6: Chapter 6: Enjoying a Feast, Accidentally Caught in the Camera

Brother Hei began to feast, while Bai Xuan hid in the tree, silent, quietly observing Brother Hei and that Forest Ranger.

"Brother Hei, eat slowly, no one is going to steal it from you." The Forest Ranger squatted on the ground, cupping his cheeks with both hands, watching Brother Hei eat.

"Mutated animals are appearing all over the country now, and in other countries too. Brother Hei, do you know what is happening?"

The Forest Ranger muttered to himself, then asked Brother Hei.

"Disaster is coming." Brother Hei said in broken Dragon Country language.

Due to the mutation combined with the unique vocal tract of a crow, Brother Hei was able to speak some human language.

If one listened carefully, it could still be understood.

"Brother Hei, you are so smart."

The Forest Ranger was slightly stunned and couldn't help but praise him.

Brother Hei had learned to speak from him before, but it had been very vague and hard to understand; now, however, it was much clearer and could be understood if one listened carefully.

"Disaster is coming." Brother Hei repeated.

"It's fine, they're just some mutated animals. Dragon Country has developed for thousands of years; we can handle something like this, so don't worry." The Forest Ranger waved his hand, dismissing it.

He didn't take Brother Hei's words to heart, believing Brother Hei was just mimicking dialogue from movies and saying it casually.

Furthermore, these animals had only grown a bit larger and did not yet pose a threat to humans.

"He really is carefree." Bai Xuan muttered to himself.

This was directed at Brother Hei and the Forest Ranger; he hoped things would develop in a positive direction.

The upper echelons of the Dragon Country would surely investigate, so the Forest Ranger had nothing to worry about.

But Bai Xuan was a bit worried; his size was so large that if he were discovered, his situation would likely become very difficult.

However, with mutated animals appearing everywhere now, they probably wouldn't focus too much attention on him. He had to develop as quickly as possible; Bai Xuan did not want to be dissected.

"Holy crap, Brother Hei, how did you get so big?" Another Forest Ranger, upon seeing Brother Hei, exclaimed in shock, while not forgetting to take out his phone to record it.

After all, it was his first time seeing such a large crow.

"Wang Gang, you can take pictures, but remember not to post them randomly; it has a bad influence." The Forest Ranger who brought food to Brother Hei sternly reminded Wang Gang.

"Got it, got it."

The Forest Ranger named Wang Gang dismissed it with a wave of his hand.

Then he squatted in front of Brother Hei, watching Brother Hei eat the food.

Just like that, they chatted happily, and after Brother Hei finished his food, he said some broken words of thanks to the two Forest Rangers, greeted them, and prepared to leave.

The food hadn't been poisoned, and the two Forest Rangers hadn't done anything to Brother Hei.

The Forest Ranger stroked Brother Hei's back: "Brother Hei is such a good boy, go on, stay safe, and come visit often when you have time."

They loved this polite, smart, and grateful crow very much, and found it quite rare.

Afterward, Brother Hei flew away.

After Bai Xuan didn't find anything unusual, he also quietly snuck away.

"Did this crow grow up eating pig feed? It's so big, yet so docile."

"Mutated animals with huge sizes are appearing all over the country now. Everyone, be careful when you go out, stay safe, peace is a blessing."

"Could spiritual energy recovery really be coming? I'm so looking forward to it."

"Wait, look up at the tree, what is that?"

"Holy crap, a Goshawk! It's my first time seeing such a big Goshawk, and it has a tuft of white feathers on its head—so imposing."

"Getting grabbed by this Goshawk would definitely leave you bruised and battered."

"One claw to the throat and you're done. That's a raptor, very dangerous. Being a Forest Ranger really is a high-risk profession."

"Blogger, be careful. This Goshawk must have been here for a long time. And that look in its eyes, staring straight at you—it's terrifying!"

Wang Gang looked at the comments online. He had taken many photos and videos of Brother Hei and posted them online, but he hadn't expected the impact to be this big.

And when did that Goshawk appear? How long had it been staying there?!

Wang Gang himself was also given a huge fright. If such a raptor were to attack them, the consequences would be unimaginable!

The Forest Ranger who gave Brother Hei food rushed into the room: "I told you not to post it randomly, why did you do it! If this causes a panic, can you bear the responsibility?"

"I just did it on a whim. Besides, I thought Brother Hei was very docile, so I posted it for everyone to see, but who knew a Goshawk would appear?"

Wang Gang lowered his head, awkwardly scratching the back of his head.

The Forest Ranger sighed: "Since things have reached this point, just delete the videos and photos."

"Anyway, mutated animals are appearing all over the country, so one more or one less doesn't really matter. Relax, it's fine." Wang Gang began to comfort himself.

"I hope so." The Forest Ranger felt very helpless. He had told him not to post it earlier, and now look, it had caused such a huge impact.

Wang Gang recalled the Goshawk in the picture and couldn't help but feel a chill down his spine: "But come to think of it, when did that Goshawk come? Did the surveillance capture it?"

"I don't know. How could surveillance capture it when it was standing in a tree?" The Forest Ranger shook his head. He was also very shocked; it was his first time seeing such a large Goshawk.

"How about we use a drone to find that Goshawk?" Wang Gang had a sudden inspiration and thought of a good idea.

"Wait until we patrol the forest tomorrow to use it, and we can look for that Goshawk then." They had to follow the rules and couldn't use it without authorization.

Wang Gang was very curious about that Goshawk: "That Goshawk is really huge, it's almost catching up to some large raptors. I wonder how many of these creatures are left in the forest?"

"I wonder how Brother Hei is doing. That Goshawk couldn't have come for Brother Hei, could it? If so, wouldn't Brother Hei be in great danger?" The Forest Ranger was concerned about Brother Hei.

The more he talked, the more nervous he became. After all, he had saved Brother Hei, and he didn't want anything to happen to him.

But the laws of the forest are survival of the fittest; he couldn't just kill that Goshawk for Brother Hei's sake.

Wang Gang patted the Forest Ranger's shoulder: "Worrying is useless. Let's wait until tomorrow. Maybe it was just passing by and stopped out of curiosity."

"That's all we can do." The Forest Ranger nodded slightly.

"Brother Hei, I think it's better not to get so close to humans. After all, you heard what they said—unexpected events are happening. You and I are unstable factors; if we are too conspicuous and get close to humans, it's easy to bring trouble upon ourselves."

Bai Xuan tried to persuade Brother Hei again.

"Don't worry. They didn't mean to hurt me just now, and they even brought me lots of delicious food. We are friends, and I trust them."

Brother Hei had absolute trust in the two Forest Rangers and would not suspect that they would harm him.

After all, his life had been saved by those two Forest Rangers; if it weren't for them, there wouldn't be the Brother Hei of today.

After Bai Xuan's persuasion failed, he didn't say anything more. Everything will work out in the end.
