49: Chapter 49 Unveiling Her Veil
Su Li's hand gripping the bedsheet couldn't help but tighten a bit more.
She remained silent for a few seconds before finally speaking:
"Do you know what you are saying?"
"I am an Elder of the Mingyu Sect. Even if I have lost all my cultivation, it is not for a junior like you to judge me."
"Of course I know you are an Elder, but so what?"
Mo Zixing's tone carried a deliberate contempt as he shifted his gaze to glance at the System panel first.
As expected, Su Li's last bit of remaining favorability—the little heart icon—had finally dropped to zero.
Now, it had been replaced by a hatred gauge in the shape of a flame.
"You know about my physical condition... did Qingyan tell you?"
Su Li's voice still betrayed little emotion.
Mo Zixing shrugged noncommittally, his tone nonchalant:
"Does that matter?"
"What matters is that your cultivation is gone, your Dantian is destroyed, and you can't even circulate spiritual power."
"In other words, the current you is of no use to the Sect's actual development."
He paused, choosing to deliberately step on her most painful spot:
"Even if you were to take this wood life source pill, you would still have a slim chance of survival; you'd most likely end up exploding and dying."
"On the other hand, if I, a gifted Disciple, take it, it might even raise my cultivation to the next level."
"The benefits I can bring to the Sect in the future are far greater than what a cripple like you can offer."
Su Li fell completely silent.
Only the crackling of the flickering candlelight remained in the bedchamber.
These words were harsh.
Yet, they were a reality she had to admit.
A few years ago, her Foundation was damaged, making it impossible for her to progress further.
Not to mention that now, she had fallen to the level of a weak Mortal.
Forget about contributing to the Sect; she might even damage the Sect's reputation.
She felt that the Disciples must have said these things countless times in private, but no one dared to say them to her face.
Yet Mo Zixing had laid out this bloody reality directly before her.
Su Li took a deep breath, and when she spoke again, her voice held only numb exhaustion:
"Say whatever you want."
"If you want the Medicinal Pill, then take it."
"Huh?"
Why this reaction?
Mo Zixing was stunned; he glanced sideways at the System panel.
The hatred value flame didn't even flicker.
"Wait?"
"Is she not even angry?"
He was practically taunting her to her face, yet she didn't even say a harsh word?
It seemed this tactic wasn't working.
His gaze fell upon the tightly wrapped Black Veil on Su Li's face.
He had noticed over the past few days.
Su Li wore this Black Veil at all times.
The System panel also clearly showed that she had the [completely destroyed appearance] trait.
It seemed this was her last shred of dignity.
To raise the hatred value, he had to start here.
Mo Zixing had an idea; he leaned forward and sat directly on the edge of the bed.
The mattress sank slightly with his movement. Su Li tensed up and instinctively shrank back, a hint of wariness finally appearing in her voice:
"What are you doing? Stay away from me."
Mo Zixing didn't speak; instead, he reached out his hand directly toward the Black Veil on her face.
This time, Su Li's reaction indeed exploded.
Even though she was weak, she immediately raised her hand to grab his wrist, her voice carrying genuine anger and panic for the first time:
"Mo Zixing, how dare you!"
Unfortunately, she was now just a Mortal with no cultivation.
This bit of strength was no different from a kitten's scratch to Mo Zixing, who was at the second level of Foundation Establishment.
With a little force, Mo Zixing easily grabbed both her wrists, firmly controlling them with one hand and pinning them to the sides of the bed.
He leaned over her, his breath brushing against the edge of the Black Veil, his tone deliberately flirtatious and brazen:
"Why wouldn't I dare?"
"I've been interested for a long time—what kind of face is hidden beneath your Black Veil?"
Mo Zixing's fingertips brushed the edge of the Black Veil, and he could clearly feel the person beneath him trembling all over.
He looked down at the System panel.
Sure enough, the previously motionless hatred progress bar suddenly lit up with the first flame.
Mo Zixing thought to himself, "As expected."
She wore the Black Veil every day, clearly placing extreme importance on this matter.
Su Li struggled desperately, but her wrists were held fast, and she couldn't move at all. She could only grit her teeth hard:
"I once thought you were a junior with an upright Heart-Nature, but I didn't expect you to be such a despicable person!"
"Upright?"
Mo Zixing raised an eyebrow, deliberately making his tone even more annoying:
"Elder Su must have misunderstood; I never said I was an upright person."
"No!"
Su Li's voice was shaking, and her eyes beneath the Black Veil had already turned red:
"How dare you!"
Seeing that her emotions had reached the right pitch, Mo Zixing no longer hesitated.
His other free hand reached out, hooked the ribbon behind her neck that held the veil, and gave it a gentle tug.
The thin ribbon snapped.
The Black Veil slowly slid down her cheeks and fell lightly onto the bed.
Revealing the face she had hidden for many years.
Half of her face was of exquisite beauty.
But the other half was covered in hideous scars.
The two sides of her face formed a shocking contrast.
Looking at this face, Mo Zixing thought of a character named Sylvie from a game he had played before his Transmigration.
Only these scars were far more severe, so hideous that the original contours were almost unrecognizable.
No wonder she refused to be seen without her Black Veil every day.
Anyone who ended up like this wouldn't be able to bear it.
Mo Zixing snapped back to reality and gave an order to the System in his mind:
"Use the Trait Masking Function to mask Su Li's [completely destroyed appearance] black trait."
"[Trait Masking Function activated]"
"[Target trait [completely destroyed appearance] has been temporarily masked for twenty-four hours]"
The System notification faded.
On Su Li's face...
Those twisted scars slowly receded at a pace visible to the naked eye, bit by bit restoring her original appearance.
Her eyebrows were like distant mountains shrouded in mist, and her eyes like the rippling waters of autumn.
Her entire face was flawless; even with tears in the corners of her eyes, she was breathtakingly beautiful.
Su Li herself had not yet noticed the change occurring on her face.
She only knew that Mo Zixing was staring intently at her face.
Humiliation, shame, and hatred overwhelmed her.
A hot tear finally couldn't be held back any longer and rolled down her fair cheek.
She was so beautiful it made one's heart tremble.
She gritted her teeth and spoke one word at a time:
"Mo Zixing, I will definitely make you regret this."
Mo Zixing glanced down at the System panel.
The hatred value, which had only one flame, was like having a bucket of gasoline poured on it; the progress bar surged forward wildly.
It directly filled three flame slots.
Only two more flames were needed for the hatred bar to be full.
He couldn't help but curl his lips upward, and under Su Li's gaze, he placed his hand directly on her soft cheek:
"Regret?"
"I won't regret it."
"I hope that what happens next won't make you regret it either."
