63: Develop Songshan Town

With the rescue operation successfully concluded, Lin Zhi finally felt at ease leaving the command room and returning to the room he had been assigned within the Town Government building.

This room had once been the VIP reception room of the Town Government; its environment was much more spacious and comfortable compared to the areas assigned to the ordinary survivors.

As a grassroots administrative unit, the Town Government needed to undertake tasks such as receiving research visits from superior leaders, exchanges with sister units, and hosting external inspection teams. To meet the needs of formal reception, it might set up dedicated reception rooms or VIP rooms for brief meetings, rest, and so on. Such spaces were usually arranged in a tidy and standardized manner to adapt to official reception scenarios.

Standing at the window of the VIP room, Lin Zhi could almost see the entire night view of Songshan Town.

Although Songshan Town was currently desolate and lifeless in most places, having been baptized by gunfire and zombies.

Yet, looking at the town with its undulating buildings, Lin Zhi still felt a sense of holding great power.

The feeling of power was intoxicating, and even Lin Zhi was no exception. He was not exactly a person of noble character, after all.

It was just that even with the collapse of the world order and the vanishing of past rules, he still held onto his bottom line, maintaining the basic bottom line and moral standards of a human being.

Songshan Town was still silent as death, but after the sun rose as usual tomorrow, this place would gradually recover its vitality.

With unknown emotions in his heart, Lin Zhi slowly lay on the bed and fell into a deep sleep.

The next day arrived quickly. The sun had just broken through the clouds, and the golden morning glow spilled over this decaying land.

It was past seven in the morning when Lin Zhi gradually woke from his sleep. He put on his clothes and used wet wipes for a simple wash. Only then did Lin Zhi leave the room and head toward the command room.

The external rescue operation had ended. The legion began to restore its non-wartime order. Outside the main door of the command room, two fully armed soldiers stood guard.

Upon seeing Lin Zhi's figure appear in front of the command room door, the two guards immediately straightened their bodies and saluted Lin Zhi. "Greetings, Chief!"

Lin Zhi nodded upon hearing this and immediately spoke. "Go and bring Platoon Leader Chen Yuan and the others; I will wait for them in the office. The planning meeting for today will start promptly at eight."

"Understood." One soldier responded respectfully and immediately left the entrance of the command room.

Just a moment later, while Lin Zhi was in the room looking at the map of Songshan Town, the door to the command room was knocked. "Come in, the door isn't locked."

As Lin Zhi's voice fell, the command room door opened, and Platoon Leader Chen Yuan and a group of cadre members walked into the command room in an orderly fashion.

Before long, they were standing around the huge oval conference table in the command room. Only then did Lin Zhi wave his hand, signaling everyone to sit down.

"Alright, comrades. I called you here today to discuss the development plan for the Songshan Town survivor stronghold."

"There are three main tasks for today. First, clean up the zombie corpses. If dead animals are too concentrated, it will cause epidemics, let alone the nearly ten thousand zombie corpses in Songshan Town."

"Second, collect supplies and hand them over to the army for unified management. Although Songshan Town is not big, the number of people in the survivor stronghold, even including the army, is only over a hundred. Collecting all the supplies in Songshan Town will be enough to sustain us for a long time."

"As for the third point, it is to formulate a new set of rules for the soon-to-be-expanded survivor stronghold. As the number of people increases, we cannot be without order."

Lin Zhi's three main tasks were quite pertinent. The first two points went without saying; they concerned survival and were naturally the top priority at the moment. As for the third, formulating new rules for the survivor base.

The military personnel went without saying; as soldiers summoned by the system, they had 100% loyalty and reverence for Lin Zhi and naturally would not violate those rules. But the survivors were different. Although there were only a few dozen people now, and nothing was apparent, once the number of survivors increased, there would definitely be great chaos if there were no clear rules to constrain them. Now that Lin Zhi had brought it up, it could be considered a preventive measure.

As Lin Zhi spoke, the cadres present took out their little red notebooks to record his every word and action. As Lin Zhi's voice fell, the cadres present began to discuss.

Soon, someone made a supplement based on the three main tasks proposed by Lin Zhi. "For the first goal, clearing the corpses of the zombie horde, I think we can mobilize the survivors to help our soldiers. After all, our soldiers currently number only 59, and after excluding necessary defense tasks, the number of people we can pull out is even fewer."

"In addition, we can take the opportunity of cleaning up the zombies to preliminarily establish a new rule. That is, to trade labor for food. Although as soldiers, it is our duty to protect the ordinary people of our country..."

This meeting lasted for two hours. As the saying goes, many hands make light work. With everyone brainstorming, they were able to gradually fill in the gaps in Lin Zhi's plan, which previously only had a rough framework.

At ten o'clock in the morning, the meeting finally came to an end. Following Lin Zhi's order, the cadres present all went to execute the responsibilities assigned to them during the meeting.

After the other cadres had left, Lin Zhi took Platoon Leader Chen Yuan and Platoon Leader Tan Shan and left the command room, heading toward the living area of the survivors.

The survivors' living area was on the second floor of the Town Government building. This place had once been the office location for Town Government staff, with many rooms lining both sides of the corridor. However, after Lin Zhi brought the army to occupy it, he had converted all these rooms into simple dormitories for temporary rest.

As Lin Zhi appeared on the second floor with the two Platoon Leaders, he instructed the soldiers guarding the survivor camp to call all 69 survivors out into the corridor.

The corridor, which had been empty, immediately filled with two long lines that seemed to have no end. Many survivors looked suspiciously at Lin Zhi standing in the front, as well as the two Platoon Leaders behind him.

Although they had only just arrived at the survivor camp, they also knew that Lin Zhi and the two Platoon Leaders behind him were the highest-ranking officers in the Songshan Town survivor camp so far.

At this moment, Lin Xiaoxiao and the others also came to the corridor, to Lin Zhi's side. The three women, Lin Xiaoxiao, Xi Xi, and Lele, were all looking at Lin Zhi with some curiosity. Lin Xiaoxiao couldn't help but ask, "Brother, you called all of us over early in the morning; is there something you need to instruct us on?"

Lin Zhi smiled upon hearing this. "You'll know in a moment."

After saying this, the gentle smile on Lin Zhi's face faded, replaced by a serious expression. His sharp gaze swept over all the survivors present. Subsequently, a calm, yet filled with a certain majesty, voice gradually sounded.

"Greetings, everyone. Perhaps some of you were rescued in a rush last night and do not know me yet. Let me introduce myself here. My name is Lin Zhi, and I am the supreme commander of this army, as well as the person in charge of the management of the entire camp. I have gathered everyone here this time to announce some matters."
