64: The two women met
Xiaojing does yoga every morning. Normally, she studies voice acting in the afternoon and streams live in the evening. If Jiang Chuan comes over, she streams in the afternoon and leaves the evening for the two of them.
They agreed that on Fridays or weekends, if nothing else is going on, Jiang Chuan would come over to water the flowers.
After all, she's only twenty-two, still in the prime of growth. Water is an essential substance for the human body, so it needs to be replenished often.
Moreover, Xiaojing has been getting better and better lately. Her vocal range has become increasingly varied, progressing from completely still to responsive. It won't be long before she evolves into fully automatic.
Jiang Chuan stepped out of the elevator, entered his birthday to unlock the keypad, changed into slippers, and quietly walked inside.
But after searching the entire room, he couldn't find anyone. He definitely hadn't left the elevator, and Xiaojing couldn't have gone out either. With no other option, he had to call her.
"Ding-a-ling~ Ding-a-ling~"
Jiang Chuan followed the sound to find the phone, eventually locating Xiaojing's phone on the dressing table.
Holding the phone, he returned to the living room and sat on the sofa. Recalling the meticulously applied makeup she had on in the morning, combined with leaving without her phone...
Even a fool like Jiang Chuan could guess where she went. But he didn't know where that internet celebrity face lived, so he just lay on the sofa, watching Starlight live streams while waiting for Xiaojing to return.
Tan Jing bit her rosy lips, holding breakfast in her hands as she stood before the door of the apartment on the 17th floor and pressed the doorbell.
After a long while, she finally heard footsteps from inside the room, stopping behind the door—likely peering through the peephole.
A moment later, a beautiful girl in pajamas, without makeup, gently opened the door and asked curiously:
"Hello, who are you looking for?"
Tan Jing was momentarily stunned by the girl before her. Even without makeup, she was so pretty and had a great figure—no wonder Jiang Chuan would... "Hello?"
"Ah, hello! I'm a resident from upstairs. Since we're so close, I thought we should get to know each other. After all, a close neighbor is better than a distant relative. I made this breakfast myself—would you like to try it?"
Startled by the slightly louder voice, Tan Jing quickly recited the opening line she had rehearsed countless times.
Feng Qiqi saw a beautiful girl outside the door, wearing a white Chanel dress, with a small Bvlgari Serpenti earring adorning her delicate ear.
In her hand, she held a small white Delvaux Le Brillant leather bag, famously known as the 'lie bag.'
If she were to buy a bag, she would definitely choose well-known brands like Louis Vuitton, Hermès, or Chanel, so others would know how expensive her bag was.
The girl before her must come from a very wealthy family to buy such an understated brand. Her entire outfit was estimated to be worth at least over three hundred thousand—more than her annual salary and bonuses combined.
"Sigh, when will I ever become someone like that? But becoming good friends isn't bad either. If we get close, I might even be able to borrow her bags!"
Thinking this, she warmly stepped aside and said apologetically:
"The place is a bit messy. Please come in! I'll get you some slippers. Your cooking skills are amazing—it looks so appetizing."
Tan Jing thanked her, changed into disposable slippers, and looked around the room. The decor style was the same as hers, but it was adorned with many photos of girls, more reminiscent of scenes from abroad.
The room wasn't as messy as the other had claimed; it was actually quite tidy. However, the coffee table in the living room was covered with beer bottles, clearly indicating that the girl she had seen in the elevator last night was indeed her.
Feng Qiqi took the breakfast from her and placed it on the dining table. The two sat down on chairs, and only then did she introduce herself:
"My name is Feng Qiqi. I work at a foreign trade company. The moment I saw you, I felt an instant connection, like we've been friends for ages."
"Me too! My name is Tan Jing. It's a pleasure to meet you."
Feng Qiqi said excitedly, "Really? I don't have many friends, and I usually get pretty bored on my own. So, from now on, we're friends~"
"I don't have many friends either. Since we're so close, I can come hang out with you anytime."
Tan Jing hadn't expected it to go so smoothly. Pretending to casually look around, she asked offhandedly:
"Someone as pretty as you must have a Boyfriend, right? Would it be inconvenient for me to visit?"
Upon hearing this, Feng Qiqi immediately thought of last night—that man who showed no chivalry. Her already stabilized emotions wavered again with a hint of grievance, and she said pitifully:
"I don't have a Boyfriend yet, but there's a guy I like. I just don't know how to pursue him. Maybe you could give me some advice?"
Tan Jing breathed a sigh of relief. There was no need to guess who the other girl liked. At least they weren't together yet. But the idea of the official girlfriend helping her pursue her own Boyfriend made her look at the other girl with a strange expression.
"I think... when it comes to love, you can't force it. Someone as pretty as you must have plenty of suitors, right? If it doesn't work out, you can always find another guy."
Feng Qiqi wished she could find another one too, but where could she easily find a guy who's both handsome and well-off?
Feeling that the other girl seemed quite interested in this topic, she got up and moved to sit opposite her, linking arms like best friends, and began ranting about how terrible that man was!
Tan Jing shifted back uncomfortably. Hearing someone badmouth her Boyfriend felt even weirder, but she couldn't just say it outright. So she quietly listened, occasionally responding with a few words.
Neither of them had many friends. Most of the time, they spent their days alone in their rooms. Finally meeting someone they could confide in, they chatted from the dining room to the living room, and from the living room to the bedroom.
They had already taken on the shape of best friends. Hearing about the other's tragic experiences, Tan Jing—who was already highly empathetic—cried even harder than the other girl, completely forgetting that she had come today to confront the other woman.
Their past lives could be described as equally miserable—one worse than the other. The more they talked, the sadder they became. Returning to the living room, they even started drinking the leftover alcohol from last night.
With no men in the room, there was no need to worry about accidental exposure. They sprawled on the sofa without any regard for appearances, reminiscing about the past while drinking.
Twenty-third floor
Jiang Chuan glanced at his watch. It was already noon, and Xiaojing still hadn't returned. Initially unworried, he was now starting to feel restless.
"They wouldn't get into a fight, would they? What if Xiaojing gets hurt?"
Unable to wait any longer, he stood up and left the room. Using his unique ability, he knocked on doors floor by floor, starting from the top and working his way down.
22nd, 21st, 20th, 19th, 18th... Jiang Chuan realized this wasn't going to work. The building had thirty floors—knocking on every door would take forever!
But there was no better alternative. Although the clumsy method was slow, it was indeed effective.
Dragging his heavy footsteps to the 17th floor, he approached the door. Just as he was about to knock, he noticed it wasn't closed but slightly ajar. Still, he didn't barge in directly and politely knocked on the door instead.
"Knock, knock, knock! Knock, knock, knock!"
Receiving no response, Jiang Chuan pulled the door open and called out loudly, "Hello! Is anyone home?"
Still, there was no response.
"Maybe no one's here?"
If there really was no one, getting arrested as a burglar would be too unjust. Tomorrow's headlines would definitely read:
"[Starlight Founder Jiang Chuan Arrested for Burglary!]"
Jiang Chuan shook his head, trying to dispel the wild thoughts. Xiaojing was more important. Taking a deep breath, he slowly stepped inside.
