69: Section 69
"That works," Snow Peak said. "I'll take Kun Jie, Gao Ge, and the others to the Survival Base. You and Jing Yuan head to the spaceship."
"But..." Mark hesitated for a moment.
Snow Peak teased, "What, don't trust us old guys?"
"No." Mark was indeed a bit overly worried, but considering Snow Peak and the others were experienced, he agreed to this plan.
Jing Yuan wasn't worried, because he knew Snow Peak and the others would definitely return safely.
Their fatal encounter was during that trip to the Dense Ecological Zone to find medicine for Morgan.
Coming out of the Command Center, Jing Yuan originally wanted to find Mark to discuss something, but he received a message.
After reading the message, Jing Yuan was stunned in place.
"The Hall of Dawn again?"
Chapter 70: It's All Been Arranged
Jing Yuan stood at the entrance of the Command Center, even looking back at Jing Nan.
Is Charles being this good to him?
Arranging the Hall of Dawn every day?
Although his eighteen-year-old body had no problem going every day, this whole thing felt strange from top to bottom.
"I'll go then!"
Jing Yuan let out a long sigh and then chased after Mark.
"Captain!"
Mark stopped and looked back at Jing Yuan. "What is it?"
Jing Yuan said, "Captain, could I ask a favor of you?"
"Go ahead."
"For this mission, don't assign Penny."
Mark thought for a moment and shook his head. "Sorry, we lost quite a few people on the last mission, and we're short-handed now. This mission requires a lot of manpower, so it's impossible to leave Penny behind alone."
Jing Yuan smiled wryly; leaving Penny behind wouldn't be that easy.
"Why do you want to leave Penny behind?"
This... how should Jing Yuan explain?
"It's nothing, I just promised to let her rest during the previous mission to The Surface."
At this point, explaining too much to Mark was useless; it was better to just bluff his way through.
Mark patted Jing Yuan on the shoulder and said, "If this mission is successful, we should be able to rest for a long time."
Jing Yuan looked at Mark and thought:
Rest?
After returning from this mission, Charles would start a series of operations to kill Mark.
Jing Yuan also had to prepare early... That night, Jing Yuan arrived at the Hall of Dawn again.
Having come here consecutively recently, he felt like the Hall of Dawn was like home.
He walked into the Golden Hall with ease and saw his mission target; as expected, it was still Jing Nan.
Jing Nan was very surprised.
Jessica said that the target for each mission was different, so why did she encounter the same person consecutively?
But thinking back to last night's experience, Jing Nan actually felt a bit of anticipation.
Arriving at the Hall of Dawn, Jing Yuan didn't think about anything else.
He had only one thought: to focus on the mission.
Everything else would have to wait until after the mission was over.
After a fierce battle, Jing Yuan withdrew and lay limp on the large Golden Bed.
By now, those Law Enforcers had already left.
Only the two of them remained in the hall.
"Lady Jing Nan, can we talk in a moment?"
Wearing a mask, Jing Nan's pupils constricted upon hearing this.
He actually spoke her name in the Hall of Dawn!
Wasn't that seeking death?
But Jing Nan quickly calmed down and said coldly, "Outside of the Breeding Mission, we cannot have any other contact. You should understand this!"
"I understand! However, what I have to say might be very important to you!"
Jing Nan looked at Jing Yuan; his words indeed piqued her curiosity.
"Fine."
After Jing Yuan walked out of the Hall of Dawn's entrance and waited for a while, Jing Nan finally came out.
After Jing Nan came out, neither of them spoke, walking one after the other.
Seeing that Jing Yuan remained silent, Jing Nan became a bit anxious and was the first to ask, "What do you want to say?"
Jing Yuan swept the area with his Mental Power and found someone nearby. He quickly said, "This isn't the place to talk."
Jing Nan also understood, turned around, and continued walking forward. "Then follow me!"
Jing Yuan hadn't expected Jing Nan to bring him to her residence.
Jing Nan's residence was clearly of the highest class, much larger than Jing Yuan's or Mark's, comparable to a two-bedroom apartment from the old world.
The interior was exquisitely decorated, showing that Jing Nan was someone who loved life in private.
Jing Nan looked at Jing Yuan, the lingering heat from their physical intimacy not yet faded. For a moment, she actually hoped Jing Yuan would rush over, pick her up, and throw her onto the bed... Jing Nan quickly shook off these thoughts and looked at Jing Yuan, asking, "What exactly do you want to say?"
Jing Yuan sat down on the sofa nearby and looked at Jing Nan, saying, "Not long ago, Charles tried to recruit me to work for him. I set a condition: if Fan Lü, Vandy, and you, the three of you, accompanied me to the Hall of Dawn, I would agree to work for him!"
Jing Yuan spoke very calmly, but these words set off a stormy wave in Jing Nan's heart.
According to the three great laws, all men and women of the right age must go to the Hall of Dawn to perform Breeding Missions.
Jing Nan appreciated Jing Yuan; he was young, capable, and handsome enough.
Encountering Jing Yuan for the mission, Jing Nan could accept it in her heart.
But now Jing Yuan told her that the mission wasn't random, but deliberately arranged.
Moreover, she had unknowingly become a bargaining chip in someone else's deal.
Jing Nan's expression turned from shock to anger.
She strode towards Jing Yuan and questioned, "You're saying this was Charles's deliberate arrangement?"
Jing Yuan nodded and said, "Don't be angry yet."
"How can I not be angry!"
Jing Yuan looked at Jing Nan's angry face; when she was angry, she looked even better.
Was this the charm of a high-class face?
These thoughts would pop into Jing Yuan's head from time to time. He quickly looked away and said, "The consecutive days of Breeding Missions felt a bit strange to me. Especially after learning some things from Jessica yesterday, I had some suspicions about the whole matter."
Jing Yuan stared at Jing Nan and asked, "Have you done something recently to offend Charles?"
Jing Nan was stunned and instinctively asked, "Why would you think that?"
Jing Yuan said slowly, "Arranging for you to go to the Hall of Dawn for three consecutive days shouldn't be to satisfy me, but to get you pregnant as soon as possible! Once you are pregnant, you won't be able to interfere in the power struggles of the Lighthouse's upper management for some time!"
The logic was simple; once Jing Yuan said it, Jing Nan understood everything.
"It was indeed my fault that you had to go to the Hall of Dawn. At that time, I named three people: Fan Lü, Vandy, and you! Originally, I wanted to use you all to make Charles give up voluntarily. But I didn't expect him to choose to sacrifice you!" Jing Yuan's tone was calm. He wasn't trying to sow discord this time; after all, it was hard to say if there was any affection between the siblings. Jing Yuan was just stating his true thoughts.
"I think that regardless of whether I made that request or not, he would have arranged for you to go to the Hall of Dawn when necessary to exclude you from the upper management using this method."
Jing Nan's emotions gradually calmed. Just as Jing Yuan said, even without him, there would have been someone else.
Using pregnancy to force a woman out of the power hierarchy was already one of the most merciful methods.
"If I'm not mistaken, they should continue to arrange for you to perform Breeding Missions. In two days, I'm going down to The Surface. Whether they'll arrange someone else for you, I can't say. I just wanted to tell you everything. If you don't care, then act as if you know nothing and silently accept their arrangements. As for me... tomorrow I'll go find Charles and tell him he doesn't need to arrange anything for me anymore."
Jing Yuan said this not because he didn't want to keep going to the Hall of Dawn.
Once they returned from the collection mission at the spaceship ruins and Morgan announced Mark as the successor to the City Lord, Charles would try everything to kill Mark.
At that time, if Charles wanted Jing Yuan to kill Mark, would Jing Yuan do it?
