7: Chapter 7 The Newly Graduated Female College Student (6)
The morning air is so wonderful! The flowers Jiang Wan planted at the entrance have bloomed one after another.
After eating breakfast, Jiang Wan didn't go anywhere; she just sat on a reclining chair by her grandmother's door, watching funny videos on her phone.
Meanwhile, Grandma Jiang had already headed out to the wet market to see what fresh vegetables were available today so she could buy some and cook them for Jiang Wan.
Jiang Wan was now eating for three, so she had to pick out some fresh ingredients; no matter how expensive they were, Grandma Jiang felt it was worth it.
When Lu Zhengyang arrived at the entrance of the Jiang Family courtyard, this was the peaceful and beautiful scene he witnessed.
Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves and fell upon Jiang Wan, making her look like a glowing fairy, so captivating that one couldn't look away.
Lu Zhengyang stood at the courtyard gate like a man possessed, his eyes fixed on Jiang Wan; seeing her, Lu Zhengyang felt that his empty heart was suddenly filled.
Jiang Wan hadn't noticed anything unusual yet, but Xiao Lingdang started screaming.
“Ah! Wanwan, Lu Zhengyang! Lu Zhengyang is here!”
What?
Hearing Xiao Lingdang’s words, Jiang Wan looked up toward the gate and found that it really was Lu Zhengyang. This scared her half to death; she stood up in a frantic scramble, and her phone fell to the ground with a thud.
Oh no, this phone was her spiritual sustenance; it couldn't be broken.
Jiang Wan wanted to bend over immediately to pick up the phone, but fortunately, she remembered she was pregnant and couldn't just bend down carelessly, so she forced herself to stop the movement.
Before Jiang Wan could pick up the phone, Lu Zhengyang stepped forward and picked it up for her.
“What, are you that excited to see me?”
Seeing Lu Zhengyang standing there in the flesh, Jiang Wan widened her eyes and asked:
“You... why are you here?”
Jiang Wan's reaction was exactly as Lu Zhengyang had expected, and he smiled.
“I came to find you!”
What? Find her? But how did Lu Zhengyang know she lived here?
“Did you investigate me?”
Did he also find out about her pregnancy then?
Jiang Wan's heart was in her throat; this man wouldn't make her go to the hospital to get an abortion, would he!
Lu Zhengyang shook his head: “No, I just happened to glance through your bag that day, and your ID card had your address on it. I wasn't sure if you were here or not, I just came to try my luck. Looking at it now, my luck is quite good.”
Jiang Wan breathed a long sigh of relief, but before she could say anything else, Grandma Jiang's voice came from a distance.
“Wanwan, who's here? I saw a car parked at our gate from far away. Who is it?”
Oh no, Grandma is back! The heart Jiang Wan had just let down was now in her throat again.
What to do, what to do? Seeing Grandma Jiang getting closer and closer, Jiang Wan still hadn't thought of a good plan. She could only grab Lu Zhengyang and whisper a warning to him:
“My grandmother doesn't know about our situation. Whatever she says later, just listen and don't say anything reckless, okay?”
Lu Zhengyang raised an eyebrow; it seemed she cared a lot about her grandmother!
“Okay, no problem.”
Grandma Jiang looked at the handsome young man in front of her and then at Jiang Wan.
“Wanwan, who is this? Is this the boyfriend you mentioned?”
Hearing this, Lu Zhengyang frowned slightly.
Boyfriend? Did she have a boyfriend?
Grandma Jiang sized Lu Zhengyang up; the more she looked, the more he fit the description. This tall stature, this handsome face—wasn't this exactly what Jiang Wan had described?
“Is he the Lu Zhengyang you mentioned?”
Grandma Jiang had to ask many times before Jiang Wan finally gave her this name; otherwise, Grandma Jiang wouldn't even have known the name of the man who was with her granddaughter.
Hearing his name come from Grandma Jiang's mouth, a different light sparked in Lu Zhengyang's eyes as he looked straight at Jiang Wan.
But Jiang Wan had no time to deal with him!
Curving her lips into a smile, she walked up to Grandma Jiang and introduced him to her: “That's right! He is Lu Zhengyang. Lu Zhengyang, this is my grandmother.”
Lu Zhengyang was very observant and greeted Grandma Jiang warmly: “Hello, Grandmother.”
“Ah, hello.”
Hearing Jiang Wan admit it personally, Grandma Jiang had a smile on her face, but she was a bit unhappy in her heart. Didn't she say he went abroad? How did he come back so soon?
However, this was her granddaughter's boyfriend, perhaps her future grandson-in-law, and even more so the father of her great-grandchild. Grandma Jiang still had to show him proper courtesy.
“Oh! Little Lu! Didn't Wanwan say you were sent abroad on a business trip? How did you come back so soon? Wanwan also said that when you returned, you would definitely come to visit me. Wanwan was right; you came today.”
At this point, Grandma Jiang gave Jiang Wan a mock-angry glare.
“Wanwan, really, someone is coming over and you didn't tell me in advance! There's no good food at home. Look, we've really neglected Little Lu.”
As Grandma Jiang spoke, she looked at Lu Zhengyang apologetically.
Lu Zhengyang laughed heartily: “Grandmother, there's no need for special preparations. I'll like whatever you make. After I returned, I wanted to come visit you as soon as possible. It was my fault for not telling you in advance; it has nothing to do with Wanwan. I didn't tell her because I wanted to give her a surprise. Grandmother, wait a moment, I brought many gifts for you and Wanwan! They're in the car, I'll go get them now.”
He was actually Jiang Wan's boyfriend!!
Hearing these words from Jiang Wan's family member, Lu Zhengyang felt delighted.
Seeing Lu Zhengyang go out, Grandma Jiang patted her granddaughter who was still standing there blankly.
“Are you blind? Go help him quickly! While it's still early, I need to hurry to Grandmother Li's and buy a chicken to stew, then go to the market to buy a fish. I only bought shrimp just now, that's not enough!”
As she spoke, Grandma Jiang rushed off to Grandmother Li's house next door.
Jiang Wan walked over to Lu Zhengyang and watched as he opened the trunk of his car, her mouth hanging open.
“Are you moving house? Why did you bring so many things?”
Lu Zhengyang was in a great mood.
“It's my first time visiting my girlfriend's home, of course I had to prepare more.”
Lu Zhengyang couldn't help but admire his own foresight. Back in Lu City, he had wondered what he would do if Jiang Wan's family was there. How could he not prepare gifts for a first meeting?
So he had raided a supermarket and followed her here with a pile of things.
Hearing him say this, Jiang Wan felt a bit awkward and explained sheepishly:
“I'm sorry, I... I shouldn't have used you as a shield. But don't worry, I'll find an opportunity to explain everything to Grandma later.”
Lu Zhengyang faced Jiang Wan and said solemnly: “No, I'm very happy. Besides, I want to make it official. Here, these things are a bit heavy, let me take them.”
As he spoke, Lu Zhengyang took the lead in carrying a pile of things into the house, and Jiang Wan helped with the lighter items.
After they moved the things to the living room, Grandma Jiang returned from Grandmother Li's house. Besides a chicken, her other hand held a fish; the chicken had already been bled.
“Little Lu! You came so suddenly, we weren't prepared. Luckily, Grandmother Li's free-range chickens are ready to eat. I'm telling you, this is a genuine local chicken, not easy to find outside; it tastes wonderful no matter how it's cooked. Also, Grandfather Li caught a wild fish yesterday, and there was one left—it's three pounds. Grandmother Li gave it to me, saying it's for you to have a taste of something fresh.”
Seeing Grandma Jiang treat him like one of her own juniors without any reserve, Lu Zhengyang was extremely happy.
“Is that so? Then I'm in for a treat. Thank you for your hard work, Grandmother. Is this heavy? Let me help you carry it.”
As he spoke, Lu Zhengyang stepped forward to help Grandma Jiang carry the fish.
Seeing Lu Zhengyang being so sensible, Grandma Jiang couldn't stop smiling.
“What hard work! Even if you didn't come, we were going to eat. Wanwan is pregnant now and needs to be properly nourished; otherwise, the nutrition for both the child and the adult won't keep up.”
Lu Zhengyang was originally following Grandma Jiang toward the kitchen, but upon hearing her words, he froze in place. Then he quickly looked at Jiang Wan, only to see her looking utterly chagrined.
Jiang Wan really couldn't face Lu Zhengyang; she quickly turned and went to the living room, not intending to explain right now.
Lu Zhengyang watched Jiang Wan leave and noticed her clothes—such a loose style, could it be maternity wear?
After hearing Grandma Jiang's words, knowing she got his name from Jiang Wan, and combining that with Jiang Wan's shocked expression when she saw him, Lu Zhengyang reasonably suspected that the child in Jiang Wan's belly was his.
That was why Jiang Wan was so shocked to see him.
Lu Zhengyang intended to go and ask Jiang Wan for clarification right now, but looking at the fish in his hand and seeing Grandma Jiang already in the kitchen, he thought about it and decided to help her cook first!
As for Jiang Wan! He could ask later. After all, the monk can run, but the temple can't.
Perhaps he could even learn more about Jiang Wan from Grandma Jiang's side.
