138: Chapter 138 Barrier Isolation from Another World
"We are not stopping you from entering."
One of the Men in Black withdrew his arm, his tone flat and mechanical, as if he were reciting a pre-set rule,
"But before you enter, you need to undergo isolation processing."
"We will take you in."
"Otherwise, you will contaminate the environment within the sub-space."
When Sawyer heard this, the muscles in his face twitched noticeably, his brows knitted together and then immediately relaxed, as he forcibly swallowed the question he had been about to ask.
He licked his lips, deliberated for a moment, and tried to lower his posture as much as possible, yet he still could not suppress the frustration in his heart:
"Honorable members of the Longevity Faction, this is really a bit..."
"How does being isolated outside and you taking us in... how do those two things connect?"
The other Man in Black did not answer him, simply raising his gloved right hand and making a casual gesture towards the sky.
An arc-shaped transparent force field descended silently from above the courtyard.
It looked like a giant inverted glass bowl, its surface slightly refracting faint rings of light as it descended,
It completely enveloped Biden, Harris, Sawyer, Chief of Staff Madeleine Rasmussen, Graves, Mark Milley, as well as the entire group of accompanying White House senior officials and Secret Service bodyguards.
Without any swaying or mechanical noise, once it had seamlessly fitted against the ground,
the entire transparent force field, carrying everyone inside, slowly rose into the air, as steady as if they were standing on a concrete load-bearing slab several feet thick.
The Man in Black lowered his hand to his side, his tone identical to when he had just stated the isolation requirements.
"Next, this 'Cheng Yu Barrier' will take you into the world of the Deep State."
"You can only tour it through this."
"If there is anyone important who has been left behind before departure, it is still in time to notify them to come over now."
Biden stood in the center of the transparent barrier, looking down at the stone courtyard slowly receding beneath his feet, and the outlines of the manor buildings growing smaller and smaller, then he raised his head and said a very short word to the White House staff beside him.
Chief of Staff Madeleine Rasmussen and Sawyer quickly took out their phones and dialed the numbers of the two liaison officers still stationed on the outskirts of the manor.
A few minutes later,
several bulletproof Cadillacs quickly turned around on the desert road and rushed back to Casablanca Manor at top speed.
Dr. Edwin Hartford, President of the National Academy of Sciences; Dr. Margaret Vaughan, Director of DARPA; Dr. Chamberlain, Director of the Department of Energy Office of Science; Gillian Frost, Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, and her deputy,
all escorted by two Secret Service agents, hurried across the stone courtyard to the front of the sub-space gate.
But Biden and the others were already inside the Cheng Yu Barrier, having risen more than ten feet above the courtyard, and were looking down at the group of panting scientists beneath their feet,
The transparent floor of the barrier allowed them to see each other clearly, but they could not make direct contact.
Sawyer's attitude had now become extremely polite; he turned to the two Men in Black standing with their hands behind their backs inside the barrier and bowed slightly,
asking the two Longevity Faction members in a tone even more careful than any formal diplomatic occasion in Washington:
"Our people are still down there..."
The Man in Black standing on the left side of the barrier looked down at the group of scientists, and tapped his right foot lightly.
The entire giant Cheng Yu Barrier descended vertically at an extremely fast speed,
The moment the smooth transparent cover touched the heads of Hartford and the others, ripples like water appeared,
and then it silently swallowed them all up,
With a dull sound of contraction, it pulled up again from above the stone courtyard.
This time without pausing, the barrier rose to the sub-space gate and rushed into the dark blue halo at high speed.
An amber sky spread out above everyone's heads.
It was no longer a long slit viewed from afar through that narrow space opening,
but an entire boundless, empty dome, with soft pale golden light evenly filling everyone's field of vision from all directions.
The base of the floating city slowly glided by underneath; the massive energy cores embedded in the bottom of the base, viewed from close up, were each the size of a detached villa, with cold white light patterns circulating on their shells at an extremely slow speed.
Floating tracks crossed over both sides of the barrier, and streamlined aircraft glided silently past at a distance of less than a few dozen feet from the barrier.
In the distance, several giant ships were still docked on the tracks, their hulls occasionally grazed by a very faint cold light,
Viewed from outside the gate, they were just decorative outlines in the distant view,
but upon flying closer, one could see that the volume of each of those giant ships was equivalent to the entire Pentagon.
Hartford took off his glasses and bit them in his mouth, repeatedly wiping the lenses with his cuff; after wiping, he put them on, then took them off and wiped them again.
Margaret Vaughan's lips kept moving, as if she were silently reading a set of data only she could see.
Chamberlain pressed his hands against the transparent wall of the barrier and whispered to Gillian Frost:
"This is not something we can reverse engineer."
"Everything in here does not belong to the laws of physics of our universe."
Gillian Frost did not answer him, just gripping the encrypted tablet in her hand tighter and tighter,
On the screen, the line of sensor data still recording automatically was detecting abnormal fluctuations in the curvature of space-time outside the barrier with an unsettling trend.
None of the surrounding White House senior officials spoke.
Everyone was pressed into thin silhouettes amidst the complete and infinite vastness of that floating city.
Weak breaths condensed into thin mist, reflecting on the transparent wall, only to be submerged time and again by the amber skylight.
...
Los Angeles, Hollywood Hills, detached villa.
Zhang Yi leaned back on the sofa, the system interface in front of him playing real-time footage from inside the sub-space, the corners of his mouth curling into an arc.
The towering buildings in the floating city, the glowing energy cores beneath the bases, and the streamlined aircraft silently shuttling on the floating tracks were all forged with holographic projections and textures,
They looked more real than reality, but felt like nothing but air when touched.
Of course, he couldn't let Biden and his gang know about this.
That was why he specifically bought that [Cheng Yu Barrier] from the system store:
Twenty thousand emotion points, featuring built-in lifting and hovering functions, with no offensive or defensive capabilities,
Its only function was to make the holographic projections outside appear increasingly realistic to those inside the barrier, exactly the same as the real thing.
Where the Cheng Yu Barrier flew and how it flew was all manually controlled by him from behind the scenes; this was the key guarantee to avoid being seen through.
For his current layout, this transparent cover was simply a godsend.
