in, the iron gate slamming shut behind it.
In the hour or so that followed, several more cars entered.
A Mercedes G-Wagon, a Rolls-Royce Phantom, and a Porsche Panamera.
The people inside the cars were either wealthy or noble.
Some were here for treatment, others were here to visit patients.
The traits varied widely.
[Excessive Indulgence], [Family Outcast], [Illegitimate Daughter], [Married in Name Only].
Lin Zhe absorbed all these secret pieces of information that ordinary people could never access, his brain working at high speed to filter for usable targets.
He waited until five in the afternoon.
The sun was about to set, and the wind in the mountains brought a chill.
A red ferrari sped up from the foot of the mountain and, accompanied by the screech of brakes, stopped in front of the sanatorium gate.
The car door was shoved open, and a young woman wearing a black silk shirt and high-end tailored trousers stepped out in high heels.
She walked very hurriedly, not even closing the car door.
The security guards immediately went up to greet her.
"Miss Shen."
The woman ignored the security guards completely, pulled her phone from her bag, and dialed a number.
Lin Zhe stood across the road, a distance away, his gaze locked firmly on the top of the woman's head.
This was the longest and most complex string of traits he had seen all afternoon.
[Shen Nianwei] [Appearance: 95] [Granddaughter of Jiangcheng's Richest Man] [Group Vice President] [Severe Anxiety] [Extremely Filial] [Facing a Family Coup]
And at the very top of this string of traits, a glaring red label flickered.
[Close Relative Critically Ill (Her grandfather's vital signs are rapidly declining, survival probability is less than 1%)].
The target had appeared, and it was a perfect target.
A person in a desperate situation who held billions in assets, was extremely filial, and was facing the dual pressures of her grandfather's impending death and a family coup.
Beside the ferrari, Shen Nianwei shouted into the phone.
"What do you mean you did your best? I pour 200 million into your medical team every year, and now you tell me you did your best?"
She didn't know what was said on the other end of the line, but Shen Nianwei slammed her phone onto the ground, and the screen shattered instantly.
She covered her face with her hands, her shoulders trembling violently as she squatted beside the ferrari.
The security guards looked at each other, none daring to step forward to dissuade her.
One of the security guards ran over and picked up the phone, which was still in a call.
"Miss Shen, Dean Chen says... the Chairman is fading, and he wants you to go in quickly to see him one last time."
Shen Nianwei looked up abruptly, her eyes bloodshot.
She snatched the phone and stumbled toward the iron gate.
This was it.
Lin Zhe didn't hesitate at all; he strode across the road and headed straight for the sanatorium gate.
"Stop!"
The security guard who had picked up the phone immediately reached out to stop Lin Zhe.
"This is private property; unauthorized personnel are forbidden from entering."
Lin Zhe didn't look at him; his gaze passed through the iron gate, fixed on Shen Nianwei's back.
"Shen Nianwei!"
He raised his voice.
Shen Nianwei paused, but didn't turn back.
Her mind was currently filled only with her grandfather's condition, with no capacity to pay attention to a stranger's shouting.
The security guard grew anxious and took out his walkie-talkie to call for help.
"Get him away immediately!" Shen Nianwei scolded sharply.
She had no time to listen to the nonsense of some lunatic who had popped out of nowhere.
Two security guards immediately stepped forward, grabbing Lin Zhe's arms from left and right.
The strength of the retired special forces soldiers was immense; Lin Zhe's bones ached from their grip.
But he didn't struggle; he just stared at Shen Nianwei and spat out the last sentence.
"The doctors in this world cannot save him. But I can."
Shen Nianwei's body, which was about to turn back, froze.
This statement was simply too absurd.
But at this critical juncture, it became the only straw to clutch at.
She strode back, her high heels making sharp, rapid sounds on the ground.
Walking up to the iron gate, she looked Lin Zhe up and down through the waist-high railing.
A washed-out shirt, ordinary jeans—he looked exactly like a just-unemployed wage slave.
"Do you know what kind of place this is? Coming here to swindle and deceive." Shen Nianwei suppressed her anger, appearing extremely irritable.
Lin Zhe stood in place, allowing the security guards to shove him, speaking rapidly.
"Your grandfather could stop breathing at any moment. And you are facing a family coup; once your grandfather dies, his life's work will be handed over to others."
Shen Nianwei turned around abruptly.
This time, she was truly shocked.
The news of her grandfather's critical condition was known by fewer than five people in all of Jiangcheng.
The family coup was a conflict that had only erupted within the board of directors this morning; there was absolutely no possibility of it leaking.
How did this shabbily dressed man know about it?
"Let him go." Shen Nianwei ordered the security guards.
The security guards hesitated for a moment.
"Miss, this person's background is unknown..."
"I said, let him go!"
The two security guards immediately let go and stepped aside.
Shen Nianwei walked up to Lin Zhe, staring at him through the iron gate.
"Who exactly are you?"
Lin Zhe stretched his shoulders, which had been pinched sore.
"Someone who can make a deal."
"What kind of deal can you make?" Shen Nianwei pressed.
Lin Zhe looked at the red trait constantly flickering above her head.
[Close Relative Critically Ill (Countdown: 7 Minutes)]
Time was running out.
He raised his hand and pointed to the white building on the mountainside, partially hidden by green trees.
"I can extend your grandfather's life by ten years."
