25: Delivery of commission, commission completed

Old William frowned, muttering to himself, as if talking to himself, and also as if asking Toke.

"That shouldn't be the case."

"Weeks Town hasn't offended any large Nightwalker settlements, and getting involved in delivery missions for such common ordinary goods doesn't yield much profit either."

"Under normal circumstances, Nightwalkers shouldn't be targeting these kinds of delivery missions."

"What could be the reason for this Nightwalker attack?"

After hearing Old William's muttering, Toke voiced his opinion:

"Old William, the Nightwalker attack encountered during the execution of this mission might just be an accident. You don't need to think too much about it."

"After all, among the Nightwalkers who attacked me, there were no veteran or elite Nightwalkers, they were all just ordinary individuals."

"It's clear that those Nightwalkers were a bunch of 'greenhorns' among the Nightwalkers."

"They might have formed a small team among themselves because their strength wasn't great and they weren't favored by veteran or elite Nightwalkers."

"After that, they might have happened to encounter me while I was delivering goods while wandering around the Badlands, and then attacked me with the fearlessness of newborn calves."

"Although my guess does sound a bit too coincidental, if those Nightwalkers came to steal supplies, disrupt the mission, or kill me and Valentine, then it makes even less sense."

"If it was to steal supplies or disrupt the mission, then even if those Nightwalkers succeeded, they wouldn't gain much, and they would offend Weeks Town, which wouldn't be worth it."

"If it was to kill me and Valentine, then even if Fang Yun hadn't come to help at the time, Valentine and I would have only been injured; we wouldn't have been truly pushed to a dead end by those Nightwalkers."

Speaking of this, Toke suddenly remembered that he hadn't introduced Fang Yun to Old William yet.

Toke extended a hand, introducing Fang Yun, who was standing at the door, to Old William:

"This is Fang Yun, the person I told you about earlier who helped Valentine and me kill the Nightwalkers."

Old William looked in the direction Toke was pointing and saw Fang Yun showing an awkward but polite smile.

After glancing at Fang Yun a few times, Old William turned his head back and said to Toke:

"I noticed him as soon as he came in. It seems I guessed correctly, he is the one who helped you."

Toke retracted his hand and shrugged.

"Do you even need to guess? We've known each other for so long, I definitely wouldn't bring an unrelated person to see you."

Old William nodded, then brought the topic back to the Nightwalker attack.

"Your guess also has some logic to it. Maybe I was overthinking."

Toke put on an expression that said, "You're right."

"So, the Nightwalker attack might indeed just be an accident."

"Furthermore, in the Badlands, who doesn't know the strength of the Buckle Family."

"There's a saying that goes: 'Better to offend a Nightwalker than a Wanderer.'"

"The retaliation of a large Wanderers Family can be terrifying."

After hearing Toke speak, Old William thought for a moment and stated his final decision:

"It seems this Nightwalker attack was just a coincidence."

"This mission is concluded. You did very well. I will tell the client to pay the full reward."

"I hope we have a pleasant cooperation next time."

Old William extended his hand and shook Toke's hand.

Toke also responded:

"Happy cooperation next time."

Then, he suddenly seemed to think of something and asked:

"Old William, the other delivery missions for Weeks Town didn't have any problems, did they?"

Old William paused, then slowly spoke:

"Although I can't tell you the specifics of the other delivery missions, for the sake of our friendship, I can tell you, no, there weren't."

Toke nodded slightly.

"I understand."

"It seems the Nightwalker attack I encountered was indeed a coincidence."

"Then, we'll be leaving now."

After speaking, Toke released his hand, turned around, and signaled to Valentine and Fang Yun that they could leave.

Fang Yun was closest to the door. Seeing that the mission delivery was complete, he immediately opened the office door.

The three left Old William's office, turned a few corners inside the government service center, and returned to the town street.

Fang Yun stood on the busy town street, asking Valentine and Toke:

"So, what are you planning to do next? Return to the Buckle Family camp? Or...?"

Toke laughed heartily, patting Valentine's shoulder and saying:

"It's late now, and Valentine and I don't have any other missions to complete, so, of course, we'll temporarily stay in Weeks Town for a night first."

Valentine rubbed her stomach and said:

"Before going to sleep, I want to eat something first. After fighting with the Nightwalkers, I'm starving now."

Toke also rubbed his stomach, indicating his agreement with Valentine's decision.

Although Fang Yun hadn't felt hungry yet, the thought of not having eaten cyberpunk world food made him decide to go eat something with Valentine.

"I haven't had dinner yet, and I'm quite hungry now too. I'll go eat something with you."

Hearing Fang Yun say this, Valentine asked:

"Uh, Fang Yun, didn't you say your car's navigation was broken? Although it's evening now, the repair shop should still be open. Do you need to go to the repair shop now and ask someone to fix your car?"

Fang Yun was startled, shook his head, and said:

"No need. The problem with my car's navigation was the loss of map data caused by not closing the windows when passing through a sudden sandstorm earlier."

"This also caused me to wander around the Badlands for several days."

"Didn't Valentine already send me the global map data and Night City data before?"

"With these two sets of map data, my car's navigation is already fine."

"As for the map data corresponding to the places I've been to, I'll have to wait until I have a chance to return to those places later to find a way to obtain it."

Valentine had an expression of sudden realization.

"So that's how it is."

Toke interjected at this point:

"I didn't expect you, Fang Yun, to have a bit of a poor sense of direction."

"After losing the map data, you actually wandered around the Badlands for several days and couldn't find your way out."

Fang Yun rubbed his head and gave an awkward smile. Then, his mind raced, and he added a patch to his "setting":

"Actually, there's a navigation program in my personal System, but I was being stubborn and didn't use it, so I wandered around in the Badlands for several days until I met you."

Hearing Fang Yun say this, Valentine found a blind spot.

"Fang Yun, since there's a navigation program in your personal System, then..."

"Isn't there a backup of the map data in your personal System?"

Hearing Valentine's question, Fang Yun stood rooted to the spot as if struck by a bolt from the blue.

['It's over. Is my "setting" about to be exposed?']

Just as Fang Yun stoodstupidly rooted to the spot without moving, Valentine and Toke exchanged glances, then sighed in unison.

"Sigh~"

Valentine walked up to Fang Yun and patted his shoulder.

"Fang Yun, try to be optimistic. Isn't there a saying that goes? Thestupider a person is, the happier they might be."

After speaking, Valentine patted Fang Yun's shoulder again, sighed, and walked away.

Toke also walked over, and like Valentine, patted Fang Yun's shoulder, then left without saying a word.

Although Toke didn't say a word, it was as if he had said everything.

Fang Yun stoodstupidly on the spot.

['Although my "setting" wasn't exposed, it seems I've been taken for an idiot.']

['...']

['Forget it, an idiot is an idiot.']

Fang Yun sighed, turned around, and jogged to catch up with Valentine and Toke.
