111: Section 111
Sure enough, as the believers entered the cathedral, they saw Mark standing on the steps from afar.
Beside Mark stood Jing Yuan, dressed in a black robe.
"City Lord Mark!"
"Lord City Lord!"
Some among the believers hurried to salute Mark; since he had already ascended to the position, there was nothing left to dispute.
Those who understand the times are wise.
These believers were a mere rabble; as long as one person saluted, everyone else would follow suit.
This influence continued to spread, and even if a few extremists still disagreed in the end, it didn't matter—they would simply be purged.
"People of the lord of light and shadow!" Mark announced loudly from the steps. "I believe you already know that Charles has abandoned his faith in the lord of light and shadow. To seize the position of City Lord, he did not hesitate to launch a coup and slaughter his fellow countrymen. But all of this was seen through by the lord of light and shadow. Charles's failure is also the lord of light and shadow's punishment for him! Now, the lord of light and shadow has chosen a new spokesperson."
Mark pointed at Jing Yuan. "Jing Yuan will be the new Leader of the Light and Shadow Society."
"I disagree!" someone immediately shouted from below. "The Leader has never been someone who can be appointed!"
"This was appointed by the lord of light and shadow! Do you think even the lord of light and shadow cannot appoint a candidate for the Leader?" Mark began to argue.
"City Lord Mark, you are the successor appointed by City Lord Morgan, and we have no objection to you succeeding as City Lord. But who can prove that Jing Yuan is the Leader appointed by the lord of light and shadow?"
Jing Yuan looked down. "How do you want me to prove it?"
The person below didn't know how to prove it either; he was merely voicing his opposition.
Jing Yuan looked at the many believers below and said, "Why not let the former Leader, Charles, help me prove it! Bring Charles up!"
As soon as Jing Yuan finished speaking, two Wasteland Hunters escorted Charles inside.
When Charles entered, many believers were still calling out, "Lord Leader!"
Charles looked at the two standing in the high position and sneered, "Do you think my Light and Shadow Society is something you can control?"
"Your Light and Shadow Society?" Jing Yuan chuckled. "Since when did the Light and Shadow Society become yours?"
With a wave of Jing Yuan's hand, a rag flew out of thin air toward Charles and was stuffed directly into his mouth.
Charles was not bound, so seeing the rag in his mouth, he quickly pulled it out with his hand.
But the rag he pulled out immediately slipped from his hand.
This time the rag unfurled and bound Charles's mouth tightly.
Charles tried to pull it off again, but found that he couldn't move it this time.
Jing Yuan didn't want to waste words with him.
He waved his hand again, and a dense swarm of blades flew through the air.
These blades, like well-behaved children, came before Jing Yuan and assembled into a disc.
Jing Yuan stepped onto the disc and used it to fly into the air.
He came before Charles and waved his hand again; an iron whip flew over and bound Charles's body.
Using Telekinesis, Jing Yuan lifted Charles into the air.
Flight! Telekinesis!
To ordinary people, these were methods that only a god could possess.
Jing Yuan said to the believers below, "Look, if the lord of light and shadow had chosen Charles, how could he be played with in the palm of my hand like this?"
"You are a demon!" one of Charles's followers rushed out and cursed at Jing Yuan.
Jing Yuan waved his hand, and another iron whip struck out, sending the man flying.
Seeing this scene, no one dared to move recklessly.
Jing Yuan continued, "If I am a demon and Charles is the spokesperson of the lord of light and shadow, then... the lord of light and shadow will surely step in to save him!"
With that, Jing Yuan began to tighten the force of the iron whip.
The pampered and soft-skinned Charles had never suffered such hardships.
As the iron whip tightened, he began to struggle.
Seeing this, the faith of Charles's followers collapsed instantly.
The reason they had believed in Charles was that they truly treated him as a god.
But how could there be such a weak god!
This was clearly just a mortal.
As for the man flying in the air beside him, let alone a spokesperson, they would have believed it even if he were called a god.
"Jing Yuan, that's enough."
Seeing Charles struggling, Mark couldn't bear it for a moment and told Jing Yuan to stop.
With a wave of his hand, Jing Yuan sent Charles directly outside the cathedral.
The cathedral doors closed automatically.
Jing Yuan looked at the believers below and asked, "As the spokesperson of the lord of light and shadow, who else does not believe?"
...Chapter 114: Examination
In the eyes of those believers, Jing Yuan's Superpowers were miracles.
Those believers who were bound together by faith were instantly won over by Jing Yuan's miracles.
As for those believers bound by the benefits Charles provided, they were detained as necessary.
With the Light and Shadow Society stabilized, the Lighthouse wouldn't fall into great chaos.
After resolving everything, Jing Yuan and Mark walked out of the cathedral.
From yesterday until now, Jing Yuan hadn't rested for a single moment.
With his physique, he could have endured it, but he had been infected with crimson toxin after all.
Having held on until now, even Mark felt surprised.
As Jing Yuan's mind relaxed, he suddenly went limp.
Mark hurried forward to support him. "Let's go to the Medical Clinic!"
Jing Yuan felt he would be fine after a sleep, but to be safe, he went to the Medical Clinic... Inside the Medical Clinic.
Hearing that Jing Yuan had been infected with crimson toxin, Dr. Carrie was so excited that she personally came to examine him.
For patients with xinghong disease, Carrie was undoubtedly the person with the most contact.
During the Court Council earlier, Carrie hadn't noticed that Jing Yuan was infected with crimson toxin.
Jing Yuan's performance was also unlike those suffering from xinghong disease.
After checking Jing Yuan's physical signs, Carrie said, "You were infected with crimson toxin on The Surface, fought with the Ground People, and then came back to fight with Charles. After running around for so long, how do you look like you're in an infected state?"
Jing Yuan smiled weakly. "The dosage was probably insufficient, so the symptoms are mild. You're a scientist; you should understand that talking about toxicity without considering the dosage is just being a hooligan."
"That's right!"
"Jing Yuan's physical fitness is higher than average, so his body's immune mechanism should also be stronger."
Carrie looked at Jing Yuan and said, "In the past, when we faced cases of xinghong disease, we found that the immune system didn't respond. So we suspect that crimson toxin infection is not the same as a viral infection. I want to draw some blood for further study."
Jing Yuan hesitated for a moment but then said, "Go ahead and draw it!"
Carrie had a nurse come over to draw blood, filling several test tubes!
Jing Yuan joked, "Are you trying to drain me dry?"
Carrie replied dismissively, "For someone your size, we're far from draining you dry!"
Carrie performed several tests using Jing Yuan's blood. While the others were hard to understand, one test was clearly a genetic test.
Jing Yuan and Mark looked at each other and then smiled.
Jing Yuan laughed, "Dr. Carrie, you really suspect I'm not human! You're even giving me a DNA test!"
Carrie remained calm and indifferent. "The abilities you've shown are far beyond common sense; it's only natural for me to be suspicious. However, from the results of the genetic test, you are one hundred percent human. But then, why do you have Superpowers?"
"Existence itself is its own justification; why do you need to delve so deep?"
"Science craves the pursuit of truth. Moreover, if your abilities could be replicated, wouldn't our hopes of reclaiming The Surface be much greater?"
Just then, Carrie's assistant walked over. "Dr. Carrie, we've detected components of crimson toxin in Jing Yuan's blood. However... the white blood cells in his body are devouring the crimson toxin. At this rate, it should be cleared out on its own very soon."
Carrie was also somewhat surprised. "Self-immunity?"
"It seems so!"
"Jing Yuan's cell activity far exceeds that of a normal person. I suspect this might be why his immune system can clear the crimson toxin."
