6: Chapter 6 I Will Rewrite the Ending in This Life

Su Yun lay back on the bed and closed his eyes.

[Lord of Dreams] activated.

His consciousness dove like it was entering the deep sea, piercing through layers of mist, and finally locked onto his sister's dream in the room next door.

The next second, he opened his eyes.

Before him was a dim alleyway.

A familiar scene.

It was the place where he had encountered the Slit-Mouthed Woman this evening.

Su Yun frowned. Just as he was about to walk forward, he suddenly heard a heart-wrenching scream.

"Xiao Yun! Xiao Yun!!"

It was his sister's voice.

He turned his head abruptly.

Deep in the alley, Su Yao was kneeling on the ground, holding something in her arms, her entire body trembling violently.

Su Yun approached.

He saw clearly.

It was an arm.

The severed end was a bloody mess with white bone shards exposed. Fresh blood dripped down Su Yao's arm, pooling into a glaring red puddle on the ground.

And that hand was still clutching a mobile phone.

The screen was shattered but still lit up.

The lock screen wallpaper was a photo of his family.

Su Yun's breath hitched.

That was his phone.

In other words...

This arm was his.

"No... No..."

Su Yao clutched the severed arm, looking as if her Soul had been drained from her body.

Her face was covered in tear tracks, her eyes red and swollen to the point where she could barely open them, and her lips were pale from excessive crying.

"I'm sorry... I'm sorry..."

She repeated it over and over, her voice so hoarse it was almost unintelligible.

"It's my fault for being late... It's my fault for not protecting you..."

Su Yao lowered her head, pressing her forehead against the severed arm, her shoulders shaking violently.

"You said you were going to go to college... You said you were going to take me to see the sea... You said..."

Her voice grew fainter and fainter, until finally, only broken sobs remained.

Su Yun stood in place, his throat tightening.

Although he knew this was just a dream, the sorrow felt too real.

It was so real that he could almost feel the pain of his sister's heart being torn apart.

"Xiao Yun..."

Su Yao looked up, her gaze unfocused, as if searching for something.

"Where are you... Don't scare your sister..."

She struggled to stand up, but her legs gave way, and she slumped back onto the ground.

Blood soaked through her clothes, staining her hands red.

"Come out now... Sister was wrong... Sister won't ever be mean to you again..."

Su Yao's voice grew weaker, and her eyelids began to flutter.

She was reaching her limit.

Just then, heavy footsteps sounded from behind.

Su Yun turned around.

A tall figure emerged from the darkness.

It was his father, Su Jianguo.

He was wearing that pitch-black trench coat, his face devoid of any expression.

Su Jianguo walked to Su Yao's side and looked down at the severed arm in her arms.

Silence.

A deathly silence.

"Dad..."

Su Yao looked up, tears gushing out again.

"Xiao Yun, he... he..."

Before she could finish, her body suddenly went limp, and she collapsed backward.

The scene plunged into darkness.

Su Yun felt like he couldn't catch his breath.

It was just too real.

"Is this... the scene from this evening?"

He muttered to himself.

If he hadn't had his Awakening, he would indeed have been the one to die today.

And his sister would have broken down while holding his corpse.

"Why would she have a dream like this?"

Su Yun frowned.

Could his sister have the ability to foresee the future?

Was that why she saw this ending in advance and sent him that text message?

And why she rushed over so anxiously?

"Too bad her ability isn't accurate enough."

Su Yun laughed at himself.

"It didn't predict that I would have an Awakening today and even eat the Slit-Mouthed Woman for a meal."

He took a deep breath, preparing to activate [Lord of Dreams] again to completely clear away his sister's nightmare.

But just at that moment.

The dream scene twisted again.

The darkness faded, replaced by a sky of blood red.

Before Su Yun could react, the scene before him made his breath hitch.

It was the ruins of a city.

No, it should be said that it was the ruins of the entire world.

Skyscrapers had collapsed, the earth was cracked, and the air was filled with a nauseating stench of rot.

The sky had been torn open with countless fissures, from which twisted tentacles and light that could not be looked at directly poured out.

And in this apocalyptic scene, countless human powerhouses were fighting.

They wore all kinds of equipment; some held longswords, some controlled flames, and some were clad in Holy Light.

Everyone was fighting for their lives.

Desperately resisting that indescribable existence in the sky.

Su Yun's pupils shrank suddenly.

He saw Su Yao.

His sister was covered in blood, her longsword snapped in half, yet she was still fighting.

Beside her were others.

A man whose face was hidden in a hood, tall in stature, wielding a heavy revolver; every shot could shatter a portion of the Void Realm.

That aura?

"Dad?"

Su Yun's heart raced.

There was also a woman in a black cloak, surrounded by golden light, who could purify large areas of filth with every wave of her hand.

"Mom..."

And a girl with a ghostly figure, wrapped in pitch-black shadows, with countless sharp blades extending from her body, frantically cutting through the monsters pouring out of the fissures.

"Xiao Qing..."

Su Yun's throat tightened.

He even saw a man wearing a silver-white mask, dressed in a crisp suit, holding a long blade that emitted black energy.

"Big Brother?"

The whole family was there.

Except for him.

They fought with all their might, falling one by one.

Dad was pierced through the chest by a tentacle and slammed heavily to the ground.

Mom's Holy Light gradually dimmed; she knelt on the ground, blood spilling from the corners of her mouth, yet she continued to chant the incantation of purification.

Xiao Qing's shadows were torn apart, and she fell from the sky like a kite with a broken string.

Big Brother's blade broke; he used his last ounce of strength to throw the hilt toward the sky, then closed his eyes.

Finally, only Su Yao remained.

She stood upon the ruins, covered in wounds, yet still gripped the sword in her hand.

"Even if it means death..."

Su Yao looked up, her eyes filled with determination.

"I will drag you down with me!"

She swung her final sword strike.

The sword light soared into the sky, tearing through the blood-red heavens.

And just then, that indescribable existence in the sky finally cast its gaze over.

It was a twisted silhouette so massive it was incomprehensible, with countless tentacles dancing in the Void Realm, each one covered in eyes and mouths.

All of them looked at Su Yao.

The scene shattered completely at this moment, plunging into darkness once again.

"That is... me?"

Impossible.

How could I possibly turn into such a mindless thing?

How could I possibly destroy the world?

How could I possibly kill my own family?

Su Yun closed his eyes, forcing himself to calm down.

He recalled the scene he had just seen.

That indescribable existence was indeed him; he could sense it, but it also wasn't him.

"Did I lose control?"

Su Yun muttered to himself.

If the [Lord of Blind Idiot God] fully awakened and he lost his self-awareness, then only Chaos and madness would remain.

That would be the true "blind and idiot."

"So..."

Su Yun's breathing became rapid.

"Is this dream sequence coherent?"

"I was killed by the Slit-Mouthed Woman."

"Then the [Lord of Blind Idiot God] inside me lost the control of its host and went completely berserk?"

"And finally turned into that monster that destroyed the world?"

This deduction made his whole body go cold.

But that wasn't the most terrifying part.

The most terrifying part was...

"Why would my sister have such a dream?"

"Is this really a dream?"

Su Yun looked up abruptly.

It was impossible for her to have seen his fully awakened form.

Because that was something that would only happen in the future.

Because of his own uniqueness, even a prophetic dream probably couldn't show what his fully awakened form looked like.

Unless...

"She is a person of Rebirth."

Su Yun's voice was very soft, yet it felt like a heavy hammer striking his heart.

He remembered his sister's reaction this evening.

That breakdown, that fear, that relief of surviving a disaster.

If she were just worried about her younger brother encountering danger, she wouldn't have been so distraught.

Unless...

She had seen my death.

Su Yun took a deep breath and activated [Lord of Dreams] again.

This time, he read the memory fragments of Su Yao.

He didn't want to pry into his sister's privacy, but he had to confirm it.

Scenes flashed by.

He saw his sister kneeling in a pool of blood, weeping while holding his mutilated corpse.

He saw his sister swinging her sword in the ruins, trying with all her might to stop that monster.

He saw the moment his sister closed her eyes, her face filled with relief and despair.

Then, she experienced Rebirth.

Returning to before everything began.

Finally, he saw his sister planning for tomorrow, intending to go to the south of the city at noon to find a weapon called a sequence weapon.

Su Yun exited the memory, feeling as if his strength had been drained.

"So that's how it is..."

He leaned against the headboard, staring at the ceiling.

His sister is a person of Rebirth.

She had experienced that apocalypse.

She watched the world be destroyed.

Then, she came back.

Carrying those memories, carrying that pain, she returned to this point in time.

He remembered how his sister looked when she rushed into the alley this evening.

That madness, that fear, that recklessness.

It turned out it wasn't because she had the ability to foresee the future.

It was because she had experienced it.

Su Yun closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

"Family from my past life, I'm sorry."

"But in this life..."

He opened his eyes, a flicker of determination flashing through them.

"I won't let that happen again."

Since he had his Awakening early, and since he still retained his self-awareness, he would not walk the same path as his past life again.

He would control the [Lord of Blind Idiot God].

He would protect his family well.

He would ensure his sister no longer had nightmares.

Su Yun stood up and entered Su Yao's dream again.

This time, he didn't just watch.

Instead, he appeared directly inside the dream.

Su Yao was still kneeling in that alley, holding his severed arm, looking as if her Soul had been drained.

"Sister."

Su Yun walked up to her and crouched down.

Su Yao looked up abruptly, her eyes filled with terror.

"Xiao Yun?"

"It's me."

Su Yun reached out and gently wiped the tear tracks from her face.

"This is just a dream, Sister."

"No... it's not a dream..."

Su Yao grabbed his hand with enough force to almost crush his bones.

"You died... You really died..."

"I didn't die."

Su Yun held her hand, his voice very soft but carrying a certain soothing power.

"Look, I'm here."

"Living perfectly fine."

Su Yao was stunned.

She looked at the youth in front of her, that familiar face, those clear eyes.

"Is it... really you?"

"It really is me."

Su Yun smiled.

"Sister, you're too tired. It's time to rest."

He raised his hand and gently pressed it against Su Yao's forehead.

[Lord of Dreams] activated.

The entire dream began to disintegrate.

The bloody alley disappeared.

The severed arm disappeared.

In its place was a patch of warm sunlight.

Su Yao stood on a grassy field, a breeze blowing by, carrying the scent of grass.

"This is..."

"A good dream."

Su Yun stood beside her, looking at the distant sky.

"Sister, you've already worked very hard."

"From now on, let me protect you."

Su Yao turned her head, looking at the youth beside her.

His profile looked exceptionally gentle in the sunlight.

"Xiao Yun..."

"Hmm?"

"You..."

Su Yao opened her mouth but didn't know what to say.

Finally, she just reached out and hugged him tightly.

"Don't leave me."

"I won't."

Su Yun patted her back.

"This time, I won't let you be alone again."

The dream stabilized completely.

Su Yao's breathing gradually steadied, and the pained expression on her face disappeared.

Su Yun let go and exited the dream.

He opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling.

"Let the past life be in the past."

"In this life..."

He turned over and closed his eyes.

"I will rewrite the ending."
