6: Chapter 6: A Clever Plan to Bid Farewell to the Dragon Kingdom

Zhang Cheng sat in that familiar police station interrogation room once again.

This time, he made himself look even "messier" than before. His clothes were torn into strips, his hair was a mess, and his face was covered in dirt and bloodstains he had intentionally rubbed on in the alleyway. He curled up in the chair, his body trembling uncontrollably, as if he hadn't yet recovered from the "fright."

However, Li Guofeng and Zhao Qiang, who sat opposite him, had even more solemn expressions than last time. Their eyes held not just suspicion, but a scrutiny as if they were looking at a "monster."

"Zhang Cheng," Li Guofeng said, holding a fresh injury report with his brow furrowed into a deep frown, "your physical constitution is quite... unique, isn't it?"

Zhang Cheng's heart skipped a beat, but his face remained a mask of confusion and pain. He asked tremulously, "Officer Li... I... everything hurts... are my bones broken? Those bastards were so ruthless..."

"Broken?" Zhao Qiang sneered, slamming the injury report onto the table. "According to the hospital's examination, aside from soft tissue contusions and a few superficial wounds, not even a single bone is cracked! Your internal organs are perfectly intact! Wang Hu's gang kicked you with thick-soled work boots for a full five minutes! And this is all the injury you have? Have you practiced the Golden Bell Shield, or were they just tickling you?"

Zhang Cheng thought to himself: *Damn, I set the defense too high earlier and didn't leave any real injuries.*

But he reacted instantly, clutching his stomach with an even more distorted expression, crying out, "Officer! It really hurts! Maybe... maybe it's because I've been doing hard labor since I was a kid, so I'm thick-skinned? Or... or maybe they were too busy cursing and didn't kick me properly? I was covering my head, scared to death. How would I know how much force they used!"

Li Guofeng stared intently into Zhang Cheng's eyes, trying to find a single flaw. But unfortunately, all he saw in Zhang Cheng's eyes was fear, grievance, and the characteristic helplessness of a small person at the bottom of society.

"Fine, let's put the injuries aside for now." Li Guofeng took a deep breath and changed the subject. "Let's talk about Wang Hu."

Hearing the name "Wang Hu," Zhang Cheng visibly flinched. "He... wasn't he knocked down by those two kind-hearted brothers?"

"Kind-hearted brothers?" Zhao Qiang pointed at the projected photos on the wall, showing the gruesome scene. "That 'kind-hearted brother' with the steel pipe crushed someone's skull with a single blow! The one with the knife severed the tendons in two people's hands and feet! As for Wang Hu..."

Zhao Qiang paused, his gaze becoming strange. "Wang Hu is still in the intensive care unit and only woke up a moment ago. Do you know what the first thing he said was?"

Zhang Cheng shook his head cautiously.

"He didn't cry out in pain, nor did he curse. Instead, he screamed like a madman, 'Zhang Cheng is a devil,' 'He was smiling,' 'He did it on purpose.'" Zhao Qiang leaned forward, staring intently at Zhang Cheng. "He said those two men were brought there by you. He said that while he was begging for mercy, you walked over, slapped his face, and mocked him like a dog. Did that happen?"

Zhang Cheng was stunned.

A few seconds later, he suddenly "broke down."

"I've been framed! Officer!" Zhang Cheng cried, tears and snot flowing as he nearly jumped out of his chair in excitement. "Wang Hu is spouting nonsense! He was trying to kill me, would I dare mock him? Those two fierce guys were in a killing frenzy; I couldn't hide fast enough, let alone go near them! He's trying to drag me down with him! He's slandering me!"

"Captain Li..." Zhao Qiang turned to look at Li Guofeng.

Li Guofeng remained silent as he lit a cigarette.

Logic told him that Wang Hu's fear wasn't faked. But the evidence told him that Wang Hu was lying.

Because the surveillance at the alley entrance clearly showed those two "migrant workers" rushing in to save him and running away immediately after the fight, without stopping for a moment. Based on the timing, it was impossible for Zhang Cheng to have done any "mocking" in those few dozen seconds, unless he was pathologically perverted and could seamlessly switch between extreme fear and cold composure.

Furthermore, a victim who had just been brutally beaten going to mock a triad boss holding a weapon? It didn't make sense.

More importantly, those two mysterious "migrant workers" truly had no connection with Zhang Cheng. Even after searching the Skynet system, no prior contact could be found between the three of them.

All leads had gone cold once again.

"Fine, stop acting." Li Guofeng stubbed out his cigarette, his gaze complex. "Although I don't know how you did it, my intuition tells me this has everything to do with you. Wang Hu and his men may be scum who got what they deserved, but a society ruled by law has no room for 'vigilante justice'."

"You can go. But remember, Zhang Cheng, I'll be watching you. As long as you're still in the Dragon Kingdom, as soon as you slip up, I will personally arrest you."

...

It was late at night when he walked out of the police station's main gate.

A cool breeze blew, drying the fake tear stains on Zhang Cheng's face.

He wrapped his tattered jacket tightly around him and didn't rush to leave. Instead, he stood on the steps and looked back at the majestic national emblem of the police station.

"Phew..."

Zhang Cheng exhaled a long breath of turbid air, and his previously hunched back instantly straightened. On that face, which had just been filled with "fear" and "grievance," there was now only a cold indifference.

"Officer Li, your intuition is very accurate."

Zhang Cheng sneered inwardly.

"Unfortunately, in this game of rules, without evidence, you can't do anything to me. As for Wang Hu's accusations? Hah, who would believe the words of a triad madman who's been scared out of his wits?"

But he also knew very well that his days in the Dragon Kingdom were over.

Once is a coincidence, twice is luck, but a third time? Even without evidence, the relevant departments would take compulsory measures against him. A unique "constitution" and mysterious "helpers" were far too likely to attract the attention of the state machine.

"I must leave. The sooner, the better."

Just then, the phone in his pocket vibrated.

Zhang Cheng pulled out the phone with its already shattered screen. It was a text message. The sender was an unknown number, but the name made his eyes instantly narrow.

"Zhang Cheng, it's Lin Weiwei."

Lin Weiwei, his ex-girlfriend from university. The woman he once gave his heart to, only for her to dump him for being poor and run off with a rich second-generation heir.

"I heard you haven't been doing so well lately? I'm over here in Myanmar doing foreign trade with a big boss; the business is quite large. We just happen to need a reliable person to be an assistant, and since the boss trusts me, I recommended you. There are many opportunities here, with a starting salary of thirty thousand plus commissions. If you're willing to come, we... might even be able to start over. I miss you. [Heart]"

Looking at this text, a playful curve appeared at the corner of Zhang Cheng's mouth.

Foreign trade? Assistant? Thirty thousand a month? Starting over?

This script was practically a textbook "pig-butchering scam" bait!

He had long heard that Lin Weiwei went to the Yunnan area after graduation. He didn't expect she had been tricked into it, or perhaps she was simply a willing participant in the scams. Now, this sickle was actually swinging toward his own head.

If this were the old Zhang Cheng, he would certainly be angry, heartbroken, or even foolish enough to believe it.

But the current Zhang Cheng looked at this message as if it were a ticket to freedom.

He was just worrying about finding a legitimate reason to leave the police's sight and where to develop his own forces.

Myanmar, that chaotic land of warlords and lawlessness. To ordinary people, it was hell, but for him, who possessed the Death Soldier System, it was—heaven!

He would beat them at their own game!

Zhang Cheng's fingers tapped rapidly on the screen, his face showing a "simp-like" excitement and urgency as he replied:

"Weiwei?! Is it really you? That's great! I've been so unlucky lately, I lost my job and even got beaten up... Are you really willing to help me? I thought you had long forgotten me... I'm willing to go! As long as I can be with you, I'll go anywhere! What do I need to do?"

The fish had taken the bait.

Lin Weiwei on the other end was clearly very happy and replied instantly: "I knew you still had me in your heart. Don't hesitate, come quickly. Buy a plane ticket to Banna, Yunnan. Call me when you get there, and I'll arrange for someone to pick you up. Remember, don't tell anyone; this is our secret."

"Okay! I'll buy the ticket tomorrow! Weiwei, thank you, you're still the one who treats me best!"

After sending the text, Zhang Cheng tucked the phone back into his pocket.

He looked up at the inconspicuous black sedan under the distant streetlight; he knew Li Guofeng's men were inside.

Zhang Cheng directed a smile toward the car that an outsider wouldn't understand.

"Comrade police, goodbye. Lin Weiwei, thank you for your 'invitation.' Northern Myanmar... here I come."

He hailed a taxi and headed straight for the airport.
