143: Chapter 141: Making MI6 and the citizens of London believe in the magician.

The streets of London at noon were exceptionally lively.

Tourists packed the sidewalks, and cars crowded the asphalt roads, leaving gaps between bumpers so narrow that even a single person couldn't pass through.

Toby, looking as if his house were on fire, pushed open his car door.

Ignoring the middle-finger insults from the driver behind him and the loud shouts of a traffic cop who had come over upon seeing the commotion, he sprinted down the sidewalk.

This slightly frantic behavior was all because of a whisper that had suddenly sounded in his ear not long ago while he was chatting with Ryan in the office.

"Coo coo—

Your letter has been delivered. Recipient—Toby Cardil, Address—XXXX."

Oh my God.

That Magician gentleman mailed me an interview letter!

As Toby ran, a heatwave like a volcanic eruption surged through his heart; naturally, this wasn't just from the physical exertion.

Running with all his might, he successfully made it back to his apartment building on the edge of the city center half an hour later.

"Good afternoon, Toby... what's wrong with him today?"

The elderly security guard, holding a cup of coffee, watched with a face full of confusion as the usually gentle and polite Toby rushed into the elevator with his clothes in disarray.

"Hurry up!" Toby pressed the button for his floor repeatedly, his face full of anxiety, fearing that if he got home too late, the interview letter would be returned because no one was there to sign for it.

This concern was clearly somewhat redundant.

When he stepped through the sliding elevator doors and rushed into his living room after unlocking the door, an Owl with pure black feathers was perched on the balcony windowsill, a letter held in its beak.

"Coo coo—"

Toby leaned on his knees, panting heavily. Once he caught his breath, he didn't approach immediately.

First, he straightened his suit jacket and tie, which had become messy from the run.

Then, with a solemn expression as if he were walking a bride down the aisle toward a priest, he walked up to the Owl and held out both hands.

"Coo coo—"

The beak opened slightly, and the white envelope drifted into his palms.

How should I address it?

He glanced at the Owl with curiosity while tearing open the letter.

The contents of the letter were very simple.

The upper half consisted of text sketched with lines he couldn't understand, while the bottom was the translated English.

After reading it, Toby was a bit disappointed.

This wasn't an interview letter, but a test notification to qualify for an interview.

He cheered up again in an instant.

One had to realize that including himself, only three people in all of London had received a test notification!

In fact, there were only three in the entire Ying Country.

Thinking of this, Toby suddenly realized: "In that case, Leon and Klaisi must have signed for this letter too!"

Maybe they've already finished the assessment, could I...

Remembering there was still an Owl in front of him, he hurriedly interrupted his musing and asked hesitantly, "Owl, Senior, can I..."

"Can candidates contact each other?"

The black-feathered Owl didn't respond with words or gestures; with a flap of its wings, it dropped from the windowsill onto his shoulder.

Turning his head slightly to look at the Owl perched on his shoulder, Toby speculated in confusion.

What does this mean? Forbidden or allowed?

Unable to guess the Senior's meaning after a long while, he ultimately didn't dare go out to find Leon and the other.

The two of them stayed together every day, but that might just be because they were already friends.

If he rashly went to find them and ended up being stripped of his admission eligibility, it would be a huge loss.

"Speaking of which..." Shifting his attention back to the Senior, Toby looked at the somewhat familiar scene before him and recalled Leon and Klaisi, who had been viral on the internet for a while a few days ago.

"An Owl... I don't mean you, Senior.

An Owl is on their shoulders almost all the time, so I..."

Toby slapped his hands together: "With Senior here, Ryan and the Director won't be able to doubt it this time!"

After saying that, he hurriedly turned and left home, rushing toward the MI6 office building on the outskirts.

As the elevator doors slowly closed, a whisper suddenly echoed in the empty hallway: "This guy didn't even close the door."

Using Mental Energy to close the door, Zhang Mu's gaze fell on his phone screen.

On it was a picture of two young men, each with an Owl perched on their shoulder—one snow-white, one mottled gray.

"It's been months and they still haven't figured out the exam content. These two idiots."

The program Zhang Mu had set for the Owls was to return to him once the assessment was complete.

Since the Owls were still with them, the exam clearly hadn't progressed.

He checked his phone; it was four in the afternoon, and he figured they'd be getting off work soon, so he'd go send them a hint.

Stepping downstairs, Zhang Mu strolled leisurely toward the outskirts.

Looking around at the pedestrians putting on jackets as the weather turned cold, he pondered what kind of move he should make to make MI6 and the citizens of London believe firmly in the existence of Magicians.

Suddenly, he remembered the scene when he first met Ryan and Toby.

A flying old car?

Hmm... his panel level was Beginner Magician, but he could actually reach Intermediate level. Still, using Mental Energy to lift a car and circle it high in the sky wouldn't last very long.

He'd just make a car-shaped puppet that could fly; that was much less trouble than brewing potions.

While he was at it, he'd also make the Kunpeng he planned to use after returning to his home country.

Tsk, the Kunpeng would be a massive project.

He'd deliver the hint first, then get busy with the puppets.

Smacking his lips, Zhang Mu quickened his pace.

...

In the evening, in an eighteenth-floor suite in an apartment building on the outskirts.

Leon and Klaisi were repeating the action they had done every day for months—sitting on the living room sofa, staring at each other.

"Leon, do you have any ideas?"

"I even tried the math papers I hate the most."

"Oh, then you really have been working hard."

"How about you?"

"Uh... I've been eating my favorite fried chicken wings for every meal, forcing myself to the point where I want to vomit just looking at them."

"It seems you're out of options too."

"That's right."

"Sigh—"

The two of them looked at the Owls perched on their shoulders, which were squinting their eyes, and sighed deeply.

The interview letter was right before them, the gates of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry had opened to them, and becoming a Magician was within reach.

But they were just one step away, a step they couldn't seem to take.

The torture of having a treasure right at hand yet being unable to touch it no matter what was making them miserable.

"Coo coo—"

The Owls suddenly spread their wings and took flight, flying out of the balcony window.

It happened so fast and so abruptly that for a moment, the two of them didn't react.

When he came to his senses, the slightly more impulsive Klaisi immediately jumped up: "Oh damn!

We were too stupid, Leon!

Our eligibility for the exam has been revoked!"

"Don't be nervous." Leon, while telling the other not to be nervous, swallowed hard himself and ran to the balcony, peering out at the sky.

The Owls were nowhere to be seen.

"Klaisi..." He walked back to the living room with his head hanging low, "Maybe it really is as you said... we don't have the luck to become... oh! They're back!"

The two Owls returned, each carrying a letter in its beak.

Landing on their shoulders, the two men hurriedly reached out to catch the drifting letters and tore them open.

On the pristine white paper, there were no mysterious and unfamiliar magical characters, only two sentences in English.

They unconsciously read aloud:

"Of all the Muggles I've ever seen, you two are certainly stupid enough!

Test Hint—Overcome."

As they read the first sentence, they both scratched their heads in embarrassment. But seeing the word "Hint," they immediately threw their shame far away.

"Overcome? Overcome what?"
