65: New survivors
As the preparations concluded, everyone at the Songshan Town Survivor Base entered a state of mobilization.
Two squads of soldiers, along with 25 adults, were responsible for clearing the corpses of the tens of thousands of zombies throughout Songshan Town.
One squad of soldiers and 13 women, including Lin Xiaoxiao, were tasked with searching for supplies outside.
With two squads of soldiers plus 25 adult survivors, there were only 45 people in total. Clearing ten thousand zombie corpses without the aid of tools would certainly be an incredibly long task.
Fortunately, only a few weeks had passed since the zombie crisis broke out, so many vehicles remained undamaged. The streets of Songshan Town were filled with vehicles.
To transport the corpses, they found three heavy-duty semi-trucks. They even utilized the z-20t armed helicopter.
Excluding the pilots, over twenty people were responsible for collecting and loading the corpses. Others dug a giant pit about two kilometers outside of Songshan Town to bury and burn them.
After all, with so many corpses, it would definitely be a huge problem if they just found a random place to dispose of them.
The supply search teams were also working vigorously. From time to time, a truck fully loaded with goods would drive into the Songshan Town Survivor Base.
As for the elderly and children who could not perform heavy manual labor, they were responsible for unloading the searched supplies and placing them in the warehouse specifically used for storage.
Everyone in the base was busy, and Lin Zhi naturally couldn't take it easy. In addition to coordinating the smooth operation of division of labor, Lin Zhi found a radio station within Songshan Town.
Although it was already a modern society with advanced modernization, where everyone had mobile phones and every household had high-tech products like televisions and computers, there was no need to rely on radio broadcasts to get news.
However, most towns and cities had not dismantled their radio stations—facilities whose function of transmitting information was relatively backward compared to modern society's transmission capabilities.
As a means of disseminating information without the need for satellite communication, radio remained a fairly basic yet important method of information transmission.
Even in wartime, this method—transmitting radio waves through ground-based transmitters, which then spread in the form of ground waves or sky waves to cover a certain area and required specific decoding frequency bands to access information—was even more secure.
Lin Zhi's purpose for finding the radio station was very clear. He wanted to use the radio station's large base station and wide signal coverage to convey the fact that a survivor base had now been established in Songshan Town.
He wanted survivors within the H City area who could receive the signal and had the fortune to survive to move in the direction of Songshan Town.
Currently, Lin Zhi's mission completion rate was only 69%. He still needed 31 more people to complete the system's mission and obtain the reward of an Infantry Company; this was a matter of urgency.
Fortunately, such a special place as the radio station was equipped with a generator. With the generator started, the entire radio station resumed operation.
Lin Zhi directly adjusted the radio station's frequency band to the maximum. Although he didn't know if the message transmitted this way would be received by anyone, Lin Zhi would not give up such an opportunity.
Coughing once, Lin Zhi cleared his throat and began to record his voice.
"This is the Songshan Town Survivor Base. Currently, the base has abundant supplies, sufficient personnel, and is garrisoned by the military."
"We hope that the survivors who receive this message can move toward Songshan Town. We will do our utmost to protect everyone's safety!"
After recording the voice, Lin Zhi handed the radio station over to a survivor who was originally a staff member of the radio station, ensuring it would be broadcast around the clock, before leaving the place with peace of mind.
As the invisible radio signals spread from Songshan Town toward the surrounding areas, Lin Zhi's voice suddenly rang out from the radios that hadn't been turned off in some vehicles abandoned on the road, after a few crackles of static.
...
A day passed in the blink of an eye. Half of the zombie corpses in Songshan Town had been cleared. It was estimated that after clearing for another day tomorrow, it would be completely finished.
Almost all the supplies within Songshan Town had been collected for unified management by the military.
At night, looking at the soldiers and survivors who had been busy all day, Lin Zhi gave them his greatest affirmation and a generous dinner as a reward.
This action also planted the idea that "labor can earn generous food" in everyone's hearts. This would undoubtedly increase the acceptance of everyone when Lin Zhi formulated new survival rules in the future.
A day ended quickly. The next day arrived quickly. Today was still the most important time for the early development of the survivor base.
However, just when the scene in Songshan Town was one of busyness, the soldiers responsible for guarding the entrance to the town and setting up roadblocks sent back an unexpected piece of news.
"Commander, a group of survivors has arrived outside Songshan Town. The number is about twenty, with men and women, old and young!"
Upon hearing this news, Lin Zhi's expression in the office suddenly became surprised. He then spoke into the communicator.
"Bring this group of survivors to the plaza in front of the Town Government building." "Understood."
Hanging up the communication, Lin Zhi left the command room and came to the plaza in front of the building to wait.
This was the first group of survivors to appear outside the Songshan Town Survivor Base since its establishment. He didn't know if the broadcast Lin Zhi had set up had played a role.
In just a few minutes, a group of twenty survivors following two soldiers appeared on the plaza in front of the Town Government building, right in front of Lin Zhi.
Before entering Songshan Town, these people had been checked to rule out danger, so there was no need to worry about whether anyone was infected.
Upon seeing Lin Zhi, this group of survivors stood nervously in front of him. Lin Zhi's appraising gaze couldn't help but sweep over them.
These people were dressed quite plainly and looked just like honest farmers. However, their condition was not very good. It seemed that before arriving at the base, they had gone through a rather difficult time.
At this moment, among the survivors, an elderly man who looked to have a bit of demeanor asked Lin Zhi cautiously.
"Excuse me, are you the leader of the Songshan Town Survivor Base?"
Lin Zhi nodded upon hearing this, a smile appearing on his face.
"Yes, old man. My name is Lin Zhi. I am the person in charge of the survivor base and also the commander of this troop. May I ask how you found us here?"
Facing Lin Zhi's question, after receiving Lin Zhi's confirmation, the survivors' faces finally showed expressions of relief, and some even had their eyes filled with tears for a moment.
"Great, we finally found a safe place!" "Now we don't have to worry about those monsters anymore!" "This place is protected by the military, it must be very safe!" "..."
Hearing the bustling sounds of the crowd, the old man spoke up.
"Officer Lin, actually we are all people from Songshan Town. I am the former village chief of Qingxiang Village; my name is Wu Zhi."
