35: Chapter 35 The God War Behind the Thriller Game
The 'main brain' of the Thriller Game is just a mindless program, but it has a self-correction mechanism.
Bringing you here by exploiting this bug caused too much of a stir. The system is already frantically patching things up. Once you return, even I won't be able to casually bring you over like this again for quite some time.
Pei Duo's heart tightened, the shock she felt moments ago instantly vanished, leaving only panic: "So... I'll have a very hard time seeing you again in the future?"
We can still meet, it's just not possible in the short term.
Pei Fei interrupted her sadness and pointed to the black jade pendant at her waist: "And this thing. It is indeed a clone of mine, but you must remember, it is not a perpetual motion machine."
Pei Fei raised his hand and pointed to the illusory dome above their heads. "My source power must constantly guard the Yin-Yang boundary to resist the impact from those bastards in the West. The power in the jade pendant lessens the more it's used. If you encounter those rule-based monsters that lack sentience and fear, it can only keep you from dying, but it won't be able to clear the field for you."
"Moreover, the Divine War will only become more intense," Pei Fei's voice grew heavy. "s-rank instance is just the newbie village."
With a wave of his hand, ferocious projections appeared in the air.
"As the Western Mythological System completely infiltrates, the difficulty of future instances will increase exponentially. SS-rank, Mythological-rank... Many monsters in the Western instances are the kin of Western Gods; they have a natural resistance to Eastern Divine Might."
Pei Fei looked at his sister's pale face. Though his heart ached, he had to be firm: "Brother can protect you for a while, but not for a lifetime. In this game, you must stand up on your own."
Pei Duo bit her lip, tightly clutching the corner of her clothes, and nodded heavily.
She didn't want to be a burden.
"Also, this Thriller Game is essentially a gamble."
Pei Fei revealed the truth that was enough to shatter the cognitive framework of all humans on Earth: "After Ragnarok, the world's rules shattered. Now, all major mythological systems are placing bets on which side's 'Chosen One' can reach the end, and whose Gods can reshape the rules of the new world."
"The Western Gods are casting a wide net, raising a batch of Gu worms."
Pei Fei's eyes were blazing, carrying an air of desperate dominance: "And the sole Chosen One of our Huaxia Underworld is you."
"Me?" Pei Duo's eyes widened as she pointed to her own nose. "I... I'm only in my sophomore year!"
"Yes, it's you." Pei Fei smiled, a little cunningly. "Since you are my only biological sister, who else would I open this backdoor for if not you?"
"I will now transmit an Art to you."
Pei Fei extended his finger and gently touched Pei Duo's brow.
A massive and obscure stream of information instantly flooded into Pei Duo's mind. It was an ancient, awkward incantation, along with the diagram of an extremely special sacrificial formation.
"This is called the 'Fengdu Sacrificial Art'."
Pei Fei withdrew his hand and explained: "The Thriller System's supervision is very strict. I cannot directly stuff artifacts from this treasury to you; that would be judged as cheating, and you would be instantly annihilated."
"But, sacrifice is different."
"This is a compliant channel. In the instance, no matter what junk you pick up—a broken stone, a dead person's bone, or even a monster's corpse—as long as you activate this Sacrificial Art and offer it to me..."
Pei Fei pointed to the mountain of treasures piled up around them, a wicked smile curling on his lips:
"I can then legitimately 'bestow' things from this inner treasury upon you under the guise of 'Divine Return Gifts'."
Pei Fei spread his hands and stated righteously: "As for the exchange rate? One-to-one conversion? No, it depends on your brother's mood. You give me a piece of broken stone, and if I'm in a good mood, I can bestow upon you the Xuanyuan Sword. That stubborn system can't interfere with a God being 'pleased'."
This was practically... cheating!
Pei Duo looked at the room full of treasures, her gaze instantly changing.
How was this junk? This was clearly the capital for her to walk sideways in the instances from now on! What vengeful spirits, what monsters—they were all walking 'currency'!
"There is one more thing you must remember."
"Duo Duo, after you return, you will inevitably attract the attention of the nation's special departments. The entire world saw the scene of Black and White Impermanence fetching someone on the live stream."
"They will test you, try to win you over, and even be wary of you."
A cold, imperial calculation flashed in Pei Fei's eyes: "If necessary, you can proactively hand over a portion of this 'Sacrificial Art' to the nation."
"Hand it over?" Pei Duo was startled.
"Yes, hand it over. But this set of techniques has two layers," Pei Fei sneered. "The sacrificial ritual performed by you is a dedicated line, going straight to my desk; whatever I give is up to me. The part you hand over is the 'Customer Service Line'."
"The nation can use this technique to exchange materials for the protection of the Underworld or some basic talismans and items. But I will assign these requests to the lower-ranking Yin officials to handle—strictly business, calculated by value."
This was an open stratagem.
Exchanging the monopoly rights of mythological resources for absolute security in the real world.
The nation gains the means to resist the bizarre, and the Pei family gains the nation's absolute protection—a win-win.
Pei Duo's heart raced as she listened.
Though she was simple, she wasn't foolish.
She understood the significance of her brother's painstaking efforts—this was placing the safety of the entire Pei family, and even the future of the entire Dragon Country, in her hands.
She was no longer just a survivor.
She was the bridge connecting the Yin and Yang worlds, the spokesperson for the Huaxia Underworld in the mortal realm.
"Brother, I understand."
Pei Duo took a deep breath, the childishness in her eyes completely fading, replaced by an unprecedented determination.
She clenched her fist and looked at her brother:
"I will protect it. For Mom and Dad, and for you."
