29: Chapter 29 Those who mess with me will regret it…

The next day. At high noon, the smell of blood drifted on the wind at the execution ground outside the Management Hall in the Servant District.

As the executioner's broadsword swept a chilling arc through the air, with a dull "thud," the head of Ji Boxiao—eyes wide open in eternal resentment—rolled away like a rotten watermelon.

The watching Menial Laborers had numb expressions; such scenes of public execution for damaging spirit fields were nothing new in the cold and ruthless Hehuan Sect Servant District, barely causing a ripple.

On the edge of the crowd, Qin Feng stood with his arms crossed, watching the scene with indifferent eyes, as if looking at a dead head of livestock.

Wu Mengmeng, standing beside him, didn't even flutter an eyelash. For her, the death of Ji Boxiao was merely shedding a useless, dead-weight burden.

Half an hour later, inside the Management Hall. Wu Mengmeng, suppressing the heart-wrenching pain, took out 800 servant coins from her bosom and respectfully handed them to the manager behind the desk. This was all the savings Ji Boxiao had hidden under his bed before he died...

"Considering your merit in reporting this, and that you did not participate in damaging the spirit fields, this Courtyard No. 77 will remain under your name, and your status as a Middle-tier Servant will be retained."

The guard in charge of the Management Hall weighed the heavy money bag, made a mark on the register with an expressionless face, and then coldly snorted: "As for the two mu of damaged spirit fields under Ji Boxiao's name, the Sect will handle them. Your allocated spirit fields will be assigned in a couple of days."

"Thank you, my lord! Thank you for your grace!" Wu Mengmeng bowed repeatedly and slowly backed away.

Walking out of the Management Hall, Wu Mengmeng let out a long sigh of relief. She turned to look at Qin Feng, who had been waiting outside, and her previously tense cheeks instantly blossomed into a charming, spring-flower-like smile.

"Little Feng, it's done. Thanks to your arrangements last night..." Wu Mengmeng leaned against him naturally, her voice so soft it could drip water.

"Let's go, back we go." Qin Feng nodded faintly, said nothing more, and turned to walk towards the Ding District.

Just as the two were walking back along a slightly wider bluestone path, a man and a woman appeared ahead.

The man had a burly build, a face full of flabby flesh, and muddy eyes filled with manic bloodshot veins, like a beast ready to devour anyone at any moment. It was Jia Da, whom they had met before.

Half a step behind Jia Da, Yu Jingxiang was wearing a rough gauze dress, her eyes lowered, her dignified and bright face revealing a deep sense of exhaustion and submissive misery.

Meeting on a narrow path, Jia Da had been preoccupied with the fact that a small part of his spirit field had mysteriously developed problems. He was racking his brain on how to grease palms at the Management Hall to cover it up, so as not to follow in the footsteps of Ji Boxiao. Just then, he looked up and happened to run into Wu Mengmeng coming the other way.

Seeing Wu Mengmeng in that red dress, which outlined her explosive figure to perfection, a look of extreme, lecherous greed flashed instantly in Jia Da's muddy eyes!

"Yo, isn't this Miss Wu?" Jia Da immediately stopped, blocking the path, and forced a nauseating smile onto his fleshy face. "I heard that blind waste Ji Boxiao just got his head chopped off at noon today?"

As he spoke, his unrestrained gaze wandered wantonly over Wu Mengmeng's high chest and slender waist. He smacked his lips and continued: "It's such a pity for a beautiful woman like Miss Wu to be a young widow. But don't worry, who in the Servant District doesn't know that I, Jia Da, am the most tender-hearted? If you have nowhere to go, you can tell me anytime. My door is always open to you, hahaha..."

Jia Da's words were full of undisguised hints and threats. In his view, with the loss of Ji Boxiao, Wu Mengmeng must have been reduced to a destitute Menial Laborer; if he just crooked his finger, this woman would surely crawl into his bed obediently.

However, facing Jia Da's harassment, Wu Mengmeng didn't give her usual standard, polite smile. She just replied coldly and indifferently: "No need to trouble yourself, Boss Jia. I have a man."

After saying this, Wu Mengmeng clung tightly to Qin Feng's sturdy arm, pressing most of her body against him, as intimate as could be. This simple action was like a loud slap, fiercely striking Jia Da's face!

The smile on Jia Da's face froze, then gradually vanished, replaced by a sinister look. He turned his head and finally sized up Qin Feng, who had been standing beside Wu Mengmeng, silent all this while.

"It's you, brat?!" Jia Da recognized Qin Feng instantly; it was the brat who had talked back to him outside his house last night!

"Damn it, a greenhorn who just settled in from the Intermediate Laborer District, not even fully grown, and you're already trying to act like a big shot?!"

Jia Da clenched his fists until they cracked, his violent Qi and blood of Mortal Rank 6 churning within him. If not for the fact that this place was too close to the Management Hall and private fights were strictly prohibited, he would have wanted to smash the little punk's head with one punch!

Facing Jia Da's murderous gaze, Qin Feng merely lifted his eyelids faintly, a coldness like looking at a dead man flashing in his deep eyes. "You'd best not provoke me; the only one who will regret it is you." Qin Feng smiled faintly, the corner of his mouth curling into a subtle, mocking smirk.

"What the f*ck did you say?!" Jia Da's pupils constricted sharply, enraged by the other party's posturing. However, Qin Feng didn't intend to pay him any more mind, simply letting Wu Mengmeng hold his arm as they strolled leisurely past him.

Just as they brushed past, Yu Jingxiang, who had been silently following behind Jia Da, couldn't help but look up and steal a glance at Qin Feng. In her clear, autumn-water-like eyes, complex and indecipherable emotions intertwined. Their gazes met briefly in the air. Qin Feng raised an eyebrow at her, and like a frightened rabbit, Yu Jingxiang hurriedly lowered her head, a faint blush instantly appearing on her fair neck.

"Little bastard... you just wait! I'll skin you alive sooner or later!!" Watching their retreating figures, Jia Da stood in place, growling through gritted teeth, the viper-like fire in his eyes nearly burning his reason to ashes.

Not long after, Qin Feng and Wu Mengmeng returned to the Ding District. When they reached a fork in the road some distance from Courtyard No. 77, Wu Mengmeng very sensibly stopped. She let go of Qin Feng's arm, turned around, and her peach-blossom eyes swirled with ripples as she blinked obediently.

"Brother Feng, I won't go over with you for now." Wu Mengmeng said in a sweet, soft voice, her tone filled with just the right amount of understanding. "There's still some junk Ji Boxiao left behind in my courtyard that needs cleaning up. I'll go back first to tidy up and prepare some hearty dishes for drinking."

As she spoke, she deliberately puffed out her chest and leaned in closer, her breath like orchids: "Brother Feng, why don't you and Sister Bai come over for a drink later... and help introduce me while you're at it. We'll all be sisters in the same family from now on; I know the rules and will never make Sister Bai Life Qi..."

She knew her position very well. Bai Yuhe was an old hand by Qin Feng's side, and since she had just come to seek refuge, if she rushed over rashly, it would surely cause exclusion. It was better to take the initiative to lower her posture and first establish the status of "sister in the family."

"Hm." Qin Feng nodded. He was quite satisfied with Wu Mengmeng's perceptiveness and sense of propriety. "Go ahead, I'll bring her over later."

After watching Wu Mengmeng leave with a swaying water-snake waist, Qin Feng walked alone towards Courtyard No. 77. Just as he reached the gate and before he could push it open, a sharp, ear-piercing noise, like a shrew cursing in the street, pierced through the courtyard wall and stabbed at his eardrums!

"Who do you think you are! A lowly maid who serves tea and water to inferiors, and you dare to block this Young Miss's path?!" Su Aili's hysterical screaming echoed in the courtyard, filled with righteous arrogance: "Make Qin Feng get out here! He clearly has top-quality blood ginseng in his hands, why won't he take it out to save my father?! If my father dies, you will all be buried with him!!"

"Shut your stinking mouth!" Immediately following, Bai Yuhe's voice, cold as frost and filled with biting killing intent, rang out: "If you dare to speak disrespectfully to my master again, I will tear your mouth apart today and peel off this annoying face of yours!"

"Aili, shut up, can't you say less?!" Su Yourong's anxious and hoarse admonishment mixed in: "Miss Bai, please don't lower yourself to her level; the child doesn't know any better. We are truly at our wit's end; I beg you, please pass word to Brother Qin..."

"Creeeeak—" Qin Feng pushed open the courtyard gate with an expressionless face and strode into the courtyard.
