1: Chapter 1 I'm really tired

The piercing wail of an ambulance siren cut through the night sky. Mo Yufei lay on the stretcher, his consciousness drifting in and out.

He could feel the jolting of the stretcher and hear the hurried conversation of the medical staff, but it felt as if it were muffled by a thick layer of cotton; he couldn't hear anything clearly.

Gradually, the pain in his heart blurred, replaced by a bone-deep exhaustion. He wanted to sleep; he wanted to sleep so badly.

But the noise was too loud. It seemed as though his boss's hysterical roar was echoing in his ears. Mo Yufei could feel the malice; the voice was shrill and vicious.

Boss: "Damn it! If I had known, I would have fired him sooner! And now this—he had an accident at the company. He's half-dead, and if he actually dies, I'll have to pay him compensation! It's just bad luck!"

The nurse accompanying him instantly darkened, her hand tightening around the equipment. She couldn't help but rebuke in a low voice: "That's too much! What kind of boss is this? The employee worked himself to the bone, and instead of thinking about saving him when something happens, he only thinks about money!"

While taking Mo Yufei's blood pressure, the nurse sternly stopped him: "Sir, please be quiet! The patient is in critical condition and needs an absolutely quiet environment!"

The boss was instantly enraged, raising his voice even louder.

"Quiet? Why should I be quiet! This is a precursor to sudden cardiac death. If he actually dies on the operating table, how much money will I have to pay? I've been annoyed by how listless he looked every day for a long time; I should have fired him last week. It was just a little bit of work; how could it possibly tire someone to death!"

As Mo Yufei was wheeled into the operating room, he had no strength to retort. His chest felt stuffy, and his strength was fading. Suddenly, his brow furrowed, and his consciousness cleared just a fraction.

Memories kept flashing through his mind. At this moment, Mo Yufei realized, could this be the "final burst of clarity" the elders talked about? He felt so tired!

The crisp clatter of instruments, the sharp, piercing beeps of the monitor, and the hurried footsteps of doctors and nurses all blended together, wrapped in the heavy scent of disinfectant, crashing into Mo Yufei's calm, stagnant consciousness.

He lay on the cold operating table, his body long devoid of any strength. His chest rose and fell weakly; even breathing had become a burden. Yet, facing the encroaching death, he felt no fear, nor any pain. Instead, a sense of unprecedented relief welled up from the bottom of his heart.

Finally, he could get some proper rest.

This was the only clear thought in his chaotic consciousness.

Having lived for over twenty years, never had he longed for a deep, permanent sleep like he did now.

His parents had divorced years ago, each starting new families and new lives. He was like an extra burden, casually cast aside.

So-called family affection was nothing more than the salary that arrived on time every month, under the guise of "fearing you'll waste it" and "we'll give it to you when you need it." But when he truly needed it, they would make all sorts of excuses, and even a sincere greeting became a luxury.

After growing up, he plunged alone into the bustling city. With no background and no support, he could only work with all his might to make a living: endless overtime, the boss's boundless exploitation, and huddling in a cramped, dilapidated rental apartment. Day after day, he ground himself down, without even a moment to catch his breath.

He had thought his girlfriend of many years was a glimmer of light in the darkness, but in the end, he only received the words, "Can you not be so naive? We won't have a good ending," and was easily abandoned in a life filled with exhaustion.

With absent family, broken love, and work weighing him down, he was like a worn-out machine spinning endlessly, pushed forward by life. He had never lived for himself, and never rested for a single day.

Too tired, truly too tired.

"Patient's heart rate is dropping rapidly! Blood pressure is zero! Prepare for defibrillation!"

"Hurry! Increase the dosage!"

The doctor's anxious shouts, the roar of the instruments, and the slight tremor of electricity passing through his body all drifted further and further away from him.

The shadow of death slowly enveloped him. There was no icy chill, no heart-wrenching pain; instead, it felt like a soft bed, gently beckoning to him.

Mo Yufei just wanted to close his eyes like this, casting aside all the pressure, grievances, and indignities, and fall into a deep, permanent sleep. He would never have to face his cold family again, never have to work endless night shifts, and never have to live so exhaustingly again.

If only he could dissipate into nothingness; he never wanted to suffer the pain of this reincarnation again.

And just as his consciousness was about to sink completely into the darkness and embrace this relief, a blinding, blood-red virtual screen suddenly exploded before his eyes. A cold, mechanical voice resonated directly in his mind, carrying an irresistible, coercive force.

Mo Yufei's remaining consciousness remained calm, feeling only absurd and helpless.

This hallucination was exactly the same as the 3-out-of-10 mini-game interfaces he saw when scrolling on his phone.

He tried to wave his hand to disperse it, but he didn't even have the strength to move a finger, nor could he find the button to turn all of this off.

The countdown numbers leaped rapidly on the screen: 9, 8, 7...

He was too sleepy—so sleepy that even opening his eyes felt strenuous. He just wanted to rest.

Too lazy to think about whether this was real or fake, and too lazy to look at the options, Mo Yufei let the cold countdown sound echo in his mind.

[Host has not made a selection, randomized, beginning transmigration.]

The next second, the virtual screen dissolved into specks of light and vanished.

The world was finally quiet. Mo Yufei completely let go of all obsessions and fell into an endless sleep, finally getting his wish and welcoming the "rest" he had longed for.
