282: Chapter 282 Weyland Will Win
The army had assembled at the starting point, a dark green torrent of steel spreading across the wasteland, vanishing into the night yet remaining immensely majestic.
According to the Company Commander, the Xenomorph Combat Group had already set out, and the deployment time for the other units was fast approaching. Drones took to the skies, forming a massive light curtain projection that allowed every soldier to clearly see the images displayed.
A man in a dark suit appeared on the light curtain. Despite his ordinary features, everyone grew excited; he was the god in their hearts.
The man looked over the assembly with eyes as sharp as an eagle's, finally curling his lips slightly to say, "My soldiers, crush them!"
"Verland shall prevail!"
"Verland shall prevail!!"
A world-shaking roar erupted as the shouts of hundreds of thousands of warriors converged, exploding across the wasteland.
Buck also raised his firearm and roared.
The army set out...
Various massive war machines were the first to enter the Mist. Buck and the others followed closely behind, moving forward with heads down. Vision was dark within the Mist, but with the infrared night-vision goggles of their armor, this minor difficulty was nothing to fear.
No one knew how much time had passed.
Buck saw a faint light ahead, but the dense sound of explosions also reached his ears. Moving from far to near, it indicated that the battlefield ahead was extremely intense.
Buck gripped his Gauss Rifle tightly, staying on high alert.
The moment he left the Mist, Buck found that the sky here was already bright. The earpiece, which had been silent for a long time, also broadcast the voice of the combat system.
[The enemy's artillery fire is fierce, and our advance is exceptionally difficult; we must first destroy their long-range firepower.]
Buck's Company received orders to eliminate the source of enemy firepower on the left flank.
On their way, the Company encountered a type of bio-monster they had never seen before. Not only did they carry long-range weapons, but even after more than half their bodies were shattered by a single hit, they could actually stand back up.
Buck felt a sense of dread toward this Company; these monsters were even more terrifying than the Xenomorphs.
After a fierce encounter, only half of the thousand-man Exoskeleton Armor Company remained.
Buck pulled himself together and continued forward.
Just then, the ground shook. This wasn't the vibration of an explosion, but the sound of something heavy running fast, as if a monster was rapidly approaching.
Buck looked through his armor's augmented vision system. Amidst the flames of war, a mountain-like silhouette was crossing the forest, expanding rapidly. This was a black behemoth that no known war machine or biological weapon could describe.
And its target was precisely Buck and his comrades.
"Quick, fire the Antimatter Missiles!" the Company Commander roared.
A pitch-black Antimatter Missile rose into the air and struck the behemoth's body with precision, white light exploding instantly.
Everyone in the Company held their breath, praying that this lethal weapon would succeed in completely annihilating the ferocious beast.
But as the white light dissipated and the smoke cleared, that mountain-like silhouette still stood in the center of the crater. Even more terrifyingly, its wounds were rapidly healing.
What kind of monster was this?
The heavily injured Venom went berserk. "Little bugs, you hurt me! I'm going to eat all your heads!"
With a single leap, this Level 6 monster possessed by Venom crossed a distance of over a thousand meters and slammed heavily into the midst of the remaining armor Company. Even though they wore armor, it was useless; many soldiers died agonizing deaths on the spot.
The slaughter began.
Half an hour later, the monster finally left. Its massive paws crushed the wreckage and scorched earth as it sprinted toward the main battlefield, leaving behind a scene of desolate purgatory.
The surroundings fell completely silent, with only sporadic flames crackling and the sizzling sound of short circuits within the armored wreckage. There was no longer any human voice, nor any sound of gunfire.
Buck was still alive.
But he was merely a dying body clinging to its last breath. He was wedged into a crack in the rock wall in a twisted posture, half his body pinned down by rubble and broken alloy armor, unable to move.
After several attempts, Buck gave up his struggle as if resigning himself to fate.
Buck looked at the sky with vacant eyes. I'm sorry, Rosalia, my wife. Please forgive me for not being able to pick another flower for you. And my child...
[The Fifth Aerospace Fleet has arrived.]
A voice that boosted the morale of the entire army came through the earpiece.
Buck smiled. In the last of his peripheral vision, he seemed to see a massive fleet emerging from the Mist.
Our fleet blots out the sun. Victory, after all, belongs to Verland...
On another battlefield.
Wisps of black smoke still rose from the scorched earth, which was covered in craters and soot. Scattered fragments of armor and dark red bloodstains were a shocking sight.
"Soldiers of Verland, we have won!!"
On this remote position, a middle-aged officer with a resolute face stood up and roared. The Exoskeleton Armor on his body was severely damaged, with some parts looking as if they had melted.
They had just endured a tragic battle. What was originally a large Company of over 2,000 people now had only a few hundred survivors. More figures lay fallen on this New World, never to stand again.
Fortunately, they were victorious and had completely annihilated the enemy forces.
Thinking of those enemies who were unafraid of death, the middle-aged officer felt only a lingering palpitation in his chest and a chill down his spine.
Their combat style was too strange—strange to the point of being hair-raising.
Those enemies didn't even have Exoskeleton Armor on them, yet they didn't roar, didn't hesitate, showed no instinct for survival, and didn't have the slightest trace of fear.
They would use the smallest casualties to trigger the most lethal offensives. Their tactical coordination was precise to the millimeter, and their formation penetrations were flawless. Every charge, every flanking maneuver, and every sacrificial kill seemed as if it had been precisely calculated.
Even if their limbs were broken and only half their bodies remained, they would use their last ounce of strength to pounce, attempting to use bombs to perish along with their opponents.
What was even stranger was their attire—gaudy and colorful strips of cloth wrapped haphazardly around them, with many wearing oddly shaped pendants and ornaments. They didn't look like a regular combat unit at all, but rather like savage natives roaming this New World.
But if that were all, it wouldn't have been enough to inflict such losses on the fully armed Verland Armor Company. The alloy layer of the Exoskeleton Armor was indestructible; ordinary firearms and cold blades couldn't even leave a scratch. Even if the opponents were unafraid of death, if they couldn't break the defense, no matter how many there were, it would just be a futile death, unable to harm the soldiers in the slightest.
But what the middle-aged officer never expected was that the Energy Weapons in their hands were actually armor-piercing tools that could easily tear through Exoskeleton Armor.
