Chapter 87: Deep in Trouble BEEP!

The loud sound signifying the start of the battles was heard and the participants all shot to each other, Ruby’s opponent in specific not wasting any time at all, shooting towards her.

’This one too?’

Her eyes tracked the spiked bat that was about to crash into her face, whilst thinking about how similar the current situation was to when she faced Kieran.

Seconds away from getting her head smashed with the bat, she tilted her head backwards, narrowly avoiding the attack which left a small cut on her cheek.

"Huu!"

Her chest sank, a deep breath escaping from within as her hands flashed towards her side, drawing the two kusarigamas in an instant.

Skyler’s eyes flashed as she pressed on with her missed attack, changing the directory of her weapon — smashing down on Ruby who had just bent below to land a strike aimed at her guts.

With this, Ruby was forced to let go of her strike, using one of her weapons to block the strike whilst supporting herself with her other hand planted on the floor.

’A feint!’

Her mind screamed, feeling the weight behind the strike.

’Now!’

Skyler wasted no time, throwing her bat up, freeing her hands and dropping to the ground in a similar position to Ruby, her legs flashed forward to sweep Ruby’s arm — her only support on the ground.

’Slippery!’

She almost cursed, seeing Ruby pulling a last moment acrobatic movement. Pushing the whole weight her body off the ground with her arm.

Ruby who just dodged the attack in a unique fashion had just landed back in the same position, but this time, she pushed off her lower body sending a powerful kick to Skyler who was about to get ahold of her weapon.

BANG!

Her kick connected with Skyler’s neck sending her backward a few meters, further from her weapon that had just fallen to the ground.

’Flexible’

Kieran’s head tilted, reconstructing Ruby’s movement in his head.

He had seen her in a training suit before which exposed her extremely fit and light body, but she had never used any of these moves on him.

His eyes flashed ones again, seeing the gap between the both of them.

"That was nice, but you only got lucky"

Skyler’s voice broke the silence between the two of them, wiping the blood from the edge of her mouth.

Her eyes glanced at her weapon of the floor, not too far from where Ruby stood and Ruby caught that movement, moving immediately before the opponent could think of the next move to make.

She threw out one end of her kusarigama holding on to the other end and Kieran noticed that the two weapons were now linked to each other instead of the spiked balls he had seen previously.

’She changed weapons?’

He took a glance at the black scythe in his hands and shook his head after some thought, looking back at the holographic screen.

Just at that moment, the sharp, curved blade of the kusarigama was about to come in contact with Skyler who stood in place with no sign of moving.

CLANG!

The striking sound of two metals hitting each other was heard and not just Kieran, but Ruby’s eyes also constricted at the sight of her weapon stuck in the hand of Skyler’s which now had a silver shine of metal, all the way to her elbow.

"What is that?"

Kieran muttered his eyes tracing the traction of the two figures in the stage and he noticed Skyler’s other fist closed, clutching on to something, hard!

"Hmm!"

Ruby grunted trying to pull back her weapon from Skyler’s grasp.

That now felt impossible to do all of a sudden, it was like Skyler’s arm had not only taken the shine of metal, but it had become metal. Metal strong enough to resist being cut by Ruby’s weapon which was in no way dull, even as she pulled on it.

’Is that an ability’

The gears in Kieran’s head churned trying understand if that was an ability or some kind of gear.

Although it wasn’t common and was also looked down upon, there had been rare cases of people bringing along some tech gear to use in their fights.

The camp still considered them weapons, like the kusarigama Ruby was trying to pull back.

To make things fair, the camp set a cap on the type and level if tech that could be used. Kieran only knew the general stuff, he didn’t know much about the exact types which were allowed.

Even if it was an ability, he was having a hard time figuring it what it was among the huge amount of abilities out there.

Once again, Kieran saw this as an opportunity to get himself more exposed to the world of the awakened.

"This is a new one"

Back on the stage, Ruby muttered, letting go of the kusarigama on her end.

Instead, she rushed forward to Skyler who had a confident smile on her face. On the way, she kicked up the bat on the floor, grabbing it and spinning around to deliver a blow similar to the one she had faced at the begging of the match.

BANG!

Ruby, staggered to the back from the shock, barely suppressing the shake in her hands

Skyler whose head had only been tilted slightly by the attack, turned back to look at Ruby who still had the bat in hand. The sliver coating on her hands and now spread to her face.

"That’s your ability?"

A sneer escaped Ruby’s mouth and she suddenly switched to a more brutal attack style.

BANG! BANG! BANG!!

Loud sounds suppressing the other fights were heard as Ruby smashed the metal bat onto every part of Skyler she could hit, and even though the attacks did no visible harm to Skyler, she kept on hitting like she wanted to test the limit of her ability.

’Let’s see what breaks first. This bat or you’

Ruby made another full swing aimed at Skyler’s face, but this time, she caught it instead of ignoring it like she did till now.

Skyler eye lids were twitching furiously, several veins having popped up on her face.

"ENOUGH!"

Her deep voice rumbled through the air, and her rage filled eyes told everything she needed to know.

"Looks like I win!"

Ruby exclaimed with a small giggle. It was like she was having a fun time frustrating Skyler, she even had the time to place her head over her mouth and let out another giggle, in a coyish fashion.

"You goddamm b***h!!"

Skyler finally lost it as she threw Ruby’s weapon to the side in anger and ripped the bat out of her hand, breaking the spiked weapon into two and throwing it to the side.

Unfortunately, that was nowhere near enough to let out her anger. She might not have felt the pain, but it didn’t feel any better to be used as a punching bag.

Ruby, who had already rushed back the moment the bat was ripped out of her hands, rushed to her weapon, rolling to the side to avoid the bat that had just been thrown at her

BANG!

She stared at the side where a small crater had appeared due to the force of the throw and cold sweat appeared on her forehead.

’Yeah, she’s stronger than me’

Still she smiled playfully, running to meet Skyler head on.

"You know, just because you’re enhanced by matter absorption doesn’t mean anything!"

She said, her eyes flashing towards Skyler’s left fist which had been shut tight for a while.

Rolling the chain of her kusarigama in a cowboy like style, she slid on the floor wrapping the chains around Skyler’s left hand and pulling immediately, jumping onto Skyler’s back.

Kieran’s eyes flashed seeing how flexible Ruby was, to be able to pull off such explosive movement.

With Skyler’s left arm close to her, Ruby did something not even Skyler understood. She slapped her palm on Skyler’s closed fist and Skyler felt a cold sensation for a moment before her power suddenly became undone. Her body reverting back to normal.

When she turned to look at Ruby who had jumped off her back, she spotted her inspecting a piece of metal.

"So that’s what it is, hmm?"

"H-how did you do that?"

Skyler’s voice cracked in panic as he realized how deep in trouble she was.
