65: Chapter 65 Repelling the Messenger of Will

Highway 17 was longer than Chen Mo had imagined.

After driving for a whole day, the roadside had nothing but abandoned vehicles and wild grass; not even a single Ghost Shadow was to be seen.

The person who delivered the note had long since disappeared, as if they had evaporated into thin air.

Chen Mo pulled the pickup truck over to the side of the road and killed the engine.

"Rest for a while," he said.

Lin Wei nodded and leaned back against the seat, closing her eyes to rest.

Chen Mo pushed open the door and stepped out.

On both sides of the highway lay an endless wasteland, with withered yellow grass swaying in the wind. In the distance, the outlines of some buildings could be vaguely seen, resembling an abandoned village.

He activated Time Perception.

Within a fifty-meter radius, there was nothing.

But just as he was about to retract his perception, a point suddenly appeared.

Behind him.

Very close.

Less than ten meters away.

Chen Mo spun around instantly, cleaver in hand.

Someone was standing there.

A woman.

She was wearing white clothes, her long hair draped over her shoulders, and her face was pale.

The Emissary of the Will.

The exact same one as last time.

She looked at Chen Mo, a strange smile hanging on the corners of her lips.

"We meet again."

Chen Mo did not speak.

He simply gripped the cleaver, staring at her.

The Emissary of the Will took a step forward.

"The Will asked me to pass on a message to you—"

"You have been marked for special attention."

She raised her hand.

The air around them instantly froze.

Within Time Perception, those temporal rifts began to move frantically, converging toward her.

Chen Mo activated Prediction.

In ten seconds, she would launch an attack.

The range was huge; he could not dodge it.

But ten seconds later would also be her most vulnerable moment.

Because those temporal rifts would consume her energy.

Chen Mo did not move.

He waited.

Five seconds.

Six seconds.

Seven seconds.

The hand the Emissary of the Will had raised began to glow.

Eight seconds.

Nine seconds.

Ten seconds.

She moved.

Those temporal rifts exploded simultaneously, spreading in all directions.

But Chen Mo was faster.

He activated Infiltrator and vanished from where he stood.

Seven seconds of invisibility.

Those temporal rifts lost their target and darted about in the air.

Seven seconds later, Chen Mo appeared behind the Emissary of the Will.

He slashed down with his blade.

It hit.

The white clothes were split open, revealing what was underneath—

Not skin, but golden lines.

Dense, intricate golden lines, like a human form woven from gold thread.

The Emissary of the Will let out a miserable scream, and her body began to disintegrate.

But halfway through the disintegration, she stopped.

Those golden lines re-condensed, turning back into the shape of that woman.

But she was much fainter than before.

She looked at Chen Mo, with something unreadable in her eyes.

"You are strong."

"But the Will will not give up."

She disappeared.

Chen Mo stood where he was, watching the mist dissipate.

【Repelled the Emissary of the Will】

【Mark of the Will enhanced: Hostility of all Ghost Shadow significantly increased】

Chen Mo looked at those words.

Special attention.

It was indeed different now.

Last time he was just marked; this time he was under special attention.

What did that mean?

It meant that the Ghost Shadow he encountered in the future would be stronger, more numerous, and crazier.

It also meant—

The rewards would be greater.

Chen Mo turned around and walked back to the pickup truck.

Lin Wei had already woken up and was looking at him.

"Was it that one again?"

Chen Mo nodded.

"What did she say?"

"Special attention," Chen Mo said. "From now on, all Ghost Shadow will actively seek me out."

Lin Wei was silent for a few seconds.

"Then what should we do?"

Chen Mo started the engine.

"Kill them."

The pickup truck rushed onto the highway.

Over the next three days, Chen Mo did not stop.

On the first day, he encountered seven waves of Ghost Shadow.

Five waves of F-rank, two waves of E-rank.

He killed them all.

He gained forty-two fragments.

On the second day, he encountered nine waves.

Six waves of F-rank, three waves of E-rank.

He killed them all.

He gained fifty-eight fragments.

On the third day, he encountered twelve waves.

Eight waves of F-rank, four waves of E-rank.

He killed them all.

He gained seventy-six fragments.

Over the three days, he killed a total of twenty-eight Ghost Shadow.

He gained one hundred and seventy-six fragments.

Adding those to his previous total, he now had five hundred and thirty fragments.

Lin Wei looked at him, her gaze becoming increasingly complex.

"Aren't you tired?"

Chen Mo shook his head.

Tired.

But he could not stop.

Because if he stopped, he would be surrounded.

Those Ghost Shadow would not give him a chance to catch his breath.

Only by constantly killing and moving forward could he survive.

On the evening of the third day, Chen Mo parked the car at an abandoned gas station.

He leaned against the seat, eyes closed.

He had quite a few injuries, but none were fatal.

Lin Wei was beside him, bandaging his wounds.

"Do you intend to keep going like this?"

Chen Mo did not answer.

He was thinking.

Special attention.

All Ghost Shadow would actively seek him out.

What did that mean?

It meant he no longer needed to look for Ghost Shadow.

The Ghost Shadow would deliver themselves to his doorstep.

As long as he was alive, as long as he was moving, there would be an endless stream of Ghost Shadow coming to their deaths.

This was not passive defense.

This was active hunting.

It was just that the prey was running to him on its own.

Chen Mo opened his eyes.

"Tomorrow, we go deeper."

Lin Wei was taken aback.

"Deeper?"

"Yes," Chen Mo said. "Since they want to kill me, let them come."

He paused.

"No matter how many come, I will kill them all."

Lin Wei looked at him.

In those eyes, golden light danced in the darkness.

She knew that once he had decided on something, no one could stop him.

She nodded.

"Okay."

Outside the window, the Ghost Night continued.

The wailing sounds were getting closer.

But Chen Mo was not afraid.

He was waiting for them to come.
