Chapter 372 - 372 Avery’s Parents in Danger (2)

To further prove that what he said was true, Urs removed the two "officers'" uniforms and took everything on their persons.Underneath they were wearing formfitting combat suits that were clearly not standard issue, and they had items in their possession that no Alliance Police officer would carry around.

"I just finished scanning the badges that they had on them. They're definitely fakes." Urs said, showing his terminal to Avery's parents where two pictures that were clearly of different people than the ones present were displayed.

"But if they're not members of the police, how did they get those uniforms and credentials?" Robert asked, confusion showing on his face with a hint of fear.

"Well, there are plenty of ways, but I'm guessing they used the mayhem of what's going on to ambush a pair of officers for the purpose of creating this ruse. I'm pretty sure that the moment they were certain you wouldn't be able to resist, they were planning on using these on both of you."

Urs held in his hand two syringes that were filled with an ominous looking orange liquid.

From what he knew it was a type of drug that made people more compliant to the point of bordering on mind control. Anyone injected with the substance would find themselves following the orders of anyone.

"This stuff is highly illegal for many reasons, one of which is its nasty side effects. There's no way that they're part of the police."

Now that Urs was satisfied he had convinced Robert and Serena that the two people knocked out on the ground were imposters, he beckoned them to follow him.

"It's not going to take long before the group that they work for realizes that their plan has failed and become more aggressive. I also took a few of them down outside of the building, so it's possible that they're already beginning to escalate things. So, I need the two of you to follow and listen to everything that I say. I promise it's to keep you both safe." Urs said while glancing outside and making sure that the way was clear.

"Shouldn't we call the actual Alliance Police then. Surely, they'll respond immediately and help us, considering what has already happened." Serena said, motioning towards the two unconscious imposters.

"Normally I would be in agreement, but the police are frantically preparing for the mass of pirates that are attacking the system. Their all-hands-on-deck right now and won't have much manpower to spare. Also, these two didn't have the standard terminals that every officer is issued. I wouldn't be surprised if the people that are after you both have found a way to monitor incoming and outgoing transmissions to the police. So, they'll know what our plans are if we try asking the Police for help. That's something we can't afford, these people are very dangerous."

Serena also suggested that they could head towards the nearest station, but Urs shot that down as well.

He did not want to be cooped up somewhere that he did not have control.

It was likely that the organization after Avery's parents had even gone so far as to place people in the nearby police stations as contingencies. Currently that would be easy enough to do, all that any infiltrator needed to do was pretend to be a frightened citizen looking for shelter.

"I'm afraid that's too risky. I've heard from Avery that these people are more than willing to attack the Alliance Police. I would not be surprised if they were prepared to besiege a station just to get you two. They've invested too much into this already for them to go home empty-handed. Now we have to move. I've already prepared for something like this and have a strategy in mind. Urs said, having already finished checking that the escape route he had chosen out of the building was currently clear.

There was no more time for explanation, so he urged Avery's parents to get moving.

He understood that all of this would be overwhelming for normal people like them that had lived mostly simple lives. But their safety came first, so he planned to drag them along if it became necessary.

"Just one more thing, Urs. What those two said wasn't entirely a lie. There are people that are really after us because their trying to get revenge on our son." Robert said, wearing a stalwart expression.

"Yes, that's what's going on. Now come on, I'm not going to let a friend be abducted by a band of criminals. And I did promise my pupil that I'd look out for you both if something like this happened."

Though it was still difficult, both Robert and Serena accepted the situation that they were in.

Without any more hesitation, they both followed behind Urs as he led them towards the building's emergency exit.

However, when they reached the end of the hallway, Robert stopped for just a moment after having sorted out his jumbled thoughts.

"Urs, I don't want to just be protected. Do you have a weapon that you can spare me?"

Naturally, Urs was surprised by his friend's request. He knew that Robert had never held a weapon in his life, let alone fired one.

Still, he was not about to balk at someone's resolve to protect themselves.

"Yeah, I've got a few things. Here, this should be easy enough to use. Just aim and pull the trigger. Laser weapons don't take too much skill to hit things with. Just make sure not to shot me in the back."

From a holster at his side, Urs pulled out a smaller laser pistol and pressed a few buttons on it before handing it over to Robert.

It had been biometrically locked to only work for him, but now it was open for anyone to use. There was a slight possibility that this could be problematic later, but Urs did not think that something like that would occur. Their enemies had their own weapons after all, there would hardly be any need for them to take one from their targets.

"If it's not too much trouble. I'd like one as well Urs. I'm not going to let these people use me against my son." Serena said, a fierce determination in her eyes.

He did not quite like the implications of what she had said, but he could not deny that they were heavily outmatched here.

Just having the weapon on her was likely to cause some of their enemies to be more hesitant. People acted vastly differently when there was a possibility that they might be shot.

"I'm glad that I brought most of my armaments. I've got plenty of sidearms."

From a holster on his right ankle, Urs pulled out another laser pistol that was identical to the one that he had handed to Robert.

He had brought them as a precaution, but it was unlikely that he would have used either weapon anyway, so he found no problem handing them over. If a fight did break out, he planned on using weapons that were a lot stronger.

With Avery's parents now armed and ready, Urs led the way out of the building. Following a fairly complicated route that would not be easy for someone else to trace.

Eventually, they came to a window on the fourth floor that was located close to one of the building's corners.

This place gave them the most cover and was difficult to reach from the outside.

It was hardly a typical exit point, so Urs did not anticipate that anyone would be waiting for them there.

"As I've thought, they've covered all of the main entrances and exits already. Looks like they're even preparing a team to come in and sweep the building. Too bad for them, we'll already be gone by then." Urs mumbled to himself.

Hearing what he had said, Serena peeked at the device strapped to his left forearm and saw that it was a terminal that was displaying multiple camera angles around the building.

On it, several people were moving around, trying their best to look inconspicuous.

Still, their movements were clearly not those of average people, and sometimes quick flashes of their weapons would become visible. Adding more proof that they were up to no good.

After he had finished checking on the situation round them, Urs placed a small circular device on the window.

A second later, it broke into four parts and moved to the corners of the glass.

There was a flash of red light for only a moment, and then Urs easily pulled the now perfectly cut pane out.

"Shouldn't that have triggered the alarm?" Robert asked, confused how Urs had gotten away with destroying part of the building without consequence.

"Usually, it should have. I was even prepared to disable it myself, but there was no need to. The people after you two have already broken into the building's security and caused it to shut down by activating multiple intensive maintenance programs at once. They are a crafty bunch, but we're ahead of them right now, and I plan to keep it that way."
