33: Second-level Magic Beast
Canaan Academy, dormitories.
Lying on his bed, Xiao Ning wore a worried expression. This was the third day since Lin Xiu left the Academy, and also the third day he hadn't left his room.
Xiao Ning had requested leave to stay in the dorms, citing illness.
But in reality, he wasn’t sick; his body was perfectly fine. The reason he took leave was to hide.
This was because he had exchanged his services as a sparring partner for Lin Xiu to catch him a White Carp every two days. Each time he received one, he would deliver it to Xun'er.
It turned out the White Carp tasted quite good, and Xun'er really loved eating it.
This led to a situation where there were no White Carp, and Xiao Ning, worried about being urged by Xun'er, had to feign illness to escape.
After all, every time he delivered a fish before, he claimed he had caught it himself.
“Boss, there’s a girl looking for you downstairs, seems like your sister.” The door was pushed open, and several people walked in, one of them carrying a takeout meal.
Sister? Which sister? Could it be Xun'er?
Quickly getting dressed, Xiao Ning thanked the person who brought him food and hurried downstairs.
Not far away, under a tree, stood a young girl in a pale green dress. With her elegant and refined demeanor, who else could it be but Xun'er?
At this moment, Xun'er seemed to be in trouble; a young man in white stood before her, smiling and saying something.
Seeing this, Xiao Ning quickly ran over. As he got closer, he heard the man was trying to flirt.
“Hello, you look a bit unfamiliar. Are you a new junior student? My name is Bai Shan, I enrolled last year. What’s your name?”
The white-clad youth wore a charming smile on his face.
“Xun'er, I’m sorry to have kept you waiting.” Xiao Ning’s voice was loud. Facing Bai Shan’s gaze, his expression was blank. “Senior, if you have something to say, you can tell me directly.”
Outwardly calm and composed, Xiao Ning’s heart was already on high alert; this guy looked even more handsome than Xiao Yan!
“It’s nothing, let’s go.” Xun'er’s voice was melodious. After speaking, she turned and walked away. Xiao Ning gave Bai Shan a warning look, then followed.
Standing rooted to the spot, Bai Shan watched their retreating figures.
“Boss.” Several young men gathered around Bai Shan.
Bai Shan’s smile didn’t falter. “It seems many interesting students have joined the Academy again. Investigate that boy.”
“Yes, Boss. What about that girl?” someone asked.
“Don’t bother her! I’ll handle it myself,” Bai Shan said in a low, warning tone.
He had never seen such an elegant and beautiful girl in the Academy; it seemed he had met his destined wife.
Xiao Ning, who had walked further away, didn’t know he had been targeted. At this moment, he was sweating profusely, completely different from his calm and composed demeanor earlier.
“Cousin Xiao Ning, I hate liars the most. You should know that. You’d best not lie to me.” Xun'er’s lips held a faint smile, yet it put immense pressure on Xiao Ning.
“Xun'er, I…” Xiao Ning was interrupted by Xun'er as soon as he spoke. “Cousin, it’s Cousin Xun'er!”
The address “Xun'er” was not something everyone could use, Xun'er murmured to herself, and the image of a certain person involuntarily came to mind.
Brother Xiao Yan, how are you doing now?
“Cousin Xun'er, those White Carp really weren’t caught by me. Lin Xiu went out; once he returns, I’ll get the fish and send them to you.” Xiao Ning lowered his head.
“Thank you, Cousin.” Xun'er seemed to have come solely for the fish. After getting her answer, she walked away directly.
Standing alone, Xiao Ning clenched his fists tightly. “What exactly about Xiao Yan attracts you?!”
Someone patted his head. Xiao Ning’s inner anger immediately ignited. He spun around sharply. “Sister?”
“What are you doing standing there foolishly by yourself? I heard you were sick. Are you feeling better?” Xiao Yu showed a look of concern.
“I’m better.” Xiao Ning nodded, a bit bitter, but his heart was wounded.
“Let me ask you something. You live with Lin Xiu, do you know his strength?” Xiao Yu looked to the side, asking as if casually.
“Sister, why are you suddenly asking about him?” Xiao Ning asked somewhat anxiously.
“Of course, I want to help you teach him a lesson.” Xiao Yu stared into Xiao Ning’s eyes, speaking righteously.
“No, don’t go.” Xiao Ning quickly waved his hand, looking worried. “Sister, Lin Xiu is a pervert. He pulls me and our other roommate into sparring day and night. His strength is improving very quickly. If you go to him, you’ll definitely suffer.”
In terms of Cultivate attitude alone, Xiao Ning genuinely admired Lin Xiu. He knew very well how terrifying Lin Xiu’s combat ability was.
Even if he went all out, he probably couldn’t beat Lin Xiu, who would only use one hand.
Hearing Xiao Ning’s words, Xiao Yu froze. Lin Xiu’s strength improved quickly, and her brother had contributed to it?.
She had wanted to avenge Xiao Ning earlier, but she hadn’t expected to suffer such a great loss at Lin Xiu’s hands, and Xiao Ning had even played a part in it.
Thinking of this, Xiao Yu raised her hand again and slapped Xiao Ning on the back of the head, then walked away angrily.
She had come this time just to understand why Lin Xiu had become so strong after only a few days.
Now, she wished she hadn’t known.
“Why did you hit me again? I was clearly worried about you, Sister.” Xiao Ning felt extremely wronged. After being struck by both Xun'er and Xiao Yu, his heart felt as if it were on the verge of shattering… “Junior Lin Xiu, we are going to deal with a Water Tiger Beast next. It’s a Tier 2 Demonic Beast, so we won’t be able to look after you. You can wait for us here.”
At the edge of the hillside, Du Chaoping was giving Lin Xiu some instructions.
Below the slope was a river, its current gentle, with water plants growing along the banks.
Among the water plants, splashes of water could occasionally be seen, revealing an eye.
“Seniors, please be careful.” Lin Xiu nodded.
These days, they had covered a large area, and their route seemed to be based on Du Chaoping’s past experience, encountering almost no powerful Demonic Beasts.
Sometimes, when they encountered a Tier 1 Demonic Beast, they didn’t even give Lin Xiu a chance to act.
This overly protective approach made Lin Xiu a bit at a loss.
However, Lin Xiu didn’t deliberately cause trouble; he completed all four tasks along the way.
The Water Tiger Beast was not a tiger but a Demonic Beast that lived in water. Its body shape was closer to that of a hippopotamus, and it was known for its roar, which resembled a tiger’s growl.
Typically, Water Tiger Beasts lurked by the water’s edge. As Du Chaoping and the other two approached, the Water Tiger Beast, sensing movement, emerged from the water.
Nearly two meters tall, with a swollen body, large splashes of water fell from its gray skin. The surface of its skin had shallow patterns, glowing with a faint blue light.
Du Chaoping, holding a long spear, attacked first.
The attacked Water Tiger Beast stomped heavily on the ground. As the earth trembled, it charged forward.
Han Pu and Qin Zhi moved around to distract it. Their attacks landed on the Water Tiger Beast, creating many wounds.
“Look for an opportunity to attack its jaw.” Du Chaoping reminded the two. The Water Tiger Beast’s skin defense was very strong; there was a soft spot under its jaw, which was its only vital point.
Everything was going according to plan.
This was Lin Xiu’s second encounter with a Tier 2 Demonic Beast. The last time Xun'er dealt with a Tier 2 Demonic Beast, he hadn’t observed much, so today was a good chance to make up for it.
Du Chaoping was very good at distracting, irritating the Water Tiger Beast several times to expose its jaw. However, Han Pu and Qin Zhi’s attacks were always a little slow, causing them to frequently miss.
“The Water Tiger Beast is very strong. You must act quickly and without hesitation, otherwise you’ll be kicked by its front limbs.” Lin Xiu saw Han Pu find an opportunity and held his breath.
Han Pu’s weapon was a sword. Its tip, covered in Qi, stabbed directly towards the Water Tiger Beast’s pale skin.
“It’s over.” Du Chaoping saw this and let out a slight sigh of relief.
However, the next scene made his heart race again.
Han Pu’s sword did not pierce through; instead, it was as if it had struck a hard stone, the tip stopping at the Water Tiger Beast’s weak point.
“How could this be?” Han Pu himself was stunned for a moment.
