102: prehistoric megalodon

What is that?

When that unreasonably massive shadow slowly swam over the base, the same question popped into everyone's mind.

It was too big.

It was so large that even the hundred-meter-wide giant screen at the Dragon Country Operations Center couldn't fully display its entire form.

Through the portholes and external cameras, the team members could only see its mountain-like undulating back and a caudal fin even larger than the base's Main control room. A gentle flick in the water whipped up a terrifying undercurrent strong enough to make a submarine lose control.

"Is this... is this a fucking whale? No, it's impossible for a whale to dive this deep!" Chen Hu's eyes widened, and he swallowed hard.

"Body length... estimated to be over a hundred meters." Wang Yi's voice became incredibly solemn as he stared fixedly in the direction where the shadow had disappeared. "Its swimming style isn't like a mammal's."

Just then, attracted by the light of the flares and the energy fluctuations of the base, the massive shadow seemed to take an interest in this suddenly glowing little toy.

It turned around and slowly approached the base.

When it was fully exposed under the light of the flares, billions of viewers worldwide gasped simultaneously.

It was a shark.

A prehistoric monster whose size had been magnified dozens of times, as if it had swum straight out of Jurassic Park—the Megalodon!

Its streamlined body was full of explosive power, and its grayish-black skin was covered in scars that looked like they were carved by knives and axes, showcasing its illustrious battle record as the overlord of the deep sea. Most terrifying of all was its gaping maw, densely packed with teeth as sharp as daggers, each one thicker and longer than an adult's arm.

A pair of emotionless eyes, like black glass beads, coldly watched the glowing tin can before them.

In front of it, the Deep-sea base, which had originally seemed quite massive, was as small as a soda can.

"A pre... prehistoric Megalodon? Hasn't this species been extinct for a long time?" Li Bingyao's voice carried an unmaskable horror.

"In the national destiny arena, nothing is impossible." Wang Yi forced himself to calm down. "Everyone, to your battle stations! Zhang Wei, turn the base shield energy to maximum!"

The Megalodon seemed to lack patience. After circling the base and confirming it wasn't edible, it irritably flicked its tail.

*Bang!*

A muffled, heavy thud.

With just a gentle flick of its tail, the entire base shook violently, as if it had been hit head-on by a high-speed train.

In the Main control room, countless parts and debris rained down. The team members were thrown off balance, only managing to steady themselves with great difficulty.

"Warning! External shield energy has dropped by 10%!"

"It just touched us!" Zhang Wei cried out in terror.

Now, everyone realized the severity of the problem.

This behemoth didn't even need to use its teeth; the impact from its massive body alone could easily crush the base into a pile of scrap metal!

"We can't just sit here and wait for death!" A cold light flashed in Wang Yi's eyes. "We have to lure it away, or... kill it!"

He immediately rushed toward the Airlock.

"Captain, what are you doing?" Chen Hu followed.

"Its target is the base. I'm going out to draw its attention!" Wang Yi said in a low voice.

"Are you crazy?!" Chen Hu grabbed him. "Your lightning is useless in the water!"

Wang Yi shook off his hand, his eyes resolute.

"I have to try! Otherwise, we're all going to die here!"

He knew what Chen Hu said was true, but he wasn't resigned to it. His awakened Lightning ability had been unstoppable in previous dungeons; it was his pride and his strongest trump card. He didn't believe it would become completely useless just because they were in the deep sea.

He rushed out of the Airlock, floating in the seawater, facing the behemoth that looked like a moving mountain range.

The Megalodon clearly noticed the tiny speck, no bigger than plankton. Its massive head turned slightly, and its cold eyes locked onto him.

"Come on, you beast!"

Wang Yi roared, pushing his lightning power to the limit.

*Zzzt—*

Dazzling blue electric light converged in his palm, forming a violent ball of lightning.

With all his strength, he thrust the Lightning ball toward the Megalodon's head!

The Lightning ball trailed a long streak of electricity through the water, appearing quite formidable.

However, when it touched the vast expanse of seawater in front of the Megalodon, a bizarre scene unfolded.

The violent lightning power was like a clay ox entering the sea, instantly conducted, diluted, and dissipated by the endless seawater.

The Lightning ball, which had been condensed into a sphere, had its power weakened by 99% during the diffusion process. By the time it hit the Megalodon, it only caused a few negligible wisps of blue smoke on its thick skin and a few tiny electric sparks.

It didn't even feel like being electrocuted; at most... it was like being snapped by static electricity.

The Megalodon paused for a moment, appearing somewhat confused, then it opened its massive maw and yawned, as if mocking Wang Yi's incompetence.

Wang Yi froze on the spot.

Looking at his ineffective attack, a sense of powerlessness and frustration he had never felt before surged into his heart.

Just then, Su Yuan, who had been closely monitoring the battlefield, sent an urgent Mental communication directly into Wang Yi's mind.

"Wang Yi, stop! I told you, using your electricity recklessly in the water will only hurt yourself! Seawater is too conductive; your energy will be completely dispersed before it hits the target! Not only will it not hurt it, but the leaking current could also cause a secondary short circuit in the base's equipment!"

"In a deep-sea environment, brute force is inferior to technology! Fall back, let me figure something out!"

Su Yuan's voice was like a bucket of cold water, waking the hot-headed Wang Yi.

He glanced at the warning lights inside the base, which were flashing again because of his recent attack, and a cold sweat broke out on his back.

He was wrong, terribly wrong.

He immediately turned around, preparing to return to the base.

However, although his attack failed to cause damage, it succeeded in enraging the overlord of the deep sea.

Being provoked by a tiny insect made the Megalodon feel insulted.

It let out a silent roar, its massive body swinging violently, charging toward Wang Yi and the base behind him with the force of ten thousand tons!

"Oh no!"

Wang Yi's pupils constricted.

This impact would be enough to completely destroy the entire base!

He wanted to dodge, but found himself pinned down by the massive current brought by the beast, unable to move at all.

At this critical moment, another Airlock of the base burst open, and a burly figure, like a cannonball fired from a barrel, charged fearlessly toward the Megalodon in a counter-attack!

It was Chen Hu!
