323: The younger generation is truly formidable!

Lin You's paper had been read repeatedly by Professor Zheng and Professor Qi countless times. But listening to the author explain his ideas and steps one by one, the flawless rigor of the proof and the beauty of mathematics captivated the two old men.

Marvelous!

Absolutely marvelous!

When the two professors listened to "Teacher Lin" lecture, they were as serious as elementary school students, only raising their hands when they didn't understand something.

It wasn't until he finished that Professor Qi slapped his thigh, regretting, "Alas! I also tried to prove legendres conjecture, but why didn't I think of this approach?!"

Professor Zheng laughed heartily, "If you had thought of it, you would have already proven it and become an Academician."

That's a low blow, buddy!

However, it was clear that Professor Qi and Professor Zheng had a very good relationship, as they didn't mind such jokes.

After Lin You finished speaking, Professor Qi, who specialized in Number Theory, continued to ask questions about his own confusions.

When Lin You reached 100% progress on the legendres conjecture entry, the system supplemented him with all memory information streams.

Not to mention just Professor Qi, even if dozens of Number Theory experts surrounded Lin You with questions, Lin You wouldn't show the slightest bit of fear. On legendres conjecture alone, Lin You was the undisputed number one in the world!

Professor Zheng listened and watched from the side. His closed-door disciple had proven a century-old unsolved problem in the mathematical community. Even if its difficulty couldn't compare to the Millennium Problems, it was enough to make Professor Zheng feel shocked and happy.

Most of his life had passed. At sixty, Professor Zheng, though still involved in academia, had already felt his energy and mind declining, knowing that he wouldn't achieve much more in the future.

At this point, being able to cultivate an excellent student was an immensely joyful thing.

As for this student... he didn't really cultivate him much; it was much less trouble than cultivating Zhenyi... But never mind that, just tell me, am I Old Zheng a Bole or not?

How did I discover such a good student?!

This is called discerning insight!

Luck is also part of strength!

Hahahahaha!

Thinking these thoughts, Professor Zheng looked at Professor Qi's regretful and envious expression, suddenly experiencing double the joy.

When he was young, he sought joy by showing off; when he's old, he lets his disciple show off to gain joy~

Life is a continuous process of gaining joy from showing off.

Time for a big drink!

...After a long while, all the confusions accumulated over two days were resolved. Professor Qi sat back down, a satisfied expression on his face.

Listening to the truth, he was captivated, as if hearing celestial music that momentarily cleared his ears!

After a few seconds, Professor Qi sighed with emotion.

"The younger generation is truly formidable."

Lin You was only a freshman, and hadn't even finished his first semester.

Ordinary students were still getting used to their environment, struggling and getting lost in the relaxed and free university setting, tormented daily by the tug-of-war between self-control and freedom. But Lin You... had already achieved results that many old professors couldn't in their entire lives.

Who wasn't a genius in the eyes of others when they were young?

But that's how the human body is; no one can resist the erosion of time.

Old machines can be refurbished and have parts replaced, but humans... can only slowly accept their aging.

Professor Zheng's office had tea. Lin You, feeling thirsty from talking, thoughtfully poured three cups of water.

The three drank tea, and Lin You chatted about some anecdotes from solving problems in response to Professor Qi's questions.

Nearly three hours had passed since he arrived at Professor Zheng's office. As dinner approached, Lin You checked his phone and proactively asked, "Teacher, could you please review this paper for me again? Are there any areas that need revision? After all, this is my first paper, so I'm a bit rusty."

?

Professor Zheng was stunned.

What? My dear disciple, are you trying to show off to me now?

Your teacher is not a Number Theory expert, and as for paper writing... it's flawless.

If he hadn't witnessed Lin You's progress firsthand and just listened to Lin You's complete explanation of the paper, Professor Zheng would have almost thought it was a paper by an experienced veteran.

"Ahem... Lin You, your paper is already perfect. However, when did you learn academic writing?"

"Teacher, I participated in that mathematical modeling competition a while ago, didn't I? I studied a bit for the mathematical modeling paper."

A bit... Professor Zheng felt another pang in his heart and nodded, "This paper, have you thought about which journal to submit it to?"

Lin You quickly shook his head. After entering Nandu University, although he had read many journal papers and understood the top journals in mathematics, he had never published before and didn't know the specific conditions and details for journal submission.

Professor Zheng smiled and said, "Unless it's a journal that doesn't publish Number Theory, you can pick any other journal, and this paper will be published."

Lin You immediately offered emotional value, "Teacher, I don't understand anything yet. I'll listen to you."

Professor Zheng was greatly comforted, his eyes narrowing with a smile.

"Hmm, I think you should submit it to Annals of Mathematics. If you're going to submit, submit to a top journal. Although top journals have longer review periods, your paper is a major achievement, so it will likely be fast-tracked. As for the author, this paper is entirely your own work, so just put yourself as the sole author. Oh, how's your English proficiency? These journals all require an English version."

Lin You blinked and honestly said, "Teacher, I scored 150 on the College Entrance Examination English section."

Professor Zheng: "..."

Professor Qi: "Hahahahahaha!"

Regarding English, at first, Lin You still needed to rely on the Memory Technique to learn it.

However, now, Lin You's mind was no longer what it used to be. After more than a year of study and the development of entries, his memory had greatly improved.

Even if it couldn't compare to the powerful, bug-like mechanism of the Memory Technique, language subjects were now "mere trifles" before him, not worth mentioning. He could reach a usable level with just a little time.

Professor Qi raised his hand to look at his watch and smiled, "It's time, Old Zheng. I'll treat tonight, want to go for a drink together?"

After speaking, Professor Qi looked at Lin You, "Lin You, why don't you come along too?"

Lin You looked embarrassed upon hearing this. It wasn't that he didn't want to go, but... "Professor Qi, my girlfriend is also at our university. I've been home for a few days... and I've arranged to have dinner with her."

Professor Zheng quickly became protective, "Go, go, go! What would we old guys want Lin You for at dinner? To make a Gen Z listen to us reminisce about past hardships and sweet memories, telling old stories from decades ago?"

Professor Qi's favorability towards Lin You had been greatly boosted that afternoon. He didn't mind this at all and chuckled, "It's good to be young."
