189: Wolf pack in the minefield
With the goal established, everyone felt as if they had been injected with a shot of adrenaline!
To Argentina!
Find that building!
The fog was dissipating, and the dawn of hope was right before their eyes!
"Good! Let's do it!"
Stone clapped his hands heavily, his rugged face showing a long-lost excitement, sweeping away the gloom of the past few days.
The team immediately sprang into action.
That black-and-white family photo, carrying all their hopes, was carefully placed by Stone in a waterproof sealed bag and kept close to his body.
The button engraved with an "L," along with several key German documents found in the safe, were also properly packed and sealed. These were crucial pieces of the puzzle to unravel the mystery.
Wang Dalong, as if pumped full of adrenaline, seized the last moments, holding his camera as he frantically darted around the massive hangar.
"Click!"
"Click!"
He photographed those bizarre, saucer-shaped aircraft that defied the principles of aerodynamics from every angle, capturing as many shots as possible.
He knew that once these images were released to the world, they would be enough to trigger a magnitude-12 earthquake in the global aviation history and military fields!
These things were priceless treasures in themselves!
"Alright, prepare to evacuate!"
Stone glanced at the tactical watch on his wrist and issued the order in a deep voice.
Time waited for no one; they had to leave this trouble-ridden place, which held too many secrets, before nightfall.
Everyone quickly packed their equipment, checked their ammunition, made a final confirmation that nothing was left behind, and then headed toward the path they had come from—the "safe passage" they had blasted open with C4 explosives.
Everything seemed to be going so smoothly.
However, just as their feet were about to step out of the hangar door, ready to retrace their steps—
Boom—!!
A muffled explosion suddenly came from outside!
The entire base inside the mountain shook violently! Dust and rubble fell "showeringly" from the rock walls overhead!
The source of the sound... was precisely the direction of the deadly minefield they had just crossed!
"Enemy attack!"
Almost within a tenth of a second of the explosion, Stone, as a former elite of the British Special Air Service, reacted with his most instinctive response!
He roared, his voice shaking the entire hangar!
"Clatter—!"
The reactions of all the SAS Team Members were textbook-perfect, without a hint of hesitation.
They instantly raised their guns and, at the fastest speed, used the cover and terrain at the hangar entrance to establish a crossfire defensive position in less than three seconds!
The dark muzzles of their guns were uniformly aimed at the only passage outside!
"Gray Wolf! Hound! Take the high ground! Scout the situation!"
Stone's command was fast and urgent, yet crystal clear.
Two team members with the call signs "Gray Wolf" and "Hound" didn't waste a word; with a nod, their figures shot out of the hangar like cheetahs.
They didn't take the main path but instead, following the mountain roads they had observed on their way in, dashed like lightning toward the two abandoned 88mm Anti-Aircraft Gun emplacements on the hilltops on either side!
That was the commanding height of the entire area!
Lin Feng and Wang Dalong were protected at the rear by the remaining team members, forming a secure protective circle.
"What's going on?! What's going on?!"
Wang Dalong was so frightened by this sudden turn of events that his face turned pale, his voice trembling, "Could it be... could it be that those inhuman, ghostly mysterious organization has caught up?"
Lin Feng didn't speak.
He just furrowed his brows, his body tense, like a fully drawn bow, staring intently at the dark entrance outside.
The tense silence lasted only a few seconds.
The next moment, the walkie-talkie crackled with the urgent, almost distorted voice of the lookout "Gray Wolf" from the hilltop!
"Captain! Captain! There's activity on the outskirts of the minefield!"
"A Toyota SUV just triggered the anti-tank mine we laid and has been blown sky-high!"
"And!"
"Gray Wolf" on the other end of the walkie-talkie took a sharp breath, as if seeing something unbelievable!
"At the edge of the minefield, there are at least five more vehicles! All Pickup Trucks! They have... heavy machine guns mounted on them! I see someone carrying a Rocket-Propelled Grenade Launcher! They're advancing toward our direction!"
RPG!
Heavy machine guns!
Hearing these words, everyone's hearts sank to the bottom!
This wasn't some minor skirmish, nor was it a gang fight!
This was a formal, premeditated, militarized attack!
"Did you see who they are?!" Stone growled into the walkie-talkie, the veins on his neck bulging.
"Can't see specific markings! Too far away! But judging from their attire and equipment... they look like local militants or... Mercenaries!"
"Damn it!"
Stone punched the nearby wall hard, cursing.
They were surrounded.
The enemy clearly knew about this base's existence and had come prepared.
Moreover, they chose to attack from the outskirts of the minefield, indicating they likely didn't know the exact entrance to the base and were conducting a carpet search. But the anti-tank mines they themselves had laid had accidentally exposed their position!
Now they were done for!
In a head-on confrontation, with just a few of them, plus two "civilians," facing a group of desperadoes equipped with heavy machine guns and RPGs, they stood no chance!
"Brother Feng... Brother Feng, what do we do? We... we're like fish in a barrel now!"
Wang Dalong was almost crying, his voice filled with despair.
A sense of despair spread among everyone.
The way forward was blocked, and behind them was the bottomless base—they were trapped here!
Just as everyone felt there was no way out,
Lin Feng, who had been silent all along, slowly, slowly raised his head.
His gaze passed over the tense, confronting crowd before him, over the pitch-black entrance, as if piercing through the thick mountain rock, finally... landing on the two anti-aircraft gun emplacements on the hilltop, silent like steel behemoths under the setting sun.
He picked up the walkie-talkie, his voice icy cold.
"Gray Wolf, can those guns still be used?"
The team member "Gray Wolf" on the other end of the walkie-talkie was clearly taken aback.
Guns?
What guns?
Then, in an instant, he understood what Lin Feng was referring to! The two legendary 88mm Anti-Aircraft Guns produced by the German company Krupp on the hilltop!
He instantly perked up!
His voice was excited, almost cracking!
"Reporting, sir! We checked them earlier while we were at it!"
"The guns are in perfect condition! German craftsmanship is excellent! The barrels are clean, the mechanical structures intact! Most importantly, the ammunition depot nearby is fully stocked! High-Explosive Shells, Armor-Piercing Shells, you name it!"
"Ready to fire at any moment!"
"Ready to fire at any moment!"
These six words lifted everyone's spirits!
A cold, ruthless smile slowly curled at the corner of Lin Feng's mouth.
He turned to look at Stone, whose face was filled with shock. His words left no room for discussion; it was a direct notification.
"Let them find out why the flowers are so red."
