Chapter 30: ThalesThe transition from Drake Systems to OmniTech Systems went smoother and quicker than Ethan initially expected.

He expected to encounter at least a bit of headache, maybe with Avance since they seemed to be more interested in acquiring Drake systems than actually collecting their what was owed to them.

But since Drake systems was now acquired by another company, they couldn’t pressure Camila and could only leave with what was owed to them.

Although, if Ethan had to admit, it cost him a lot more than he expected. With the $2.7 million dollars owed to Avance plus the one million he had to pay to secure the actual acquisition of Drake Systems, the entire deal totaled nearly $3.7 million.

More than half of the money he’d gotten from Google was now gone.

Not that he regretted it.

It gave OmniTech full ownership of a powerful server infrastructure, a moderately skilled technical staff, and a woman who could run it all without needing to be handheld. It also positioned them well for Sentinel’s upcoming launch.

But still, the cost stung a little more than he liked to admit.

Especially after allocating some of the remaining amount to Lillian, for Sentinel’s launch.

He was now almost officially as broke as when he first regressed but this time with a company and a product on the brink of launch, so this was an investment that was worth it.

So was whatever stress that came with it.



Well, the stress part was an idea Lillian didn’t share but that was a story for another time, because Ethan was currently in the process of planning for one of the major reasons why he acquired the servers.

Of course, Sentinel was one of the reasons but there was a bigger one.

An AI assistant.

"System," Ethan called out, "can you pull up the blueprint to the AI assistant?"

The holographic screen of the system opened up in front of him, revealing the blueprint of the Basic AI assistant from his starter pack.

Before him were codes written in a language unfamiliar to him. It was not in Python, C++ or any other coding language he had ever seen or worked with.

Confused, he asked the system, "what’s this?"

A panel popped up to the side of the of the blueprint as the system replied, [the blueprint to the AI assistant you requested.]

"Yeah, I got that part," Ethan said, "I meant the language. This isn’t anything I’ve seen before."

[The program is written in Thales, a language created with maximum optimization in mind.]

"Thales... like the philosopher?" He wondered.

[Correct. Named after Thales of Miletus, one of the first minds to seek logic and structure in natural phenomena. Fitting, for a language designed to bring thought to code.]

A coding language not known to anyone, wasn’t this perfect?

If Ethan was being completely honest, he always knew that Sentinel wouldn’t remain uncracked forever.

Sure, he’d made it complex, years ahead of anything in 2010, but it was still written in Python, a language thousands of engineers were fluent in, especially at a place like Google.

Given enough time and the right minds, they could pick it apart.... eventually. Maybe not replicate it perfectly, but close enough to be dangerous.



Even if they failed to clone it, they might understand it. And that was enough of a threat on its own.

But Thales?

It was a completely unknown language, with no available compilers or any online documentation which in turn meant that there was no way for Google or anyone to copy any of his programs.

But he stopped before he could get ahead of himself.

"System, can I learn this language?" He asked.

His programs becoming impossible to replicate depended on the system’s answer and he wasn’t disappointed, well, not completely.

[Affirmative. Mastery of the Thales language is available through the system shop.]

This caused Ethan to frown, access to the system’s shop has not been unlocked yet so there was no way for him to learn the language yet.

But then again, if that was the case, why did the system give him a blueprint of a code he had no way of understanding right now.

[While full mastery of Thales is currently unavailable, translation is permitted for blueprints provided by the system.]

Ethan arched a brow. "Meaning...?"

[Would you like to convert the AI assistant blueprint into a language of your choosing for deployment? Supported formats include: Python, C++, Java, C# and more]

"So while I can’t learn Thales right now, you can convert it to code I can understand." He said and the system affirmed.

"I see," he nodded.

Ethan leaned back in his chair, staring at the holographic blueprint with a contemplative expression.

This would put a bit of hiccup to what he planned, but he didn’t have the luxury of waiting right now. Sentinel’s launch was close and this AI assistant would become a core part of OmniTech’s future ecosystem.

"Convert it to Python," he said finally. "It’ll be easier to expand and test alongside Sentinel’s current framework."



The Thales code on the holographic screen immediately started transformating into native Python code.

Then came the system prompt:

[Would you like to upload relevant implementation knowledge for creation of this AI assistant?]

He thought over the option presented by the system. While he could spend time manually reading through the code and figuring things out himself, time wasn’t exactly a resource he had in abundance.

Ethan’s hand hovered over the floating [Yes] icon.

"Let’s do it," he muttered, tapping it without hesitation.

The moment he selected [yes], a jolt passed through his spine. It wasn’t painful, well not as painful as when he increased his proficiency, it was just a bit overwhelming.

He let out a low groan as the information finished being uploaded into his brain. He now understood what the AI assistant offered.

It was advanced, to say the least, easily outclassing what the world could offer in a few years.

But there was one issue, as the system had stated, it was only a basic AI assistant, and it couldn’t handle everything Ethan needed it to.

Still, that didn’t deter him.

He stood up, a faint grin tugging at his lips. "Alright then... let’s upgrade it."
