15: Entrance examination

He slept until he woke up naturally.

After washing up, Lin Xiu saw that everyone else was still asleep, so he went out of the dorm alone to eat breakfast.

The plaza was bustling with people, many of whom had already started practicing Fighting Skills.

“It feels a bit like morning exercises at school.” After a brief stop, Lin Xiu bought breakfast and ate it as he walked.

Over at the teaching building, some classrooms were full of people, with instructors giving lectures.

In addition to Fighting Skill instruction, the Academy also offered content on Qi cultivation, Cultivation Techniques, general knowledge of Demonic Beasts, and common wild fruits.

After walking around, Lin Xiu noticed a large crowd ahead. He looked up, and a sign that read “Mission Hall” came into view.

“Junior, is this your first time at the Mission Hall?” A female student stood beside Lin Xiu.

“Hello, Senior. My name is Lin Xiu. May I ask what kind of missions are usually available here?” After introducing himself, he asked her.

“There are many missions, such as searching for medicinal herbs or hunting specific Demonic Beasts to obtain their magic cores.” Signaling Lin Xiu to follow, the female student walked into the main hall.

During this time, as they passed different areas, the female student would stop to explain things to Lin Xiu.

Inside the Mission Hall, there were dangerous missions and easy missions, with differences in the number of mission points obtained from each.

Mission points could be exchanged for various items, whether Cultivation Techniques, Fighting Skills, or Medicinal Pills needed for Cultivation.

“Why aren’t many people taking these missions?” Lin Xiu stood in front of a wall.

The area near this wall was very empty, with almost no one coming over.

“The rewards are too low.” The wall was filled with very mundane missions, such as fishing, feeding, and making food. The female student believed that only someone insane would invest their precious Cultivation time into these.

Following her, Lin Xiu walked around the Mission Hall. Many seniors were forming teams here; these people either knew each other well or had taken the same mission.

“Junior, did you bring your ID badge?” The female student stood in front of a counter.

Lin Xiu took out a token, which the female student took and handed to a person behind the counter.

After a while, he realized that assisting new students in the Mission Hall by providing them with relevant information also earned mission points.

After receiving the mission points, the female student returned the token to Lin Xiu and turned to leave.

“Good thing I’m not a narcissist.” Lin Xiu had always had a clear understanding of his own charm.

Leaving the Mission Hall, Lin Xiu returned to the dorm. By this time, Xiao Ning and the others had already woken up.

Lin Xiu challenged him to a fight.

For the first two days, Xiao Ning could still act tough, but by the third day, Xiao Ning simply stopped returning to the dorm.

He tried to find others in the dorm, but they all refused. Since Xiao Ning had been beaten away by Lin Xiu, they were even less of a match.

“I should have intentionally lost a few times before.”

...In the blink of an eye, the day of the entrance assessment arrived.

On this day, a large, spacious area was cleared in the Academy plaza, and all new students gathered together.

The vast crowd, with everyone talking at once, created a wave of sound that grew louder and louder.

“Do you have confidence?” Looking ahead, a voice suddenly came from behind Lin Xiu; Huo Lan had appeared beside him at some point.

“Yes.” Lin Xiu nodded lightly.

“It seems you are very confident. However, this is Canaan Academy, and even among those below the Fighter Realm, there are many exceptionally talented individuals.”

Huo Lan patted Lin Xiu’s shoulder and pointed his index finger in one direction.

Following his instruct, Lin Xiu saw a young man, who appeared to be about fifteen or sixteen years old.

“His name is Wu Hao. If you want to contend for first place, you must overcome him.” A hint of surprise flashed in Huo Lan’s eyes, as if he hadn’t expected him to be among this batch of new students.

“This guy will definitely join the Enforcement Team in the future. I heard that the Dou Qi on his body is a bit strange. If you encounter him, it’s best not to give him a second chance to attack.”

This young man named Wu Hao seemed quite troublesome. Huo Lan, despite wanting to test Lin Xiu, still revealed some of his opponent’s background to Lin Xiu before the competition.

Hearing Huo Lan’s words, Lin Xiu nodded without speaking.

A single name didn’t leave much of an impression, but when the Enforcement Team was mentioned, Lin Xiu immediately understood a bit more.

If he remembered correctly, this guy named Wu Hao would clash with Xiao Yan in the Inner Academy promotion assessment of the Outer Academy two years later.

Someone who could contend with the protagonist was definitely not comparable to small fry like Xiao Ning.

Huo Lan patted Lin Xiu’s shoulder again and walked towards the other teachers.

After Huo Lan left, Lin Xiu’s gaze shifted, and his brows couldn’t help but furrow.

Xiao Ning and Xiao Yu walked towards Lin Xiu.

“Lin Xiu, you live in the same dorm as my brother. He was beaten so badly by you, aren’t you being too excessive?” Xiao Yu gasped when she saw the injuries on Xiao Ning’s hands.

Facing Lin Xiu’s gaze, Xiao Ning somewhat dodged, not daring to meet his eyes.

“We were sparring. Xiao Ning himself has no objections to this, so you’re being a bit too nosy.” Lin Xiu knew that Xiao Yu cared deeply about her younger brother.

But he hadn’t expected Xiao Yu to come forward to stand up for Xiao Ning.

After all, he had held back before. If it weren’t for wanting to gain more experience, Xiao Ning’s arms would definitely be broken, not just bruised.

“Sparring? You were clearly retaliating! To tell you the truth, it was my idea to tell you to stay away from Xiao Mei. Xiao Ning was just relaying the message for me.”

Xiao Yu didn’t believe Lin Xiu’s words at all.

“Uh...” Lin Xiu noticed that others were paying attention and just wanted Xiao Yu to leave as soon as possible. “If you think so, then so be it. Your whole family is crazy.”

After speaking, Lin Xiu proactively walked to the other side of the team, just wanting to be far away from Xiao Yu.

Perhaps because Xiao Yan was the protagonist, both male and female members of the Xiao Family received relatively high attention.

In the Academy, Xiao Yu had many admirers, and Lin Xiu didn’t want to be troubled by those fanatical admirers due to groundless matters.

“Don’t be afraid. After today, he’ll be an Academy student. I’ll find an opportunity to teach him a lesson.”

Xiao Yu thought Lin Xiu was afraid of her and felt that she had successfully stood up for her brother. She stared at Lin Xiu for two seconds before leaving in the other direction.

Remaining in place, Xiao Ning noticed his other classmates looking at him and wished he could find a hole to crawl into.

He had been helpless after being beaten by Lin Xiu before, so he went to his sister, hoping to get some healing medicine. He hadn’t expected Xiao Yu to misunderstand, and no matter how he explained, it was useless.

Xiao Ning wanted to explain a few words to Lin Xiu, but Lin Xiu didn’t give him a chance to get close.

After the Vice Dean delivered his speech, the entrance assessment officially began.

Hearing his name, Lin Xiu jogged to the arena. His opponent was from a city in the Gama Empire, with a strength at the ninth stage of Dou Qi.

Facing an opponent whose strength was one small Realm lower than his, Lin Xiu knocked him out of the arena in two moves, easily winning.

For the next few opponents, Lin Xiu also didn’t encounter anyone too strong.

He had already raised Mountain Shatterer to Level 4, and its use was smooth and continuous.

He usually used his shoulder as the initial attack, and if an opponent couldn't block the first strike, they would be met with a storm of continuous hand and leg attacks, either being knocked out of the arena or losing the ability to fight back.

Because Lin Xiu dealt with his opponents too easily, he quickly attracted the attention of others in the battles below the Fighter Realm.
