Chapter 181 Heartbeat
"You are a smart person."
Mrs. Angela picked up the teapot, added some tea to Mr. Lin's cup, and her tone softened considerably.
"I originally thought you either had some crooked way of cheating,"
"Or your luck was just ridiculously good. I didn't expect you to rely on clarity and courage."
Mr. Lin took the teacup and bowed slightly:
"Thank you for your recognition, Mrs. Liang."
"I just understand that if one often walks by the riverside, one's shoes are bound to get wet. Instead of being insatiably greedy, it's better to know when to stop."
Mrs. Angela nodded, the scrutiny in her eyes fading completely, replaced by clear appreciation:
"Young man, having this kind of character is better than anything else."
"When I was your age, I wasn't as transparent as you."
She paused, her tone shifting slightly,
"The money you've won over these seven days isn't small, but to me, it's not much either."
"I appreciate your clarity and courage. Are you interested in staying to help me?"
Mr. Lin was stunned; he never expected that,
Not only was he not made things difficult for, but he had actually gained Mrs. Angela's appreciation,
And was even invited to stay and help.
He calculated quickly: who was Mrs. Angela?
She was a big shot in the Macau gambling circles.
Following her would certainly grant more resources and opportunities, but it also meant being drawn into more disputes.
Seeing his hesitation, Mrs. Angela didn't force him, she just smiled:
"I won't pressure you; you can think it over carefully."
"Whether you agree or not, you can take the money you won today with peace of mind."
"I won't stop you, nor will I let anyone cause you trouble."
Mr. Lin suddenly snapped back to his senses, a thin layer of sweat breaking out on his back.
Mrs. Angela's searching gaze just now had almost pierced through the secret hidden in the depths of his eyes.
He quickly stood up, his back straight, his tone respectful but not at all subservient,
Even carrying a bit of the raw confidence a college student should have:
"Thank you for your favor, Mrs. Liang."
Pausing, he deliberately slowed his speech, putting on an air of simple-mindedness:
"It's just that I'm only a freshman. At this stage, I still have to put my studies first."
Then he changed the subject, giving her plenty of face,
"When I finish my studies in the future, I'll definitely come to learn from you, Mrs. Liang, at the first opportunity. I'll need your guidance then."
Mrs. Angela sat upright on the leather sofa, her fingertip lightly tapping the edge of a tablet.
Hearing this, she nodded with satisfaction, the scrutiny in her eyes fading a bit more,
And her tone softened further:
"Mhm, not bad, not bad. Young people should have this drive; focusing on studies first is definitely right."
She looked up at the bodyguard standing straight nearby and tilted her chin slightly,
Her tone returning to its usual commanding presence:
"Escort Mr. Lin out. Remember, there must not be the slightest neglect."
"Yes, Mrs. Liang!"
The lead bodyguard quickly complied, his tone so respectful he didn't dare be careless,
He turned and made a standard 'please' gesture to Mr. Lin,
Without a hint of disdain in his eyes.
To be personally instructed by Mrs. Liang like this, this young man was definitely not as simple as he appeared on the surface.
Mr. Lin suppressed the urgency in his heart and walked out of the office step by step.
Just as his foot stepped onto the carpet at the entrance, he couldn't help but glance back.
In the office, Mrs. Angela was looking down at her tablet, her expression as calm as a deep pool,
But the aura she radiated still made his heart tighten.
He heard Mrs. Angela's low murmur from behind; it wasn't loud,
But it happened to drift into his ears:
"This Lin Chen surely hides an unspeakable secret."
After a pause, there was a light chuckle,
"Oh well, everyone has their own story, and besides, he didn't break the casino's rules. There's no need to look deeper."
Mr. Lin's heart eased, and his pace quickened a bit.
Fortunately, no flaws were seen.
After being escorted out of the office suite by the bodyguard, he could no longer maintain his composure. He almost sprinted toward the elevator, with only one thought in his head: leave quickly, this is no place to linger.
On the way back to the hotel room, his eyes never left the rearview mirror, and his palms were clenched with sweat.
As soon as he rushed into the room, he grabbed his pre-packed luggage and, without even having time to close the door properly, hurried toward the pier.
In the taxi, he still looked back from time to time, muttering under his breath:
"Good, good, no one is following."
He couldn't help but click his tongue in lingering fear,
"I didn't expect information to flow so freely between these casinos and for them to be so closely connected. Even if I have that prediction ability, I absolutely cannot come to a casino again. It's too risky!"
Only after boarding the ferry and feeling the sea breeze did Lin Chen finally calm down a bit.
He pulled out his phone and quickly sent a message to Shen Nian,
His tone carrying a hint of subtle urgency and a bit of excitement:
"I'll be in Hong Kong soon. Let's go to the airport duty-free shop first to look around and buy some things, then take the 6:00 PM flight back to Star City. Don't wait for me!"
Not even half a minute after the message was sent, the phone vibrated. It was Shen Nian's reply, with a touch of playfulness:
"Got it! Feifei and I are already at the duty-free shop, we've been browsing for ages!"
Lin Chen looked at the screen, his lips curling up unconsciously as he replied with two words:
"Alright then!"
...
When Lin Chen arrived at the airport duty-free shop, he saw Shen Nian and Chu Feifei from afar, carrying shopping bags of all sizes,
Standing in front of the cosmetics counter with faces full of excitement.
Chu Feifei was still trying on lipstick in front of a mirror, while Shen Nian laughed and teased her from the side; the scene was exceptionally lively.
Lin Chen walked over and joked with a smile:
"Not bad, you two. Are you planning to empty out the duty-free shop?"
"I can tell you're having a great time shopping."
He paused, making a small calculation in his mind.
He should take this opportunity to buy some gifts to take back,
And bring some for those girls in Star City too. After all, for women, regardless of whether the gift is expensive or not, it's the thought that counts.
So he continued: "How about this, you two go check in first, and I'll buy a few more things to mail home."
As soon as he said this, Chu Feifei spun around, her eyes full of suspicion like a bristling kitten,
And retorted with a sarcastic tone:
"Who are you buying for? Is it for Chen Qian?"
"Or maybe those Pretty Twins in your class who are so close to you? Are you buying gifts for them?"
Lin Chen's heart skipped a beat, and his back went cold instantly. He cursed inwardly:
"Damn, is Chu Feifei's sixth sense that sharp?"
"She can even guess that?"
He forced himself to stay calm, squeezing out a smile that looked as natural as possible, and feigned innocence:
"Look at what you're saying. What Chen Qian, what twins? I'm buying some gifts for my parents."
"They haven't really used these duty-free things much, so I'm bringing some back to show some filial piety."
Upon hearing this, Chu Feifei immediately deflated, realizing she had wrongly accused him,
And after her sarcastic outburst, she quickly shrunk her neck, scratched her head, and her tone softened:
"Hehe, is that so?"
"Then let me help buy some things for your parents too. Just consider it a gesture from me, your future daughter-in-law."
