167: Chapter 167 Making Friends
High above the clouds, Mo Yufei spread his large wings, which shimmered with a white, flowing light, and paused at an altitude of ten thousand meters to let the wind blow past him.
He looked down at the island nation beneath his feet, his gaze devoid of any warmth. Countless people were dying below, yet he felt not a single ripple of emotion in his heart; there was not even a shred of pity.
This island was surrounded on all sides by the sea, and now, it had completely transformed into a living Hell.
A foul-smelling, black toxic mist followed the sea breeze, blanketing the entire land; there was no escaping it in any corner of the island.
All around was the sea; no matter where one looked, there was only seawater. There was simply no path for escape, effectively trapping everyone on the island to die.
The moment the poison touched the ground, the catastrophe unfolded instantly.
The first to suffer were the military camps stationed along the coast.
These soldiers, who spent years causing chaos abroad, inhaled the toxic mist without any precautions, and the anthrax virus bored directly into their flesh and lungs.
In just a few seconds, large black sores sprouted on their bodies. Their skin swelled rapidly, split open, and slowly began to rot, while warm blood mixed with shredded internal organs poured continuously from their mouths and noses.
The virus scorched their vocal cords; everyone wanted to scream but could not make a sound. They could only clutch their chests, collapse to the ground, and twitch incessantly, bloody breath bubbling from their mouths.
Large chunks of flesh fell off in sheets, exposing the bones beneath. Not a single scream could be heard from the camp anymore; the ground was covered in twisted corpses, and blood soaked the entire land.
The soldiers of the entire camp died in excruciating pain, not even getting a chance to flee.
The virus, refined and purified by the System, was even more ferocious.
The toxic mist continued to spread with the wind, quickly contaminating all the rivers, wells, and coastal seawater on the island; the cholera virus polluted every water source.
The farmers working the land, the fishermen, and people of all ages on the island relied on this water to live; anyone who touched the water source fell victim.
Whether it was an old person with graying hair or a newborn baby, not one was spared.
Those infected with the virus felt as if their stomachs were being ripped open; their intestines rotted through rapidly, their internal organs melted away bit by bit, and the pain made it impossible for them to stand straight.
Countless people collapsed by the roadside, in the fields, and at their doorsteps, vomiting black, bloody fluid incessantly. They excreted bits of rotting internal organs, their bodies withered until only a layer of skin remained. In just a few hours, their faces turned blue, their eyes bulged, and they were completely devoid of breath.
Many people used their last ounce of strength to crawl toward the coast, wanting to board a boat and leave this contaminated land, but looking out, they saw only endless deep sea in every direction.
The waves churned endlessly, the sea surface was boundless; there were no ships, no way out.
In front of them was land filled with viruses, and behind them was the sea, blocking all escape. No matter where they went, it was a dead end.
A fear of being unable to escape arose in everyone's heart. Trapped on an isolated island, watching the disaster descend—this despair was carved deep into their Souls.
Every household's door stood wide open, with corpses scattered everywhere inside.
A mother clutched her child tightly in her arms, the two of them rotting together.
A husband and wife supported each other while trying to flee, only to fall together on the steps before their home.
A child cried while searching for their loved ones, eventually curling up beside a corpse and breathing their last in pain and despair.
Streets, fields, coastal mudflats, and courtyards were littered with the dead. Blood flowed along the terrain, merging into black-red rivulets that spilled over stone slabs and dirt, the pungent stench of rot drifting everywhere.
After cholera claimed the majority of the population, the plague—which spread the fastest and caused people to lose their sanity—completely swept through all the towns on the island.
Black spots covered their bodies, lymph nodes swelled until they burst, and persistent high fevers burned them into a state of loss of control; those who remained alive were all driven mad.
Some lost their minds, tearing at and biting each other, causing the virus to spread even faster.
Some knew they couldn't survive and used knives to cut their own bodies, trying to force the toxins out, ultimately dying from a combination of blood loss and poisoning.
Others locked their doors and windows, hiding in attics, mountain caves, and underground air-raid shelters, barely holding on by relying on enclosed spaces. No matter how fierce the virus was, it would still leave a small portion of survivors; it couldn't wipe out everyone at once.
The cities were filled with the sounds of trampling, crying, cursing, and begging, but everyone knew in their hearts that the sea had sealed this island off completely.
There was nowhere to hide on land, and no way to escape across the sea. There was no path to the heavens and no gate to the earth; the entire island was a prison that had sealed everyone inside.
There was no miracle drug to cure the illness, no doctor to save lives, and no one would come from the outside to provide support. The virus continued to harvest lives, yet quite a few people still managed to survive by hiding in underground bunkers or mountain cave shelters.
The sun was largely obscured by the black toxic mist, and most areas of the island were silent. However, in underground shelters and deep mountain caves, a large group of people were still huddled in corners, clinging to life.
In Mo Yufei's mind, the System notification sound rang incessantly, one after another, without pause from start to finish.

Large swaths of red numbers filled his vision, the System notifications rang continuously, and the Fear Value on the screen skyrocketed.
The remaining survivors below cried and ran around in chaos, kneeling on the ground and kowtowing incessantly, huddling together in various shelters, shivering. Every shred of fear in their hearts was converted into values and stored in the System; the numbers rose without a moment's rest.
Mo Yufei gently flapped his wings and folded them, standing high above in the clouds. He watched quietly as the people below who had luckily survived and still had a breath left. His tone was light and airy, sounding like pity, but in reality, it was entirely feigned.
"How pathetic!"
His tone shifted, and the temperature instantly turned cold, devoid of any goodwill.
"Pitiful people always have their hateful aspects."
He reached out and tapped the System panel floating before him, a cold smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
"Why don't we all make friends? Today, everyone will become acquaintances."

[ Consuming massive amount of Fear Value, exchanging for 300 nuclear bombs. Exchange complete! ]
As soon as he finished speaking, three hundred nuclear bombs, gleaming with a ghastly white cold light, appeared out of thin air, suspended above the archipelago. Their targets were all aimed at the mountain refuge caves, underground air-raid shelters, coastal fortresses, and urban underground bunkers; not a single hiding spot was missed.
Their cold missile bodies reflected the dim light beneath the toxic mist, hanging heavily over the entire island.
Inside every nuclear bomb was hidden high heat and shockwaves capable of shattering mountains and vaporizing flesh and buildings alike.
When the virus was raging, people could at least find places to hide, leaving a sliver of hope for survival.
But once these three hundred nuclear bombs fell, there would never be any living thing left on this island.
The survivors on the island did not yet know that an apocalyptic disaster hung above their heads; they continued to shiver in their bunkers, relying on their last bits of strength to pray for life. They did not know that their final chance at survival was about to be completely crushed.
The Fear Value kept rising, and Mo Yufei kept exchanging; naturally, the more nuclear bombs, the better, so that everyone could become 'acquainted' together.
